Heerema Group

The Heerema Group designs, fabricates, transports, installs and removes offshore facilities for the exploitation of oil and gas at sea. We serve the oil and gas industry in the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, West Africa, South East Asia and Australia.

The Group consists of two divisions: Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) and Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG). Operating independently, they provide clients with facilities to operate safely at greater water depths and in harsher environments. They cooperate when joining forces is expected to contribute to the success of a client’s project.

The Heerema Group believes in building long-term relations with its clients and suppliers. For more than 60 years we have been investing in our people, equipment and expertise in order to become and stay a robust and responsible partner for our clients.

Pioneers

Heerema has pioneered – and is pioneering – much of what eventually has become – or will become – common practice in the oil and gas industry.

In the 1950s, when we constructed and installed platforms in Latin America and the Caribbean, we developed a modern way to fabricate pre-stressed concrete piles. In the 1960s we supported the emergence of the North Sea’s oil and gas industry by introducing monohull crane vessels. They increased lift capacity from 700 to 3,000 mT, which allowed for the more cost-efficient construction of larger platforms.

The 1970s we revolutionized the industry with the launch of the world's first two semi-submersible crane vessels, Balder and Hermod. These allowed the industry to install heavier platforms in less time, even in severe weather conditions.

In the 1980s, Heerema started fabricating modules and jackets for North Sea oil and gas companies, and started acquiring yards across Europe.

These activities marked the beginning of the Heerema Fabrication Group. In the 1990s the Thialf was acquired, the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel.

In recent years we have shown steady growth. HFG now has its in-house engineering capability, allowing it to offer clients fabrication-driven engineering and design services. In-house design and fabrication of large and complex jackets, the fabrication of large topsides for the oil and gas industry as well as for the offshore wind energy resulted in HFG obtaining a unique position in western Europe.

With world record float-overs of topsides by HMC, the introduction of a deepwater construction vessel with a unique combination of capabilities and an increasing involvement in installing complex deepwater infrastructure, HMC has significantly added to its existing platform transportation and installation activities.

Today, we are a healthy company with a strong reputation, excellent client relationships and dedicated workforce.

Our vision

Although always volatile, we believe that the oil and gas industry is bound to grow for decades to come. More hostile offshore areas are being explored and we see our clients extract oil and gas from water depths exceeding 3,000 meters, thus increasing technological and logistical complexities. It is also evident that national oil companies will play a more prominent role in the industry, which will have an impact on the way we have to conduct our business.

Heerema Fabrication Group

HFG serves clients in energy-related industries with a focus on oil and gas.

Oil & Gas industryHFG specializes in the engineering and fabrication of large and complex structures, mainly for the offshore oil and gas industry. HFG offers a comprehensive range of services, including concept design, front-end engineering, detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

More than 80% of the platforms on the Dutch Continental Shelf have been fabricated by HFG. The hundreds of offshore structures built by HFG include bridges, jackets, modules and totally integrated decks for many leading oil and gas companies. It has also delivered onshore modules for refineries, (petro)chemical plants and power stations.

HFG is known for its fabrication-driven engineering and practical designs. These reduce safety risks, lower costs and make the production schedule more robust. HFG’s resources and capabilities allow it to support a wide range of contracting strategies.

Offshore wind energy market HFG is putting its experience in the oil and gas industry to use in the offshore wind energy market. HFG has completed offshore substations and HVDC converter platform projects for the largest wind farm developments in the North Sea.

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) offers a wide range of engineering and fabrication services to the oil and gas and other energy related industries, including design, procurement, project management, fabrication, installation, hook-up and commissioning of onshore and offshore installations.

HFG aims to serve its clients with innovative, cost-effective and high-quality engineering and fabrication solutions, with strong EPC(I) management capabilities. HFG is widely recognized for managing its state-of-the-art fabrication-driven engineering and integrated project management services, which are, next to HFG’s flexibility during project phase, fundamental for a project’s success.

Fabrication locationsHFG has fabrication locations in the Netherlands (Zwijndrecht and Vlissingen), the United Kingdom (Hartlepool) and in Poland (Opole). All locations have large, covered, modern halls for prefabrication, assembly and other services. Its indoor fabrication halls are among Europe’s largest and are equipped to handle several large projects simultaneously.

Heerema Marine Contractors

HMC marks more than five decades of pioneering with many industry firsts. A reliable partner with a solid reputation for solving seemingly impossible challenges.

Subsea infrastructure, risers and pipelinesHMC designs, procures, constructs, installs and tests infrastructure for field developments in water depths of up to 3,000 meters. This includes mooring lines, infield flowlines, inline structures, risers, subsea structures and export pipelines. HMC aims to assist its clients in pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible and in developing smarter solutions.

Fixed and floating facilitiesHMC has gained extensive expertise in installing a wide range of platforms at sea. It can lift virtually any offshore structure in a safe, fast and cost-effective manner. Its dual-crane vessels can install integrated topsides and their semi-submersible hulls reduce weather downtime. HMC’s multitasking crane vessels have proven their ability to effectively install fixed and floating facilities in shallow, deep and ultra-deep water: Conventional Platforms, Compliant Towers, TLPs, Spars, Semis and FPSOs.

Float-over installationsFloat-overs can be performed by HMC’s unique barges and the use of a wide range of ancillary equipment and docking systems. HMC’s methods enable topside installations beyond its available crane vessel capacity and are an attractive alternative for remote geographical areas. HMC has gained an impressive track record of such installations. Offshore decommissioning and removing platformsHMC has built a track record in removing platforms in a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective way. The services include engineering, offshore preparation, removal and onshore disposal/recycling of redundant facilities. HMC generally cooperates with other contractors to develop and apply special subsea cutting equipment and other techniques to ensure diverless removal of substructures.
