Guide for jobseekers on JOB2SEA
Like all systems, you can increase your output and effectiveness of JOB2SEA by knowing how the system
works. With this guide, we aim to help you to maximize the effect of the job board and increase your
chances to get not only a job, but the job that you look for. We also guide you so recruitment companies
can find you in the database and we will teach you how to create a C.V. with all relevant information
included.
How to use JOB2SEA: We have deliberately made it very easy to access JOB2SEA, you don´t have to register first and you can
even apply for a position without having any information registered in the system. It is however
recommended to minimum register with an email and name, in that way you get a login to your own
personal dashboard where you will be able to store jobs, register for email alerts and keep a central record
of your applications.
To get full benefit of the system, we strongly recommend that you complete your profile by answering all
questions and tick off relevant boxes. In that way, your profile can be found by recruiting companies.
In order to be able to apply from any computer or your smart phone at any time anywhere in the world, we
also strongly recommend that you upload an updated CV. You can even upload a “scraped” CV stripped
from sensitive information and you can make this visible for recruiters.
This is an issue where some get confused so we will describe this in details:
When you register the first time, you will meet to options:
1. Create jobs by email
2. Create your profile
Below this, you find an option marked with blue writing “Proceed to your account” and when you click this
you will see following:
Here you have following options:
The top blue box is your account dash board.
Here, you can edit your name, edit your email address, change your password and edit your preferences
regarding emails etc.
Just below the blue box, you can delete your account. Be careful, this process is irreversible. You will have
to type in your password to delete your account. Please note that you can de-activate your account and
make it invisible for all instead of deleting your account. In this way, you can just re-activate if your need it
later.
Below you find following options marked with green buttons:
1. Complete your profile (changing to “edit your profile” if you have already added information)
2. Edit your stored CV
3. Your jobs by email
4. Your job applications
5. Your shortlist
Complete your profile
This is the section where you can update details about your profile. When you click this, you will see
following:
Career summary:
Here you write in short about your profile – it doesn´t have to be long, but more important, it should be
personal and obviously in English.
First section is about your current CV where you will see a list of multiple options tick off boxes. This section
is about your experience and you should be very accurate and only tick boxes of that match your
qualifications.
Your current CV
• What sectors do you have experience working in?
• What STCW qualifications do you have? (not mandatory )

Next questions is related to your new role:
Your new role

• Are you eligible to work in Europe?
• Are you eligible to work in Norway?
• Are you eligible to work in U.S.A.?

Above information is extremely important to complete due to these reasons:
• We can send you special job target emails with jobs that match your profile on above parameters
• We can find you and get in contact with you if companies have jobs matching your qualifications
• We can send information out that is relevant for your profile
• Recruiting companies can find you
Remember to save by clicking the green button
Congratulations you have now finished the updating of info on your profile – now you will need only one
thing to complete it – uploading your CV.
This CV is the one that you can choose to make visible for recruiters and JOB2SEA – so make sure that no
sensitive information is included in case that you are still in job, strip off name, contact details, company
names etc.
Upload the CV.
Find a guide to create a great CV later on in this manual.
When uploading you will automatically be directed to the main tab “Your profile”
Her you will see this:
In the top you have 6 tabs:
1. Overview
2. Edit profile
3. Attach new CV
4. Manage visibility
5. Exclude employers
6. Delete profile
Overview
This section starts with information about your visibility. This is deliberately, since it is a very important
issue. Managing your confidentiality is of high importance to us – but at the same time profiles who want
to be visible and profiles that have created a “scraped” CV should have the option of being found by
recruiters. Always check this and make sure you have a full understanding of how this works. You can easily
double check your CV by clicking the blue link in the right of the text “Current CV file”.
Otherwise, this section is just a quick overview of your profile.
Edit profile
Use this tab when you want to make chances to your profile
Attach new CV
Here you can replace the CV connected to your profile – the one that can be made visible for recruiters.
Manage visibility
Here you can chose if recruiters can see you or not
Exclude employers
This section is for exclusion of employers in our database. If you want to exclude an employer that is not
yet present in our database, drop us an email at [email protected] and we add the company.
Delete Profile
As previously described, here you can easily delete your profile
If you have completed above steps your profile is now completed.
CV for your applications
In order to apply from any computer or from your smart phone, we have created the possibility of
uploading a second CV – this CV should include all – including sensitive – information. This CV will ONLY be
used for your applications.
Click in the main tab on “Your account”
Click the green button “Add your CV”
You can choose to use the same or you can upload a full CV – we strongly recommend that you use
different CV´s since they serve different purposes.
Job by emails
Next button in your account is “Jobs by email” – in other job boards called and email alert. You can click this
and tick off your criteria’s, but we actually recommend that you use the system slightly different here. Since
a relatively large percentage of our jobs is imported automatically, not all criteria’s are being attached to
every job. That means, that if you e.g. tick of tanker in ship type, and then we import a job on a tanker, it
may not be fully categorized and you will not receive an alert. Many companies recruit on a running basis,
meaning that it is important that you send your application as soon the job is uploaded. We recommend
that you instead of creating job by emails this way, you click “find a job” in the main menu.
You will then see this:
In the left side you can browse on all jobs on the site.
Alternatively, you can click the top tab “search” and you will see this:
This section is very important if you want to get full effect of your email alert
You will see a list of parameters in the left side:
• Keywords
• Sector
• Ship Type
• Location
• Contract type
• Hours
• Language
• Contract type
Keywords is a google like search field – you can try to search with this field.
For above mentioned reasons, we recommend that you don´t use the parameter “shiptype” until further
notice – you may risk that you will not get emails on relevant jobs.
We recommend that you try various parameters, and the check the results.
When you are satisfied with the output, you click
Back in your account you will see these buttons next:
Your Job applications
If you click this, you will get a complete overview of the jobs that you have send applications to.
Your shortlist
By clicking this, you can see all jobs that you have short listed. When browsing the site, you can short list a
job you find interesting by clicking on the text in the right site:
Guide to create a great CV
Many people contact JOB2SEA to see if they can get a good template for the CV. We don’t send one out
because we don’t want all applicants on JOB2SEA to use the same template. You can easily create one or
download one on internet. What we focus on is some few very important points that you should note:
• You CV should never be longer than max. 4 pages
• Reply in same language as the job advertisement
• Make sure you have a passport size picture included in top right corner, this picture should be
official, in shirt or uniform
• Make sure you have no spelling or typing errors
• Always convert to a PDF – word shows differently on various computers, PDF will ensure that the
receiver see it same way as job seeker, and it is much more professional
• Make it look good – get help if you don´t feel confident with this
• Make sure that your master data is always included:
o Age
o Address
o Mobile
o Email
o Full name
o Nationality
o Languages
• Chronological review: Make sure it is not too long, if you have several positions in same company,
you can put them together to shorten the CV.
• Make everything in English
JOB2SEA have experienced several times that profiles get rejected due to bad CV´s missing information or
being too long.
This is the background for us to offer jobseekers review and optimizing of CV including spell checking and
inputs for improvements.
This service is offered to job seekers world-wide for 75 EURO and it may be a very good investment that
should be considered.
If relevant for you, please forward your CV to [email protected]
If you follow above advice we can ensure you that you will get maximum benefit out of being on JOB2SEA.
