Friday week 4 is the colour run. Please bring a white shirt if you would like it screen printed with a Forbes North colour run logo on it. This will cost $3.00 and will need to be given to your class teacher. The child that raises the most money from each stage will receive a prize so don’t forget to fill out your sponsorship form. We are all looking forward to the 2018 colour run and funds raised will go to the Year 6 farewell.

Year 2 Transition to year 3 Moving from Year 2 to Year 3 is a big change for our students. Beginning tomorrow, each Wednesday afternoon from 2-3pm all Year 2 students will be participating in a transition program. Students will be exposed to the senior playground and facilities including the 3/4 classrooms. They will have multiple opportunities to complete a variety of fun activities in the current 3/4 classrooms with the current Year 3 students. This will provide the Year 2 students with a number of familiar faces they can play with next year. The program will run for 7 weeks. We are looking forward to beginning this transition program and welcoming the Year 2s to the senior end of the school. Mr Doyle and Stage 2 Teachers From the Principal….. Schools are dynamic places with planning, teaching, assessing and evaluating constantly taking place. Forbes North is no different, and planning for 2019 is currently underway. Our transition program for year 6 students entering year 7 has been running in conjunction with Forbes High School since early in term 3, and our transition for year 2 students entering year 3 commenced last week.

Of course our Link-Up to School program has been running all year and our more intensive transition to the Kindergarten classrooms will commence in week 5, with the parent information/kinder expo taking place in the school hall from 9:15 on Tuesday November 13th. We invite all parents of prospective 2019 kindergarten students to attend!

Have a great week! Steve McAlister Principal Parents of students currently in Year 5 are advised that applications for enrolment in Selective High Schools for Year 7 in 2020 are now open. Applications must be submitted on line. If you are unable to access the internet from home Forbes North PS is able to provide access for the application process. The application process can be accessed at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7/application-process.

For parents or carers of children in ethics classes Primary Ethics is the organisation that runs ethics classes at our school. Their latest newsletter covers some of the topics students are currently discussing in ethics classes. Read about it here: https://mailchi.mp/primaryethics/ethicshome-october2018

3/4K would like to thank their parents and caregivers for taking the time to visit the school on Friday to watch their child perform. The class were very nervous and they set their own standard for their performance. 3/4K really do appreciate all parents/carers who came and who dropped in clothing items before the assembly. The class really wanted to send a message out to the whole school assembly and they have the belief that it has worked.

RH Lytton Interschool Orators Competition

Forbes North, Forbes Public and St Laurence's will be competing against each other for the RH Lytton Trophy. The competition is determined by students' public speaking and debating against each other. Schools are awarded points for places and the school with the highest points wins the trophy.

Last Thursday, the debating team competed against Forbes Public in the first round of the RH Lytton debating part of the competition. The topic was "Australia should close all zoos." We were the negative team. We were successfully able to convince the adjudicators that zoos in Australia should not close. We will now debate St Laurence's in Week 5 to determine the debating winner.

Term 4 Performance 20th November 2018 Week 6

THE PERFORMANCE Rubbish is an innovative performance about the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Conway gets the message across with a circus of comedy, magic and mayhem. He puts the fun into Recycling with all kinds of junk musical instruments. Mic Reuses the garbage out of the bin to make magic and Reduces his audience to tears of laughter with his songs and serious silliness! Musical garbage bins and rubbish, junk costumes, light juggling, magic with water bottles and cans, ripping newspapers, a cranky little boy puppet and loads of audience participation make for a load of rubbish! – entertaining and educational rubbish. Mic has worked with and has the support of SCRAP (School Communities Recycle All Paper).

In our Garden…… It has been a busy time in the garden this term. The potatoes planted by 3/ 4K last term are being dug up for this week’s Australian themed kitchen recipes. Mulberries are being picked and enjoyed by lots of classes as they finish fitness each day. Miss Girot has been conducting garden biology lessons discovering the properties of soil and conducting soil experiments. The Forbes Community Garden Club are having a Scarecrow competition on the 10th November. Most of our classes are in the process of making class scarecrows. Once the scarecrows have been judged at the community garden they can come back and be set to work in our school garden. We have also entered our vegetable garden in the community garden section of the Forbes Community Garden competition, so we are keeping things tidy!! A lso, Forbes Rotary Club kindly donated money for our school to purchase enough fruit fly netting to cover all of our fruit trees and our raided garden beds. What a bonus this will be in the new year, our fruit and tomatoes will be fruit fly free!!
