Debuting July 6 will be theAmerican Oaks, a $500,000 contest for turf filliesgoing 10 furlongs. “We decided we should be doingsomething that no one else is doing,” Martin Panza,Hollywood’s racing secretary, told Daily Racing Form.“No one else in America has done anything with thisdivision.” The American Oaks will be the richest race inCalifornia for three-year-old fillies. The jockeys have been asked to show stewardstheir contracts and details of any financial gains ex-pected from their involvement. Australian racing rulesprevent jockeys from providing information about theirmounts for monetary gain. The site is run by racehorseowner David Simpson and a charge of $99 per year islevied on users."We don't want to interfere with thepromotion of racing but we must ensure that the ar-rangements don't compromise the rules," said chiefsteward Kim Kelly. Iron Deputy Sidelined: Promising three-year-old Iron Deputy (Silver Deputy)has been removed from Triple Crown considerationafter a fracture was detected in his cannon bone, ac-cording to The Blood-Horse. The colt’s trainer, JimmyJerkens said that the injury occurred during Iron Dep-uty’s impressive victory in the Count Fleet S. at Aque-duct Jan. 5. “It didn’t show up right away,” Jerkenstold The Blood-Horse. “He wasn’t 100 percent soundcoming out of the race, but he had a cracked heel, andwe thought that’s what was causing it. But when itdidn't get any better, we started looking further anddiscovered the fracture. It actually was one small frac-ture running down the middle of the cannon bone andtwo other small ones branching out from it.
