AAA Word From the Pastor Please join me in congratulating our parishioners from the Korean Catholic Apostolate a Happy 40th Anniversary. We are happy to celebrate with them and to thank them for their presence and partici-pation in the parish activities. This Sunday, September 8, we welcome Bishop Barres to Holy Name of Jesus and we thank him for arranging his schedule so as to celebrate the Noon Mass. All parishion-ers are invited to join in this celebration and festivities to follow. As you know, the KCA has been and is generous and helpful to HNJ. Together we celebrated the 50th and 55th Anniversaries of HNJ (2012 and 2017); they happily and generously supported the Capital Campaign to update and reno-vate our Church; through the grace of God, Father Jiha Lim and Father Leo Song (both recently or-dained for the Diocese of Rockville Centre) were led to the Diocese under the guidance of Father Tom Jung; and they love HNJ Church as much we as do. Let us pray that God will continue to shower the KCA with many blessings and we look forward to many additional years together as the Parish Family of Holy Name of Jesus. Hope to see you at the Noon Mass this Sunday. Please mark your calendars for the 5:15 PM Mass followed by an International Celebration on Satur-day, November 9, 2019 at Holy Name of Jesus Church beginning with the 5:15 Mass concelebrated by Father Damian (and the parishioners of the Korean Catholic Apostolate), Father John (and the parish-ioners of St. Mary's Siro-Malabar Church), and Fr. Bauhoff (and the parishioners of Holy Name of Je-sus). Immediately following the Mass, a sumptuous buffet will follow in the Parish Hall to celebrate and enjoy one another's company. In fact, we've discussed this idea for quite some time. As you know, Fa-ther Damian and Father John reside at the Parish Rectory and both assist by offering Mass during the week. The three us hope that you'll plan to join in the celebration as we gather as sisters and brothers in the Lord. Please watch the bulletin for more information, details and registration. Religious Education Classes resume Monday, September 16, 2016. Please watch the bulletin for more information. For those parishioners who prefer to donate electronically using charge cards, debit cards etc., please visit the parish website www.hnjchurch.net. You'll see a donate button with a heart. You can use it to make your weekly donations, offerings for Mass cards or memorial donation of the sanctuary candle. If you wish to schedule a Mass or make a memorial donation, you'll need to call the Rectory to schedule a specific date. For those who will utilize this online option, nothing's changed - you will still use the weekly envelopes you receive in the mail and simply write the word electronic on the outside of the envelope and drop the envelope in the basket! Are you discerning a vocation to the Diaconate? The Office of Diaconate Formation will be conducting 3 information sessions for men and their wives. Wednesday September 11, Friday September 13, and Sunday September 15, all at 7 pm. If you and your wife would like to attend one of the meetings, call 631-423-0483 OR email [email protected] Gennesaret Retreat for those facing serious illness is planned for September 20-22 at Montfort Spiritu-

ality Center in Bay Shore. This retreat offers a respite, a quiet time, an oasis to enable one to continue

the journey. The retreat focuses on God’s love, His forgiveness and His faithfulness. To register or re-

ceive more information, please call Colette Fanelli at 631-665-7052.

FOCUS: As a family of believers, before we hear the

word of God, we call to mind our faults, troubles,

anxieties, and sinfulness, asking our loving and

compassionate God for mercy and forgiveness. In the first reading, we are encouraged to ask God for the kind of wisdom we could never gain on our own. In the second reading, Paul asks for prayers for everyone to accept the

liberating message of the Gospel. In the Gospel, Jesus

teaches that discipleship demands absolute loyalty to himself and the renunciation of all one’s possessions. Published by Franciscan Media

Labor Day is an opportunity to take stock of the ways workers are honored

and respected. As Pope Francis pointed out, "Work is fundamental to the dig-

nity of a person. . . . It gives one the ability to maintain oneself, one's family, to

contribute to the growth of one's own nation."

For many people, especially for the poor, who may be unemployed or under-

employed, the struggle to support their families is a daily battle. Please con-

sider supporting the Catholic Ministries Appeal which supports the programs

and services that assist families and individuals struggling in our communi-

ties.
