HENRY AND ALICE: INTO THE WILD

    by

    Dean Nerdahl

On October 1st, 30 retirees attended the showing of Henry and Alice: Into the Wild at the Park Square Theatre. The play was about a couple who thought a camping trip would be the magic bullet to reignite their 26 year marriage. Sorry, but I didn’t get the feeling that their relationship was improved by the camping trip. The acting was good and there were some funny lines but I was not impressed with this play.

    ALADDIN

    by

    By Linda Hauck

Aladdin was truly an eye-candy spectacle. The glittery costumes, lavish settings and spirit-ed choreography made for one of the best shows I've seen. The Genie was the star of the show, so energetic and fun.

The big showstopper was when a flying carpet carries Aladdin and his lover, Jasmine, aloft

in a night-time ride, swooping and spinning in a starlit night to ”A Whole New World,”.

How’d-they-do-that? Aladdin and Jasmine are married, and all ends well when they board

the magic carpet and take flight, and Genie prepares for a long-awaited vacation. Twenty-

four retirees got to go along on this amazing ride.

This month I thought I would give you some tips on securing your smartphone. If you haven’t done this al-ready, now might be the time to do it. So here are some tips for you:

Set a PIN or password Apple gadgets make you set up a passcode for the lock screen the first time you use them. However, if you created it a while ago, it might be time to beef it up. Go to Settings>>Passcode to edit your passcode.

For Android, go to Settings>>Lock screen to set up a pattern, PIN or password. You can try out all three and see which one offers the best balance of security and convenience for you.

For Windows phones, go to the Start screen and tap Settings>>Lock screen to set up your passcode.

Important: In the lock screen area, be sure you set your gadget to lock automatically after a few minutes of inactivity. If you have it set to an hour and a thief or snooper swipes it, they'll have plenty of time to poke through your information or install a spy app.

Only install trusted apps You can lower the risk by only installing apps from the major app stores: Google Play, Amazon Appstore, Ap-ple iTunes and Microsoft's Windows Store.

Enable remote location and wiping If your gadget is lost or stolen, tracking apps can tell you exactly where your phone is. These apps also let you wipe sensitive information remotely. If your phone does end up in the wrong hands, you can at least make sure somebody else doesn't get your information.

iOS users have Find My iPhone. To enable it, go to Settings >> iCloud. Look for Find My iPhone and turn it on.

Android users have Android Device Manager. To enable tracking, launch the app, link it to a Google account and follow the directions.

For Windows phones, there's the Find My Phone feature. To set it up, go to Settings >> Find My Phone. Make sure the slider is set to on.

Remarks by Guy Moore at the Fall Luncheon

I am here to recognize the immeasurable contributions Chuck Woldum has made to our club.

Our club has been in existence for 38 years (1979) and Chuck has been a club member for almost 30 years - longer than most of us worked for the company.

The club was only 10 years old when Chuck started providing Tax Aid Assistance to our members. Chuck had his first board position in 1994 and has been a part of managing the club since. In the late 90s Chuck became the club’s Executive Director (later Managing Di-rector).

Now I know most of you don’t know what that means but believe me when I tell you it is a demanding job. There is the part that you see in managing the activities and seminars, and then the part behind the scenes. It is that behind the scene part that I want to recognize.

Those duties include getting volunteers to fill the board positions, assuring continuity and consistence in managing the club, aiding and advising the club’s board in conducting its business. Chuck has been very instrumental in getting the foundation board representation to include equal parts retirees. Half the board members of the foundation are retirees and the president alternates between the club and Ceridian.

In 2013 he recognized that father time is marching on and we needed a succession plan in place to replace him in order to keep the consistency moving forward. He located and hired his replacement and set a plan in place to train her. That training and replacement is set to finish at the end of this year, so he can leave knowing the legacy will remain.

So after almost 30 years Chuck can be just a retiree. Not—he will still be around on the foundation board and available to you and the board to assist and advise. Thank you Chuck for all you have done for us. We would not be recognized as one of the best retirement clubs in the area if not for your contributions.

    Sylvia and Chuck Woldum
