The main theme of the seminar was terrorism and caste divisions. The Chief Guest for the seminar was Mr. Ashok Kumar, Additional Director General of Uttarakhand Police - Law & Order and Prosecution and Shri Devi Maîtreyi Anand - Head of Brahmanand Shakti Sadhna Kunj. As chief guest ADG, Ashok Kumar gave his speech on the topic of Terror Funding’. He elaborated how India can achieve a solution to the Kashmir problem. The quoted the example of how administration successfully resolved terrorism activities in Punjab. Similarly, a prosperous future can be brought about through the Himgiri Voice - A Monthly e-Newspaper of School of Media, Journalism & Film Making, Himgiri Zee University, Dehradun Zee Varsity Organized International Inter-Disciplinary Seminar adequate planning, better communication network, administrative will and local support. On being asked, he elaborated how match-fixing results in an indirect source of terror funding and how that profits organized crime based in Middle Eastern countries. He also gave few beneficial tips to the students and research scholars on prevention of terrorist activities. In this international inter-disciplinary seminar, total 60 research papers on topics ranging from nationalism, sociology, folk culture, epics and similar other themes were presented. On the occasion Chief Finance Officer Mr. Anterdeep Singh, Senior Administrative Officer Mr. Vishnu Mathur, Heads of various departments, faculty members and students were present. Considering the importance of Yoga and Wellness in modern lifestyles, Himgiri Zee University is starting vocational courses in Yoga and Wellness from the new academic session. Yoga is not any longer some austere postures practiced by ascetics high up in the Himalayas to achieve spiritual liberation. It stands for both physical and mental well-being. It is becoming the demand of modernity to inculcate these time-honoured teachings, customs, practices and values in the contemporary society. University organized Yoga sessions for the staff, their families and students in the morning (6:30 am to 7:30 am) and evening (6:00 pm to 7:00 pm) in the seminar hall in the month of May. Yoga workshops are also being conducted for outsiders, every weekend (Saturday and Sunday), from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. These Yoga sessions, delivered by Mr. Sujeet Goswami, Assistant Professor, Yoga & Wellness, Himgiri Zee University, covered the basics of Yoga such as Pranayama , the art of correct breathing, Shatkarma - Purifactory Processes (Detox) and Asana (Postures). Commencement of End Term Examinations

End term examinations of the University started from 7th May

2018. Examination is one of the major part of academic

performance assessment and success. The fundamental objective

of examination is to evaluate the understanding, knowledge and

practical application of academic delivery and develop the spirit

of positive competition among students. Besides end-term

semester exams, University is having the system of continuous

evaluation, which includes sessional examinations, assessment

of class participation, grading of assignments, presentation of

case studies and practical projects. However, end term theory

examinations carry the highest weightage among all. Students

studied and made strategies for securing good grades. Students

could be easily seen sitting in groups in every corner of the

campus & library; discussing with each other, explaining topics

to other classmates, presenting arguments and a feeling of

cohesiveness. Positive spirit, teamwork, ability to manage stress,

and cohesiveness – it is all how we groom our students, the

brand ambassador of Himgiri Zee University. University has the

system of centralized evaluation of answer copies in order to

ensure transparency in evaluation and declare the results

promptly. Before the commencement of examinations, Prof.

Rakesh Ranjan, Vice Chancellor conveyed his best wishes to

students and instructed faculty members to maintain the dignity

and sanctity of the examinations.

A team of culinary students Ashish Kumar and Abhishek Giri (BHM

4th Semester) assisted by Avik Robinson and Kartik Rana (BHM 2nd

Semester) of the Department of Hotel Management, Himgiri Zee

University secured 3rd position in Regional Master Chef competition

organized during Tehri Lake Festival 2018, organized by Uttarakhand

Department of Tourism. 20 premier institutions including IHM

Gurdaspur, Kolkata, Dehradun, State Institute of HM, New Tehri,

FCI-Chamba, HIT Dehradun, Ram Institute of Hotel Management,

etc. participated in this event. The panel of judges were Chef Manjit

Gill-Corporate Chef, ITC Hotels, Chef Vikas Khanna-Celebrity Chef,

Chef Uttam Kumar-Corporate Chef, ITDC and Chef Siddharth -

Executive Chef JW Marriott, Mussoorie. The competition consisted

of a Garhwali recipe contest and a cooking competition. Judges rated

students’ dishes on authenticity, taste, appeal, presentation, and

creativity.
