Quoted by Republika.co.id,Bali's governor Made Mangku Pastikasaid the ban on smoking in publicplaces will be phased in, commencingwith an immediate ban on smoking in

government offices. The ban on smoking in Bali is

covered in Bali's Provincial Law No. 10of 2011 on No Smoking Zones.

Pastika explained that theprinciple behind the no-smoking zonesis to make these areas 100% free ofcigarette smoke in public areas andenclosed spaces. The law alsocontains sections limiting advertisingand the promotion of smoking.

    Advertising that promotes

smoking is effective inl u r i n gb e g i n n i n gsmokers; forthis reason itmust be limited,pr imar i ly byl imiting areas in which theseadvertisements can be displayed, explained the governor.

The governor promises thatafter eliminating smoking in public

claims the change willcause disruption to the life-style ofpeople living in the far east and farwest of Indonesia. Saying 200million Indonesians will beaffected by the change, Kallabranded the time-change plan asillogical and unheard of in anynation covering the widelongitudinal area such as thatoccupied by Indonesia.

Kalla said China's use ofa single-time zone was a politicaldecis ion adopted by theCommunist Party in 1949.

Ridiculing arguments ofgreater economic productivityresulting from a single time zone,Kalla points to the U.S.A. withnine time zones and Australia withthree time zones, where he saysproductivity and multiple timezones have no linkage.

The Sunlight FactorLargely ignored in the

current debate over changingtime zones in Indonesia is the factthat Indonesia, as an archipelagic

    nation stretched alongthe equator, sees an averageday 's sun l igh t vary l i t t lethroughout the calendar year. Fore x a m p l e , S u r a b a y a , a sIndonesia's second largest city,experiences sunset and sunsettimes that vary by only 20 minutes

across the course of a year.As shown on the chartprovided by Balidiscovery.com, asingle time zone would limit theamount of "waking" or "working"daylight hours available to localresidents and, by extension, tourist visitors, In a simulation fora specific day in March 2012, thenew time zone would see peoplein North Sumatra experience theirsunrise and sunset one hour laterat 7:32 am and 7:37 pm,respectively. This compares withIndonesia's far east, Jayapura, inPapua, where for the same date inMarch the sunrise and sunsetwould occur one hour earlier at4 : 4 2 a m a n d 4 : 4 0 p m ,respectively.

The current proposalmandate that all areas ofIndonesia follow a single timezone of GMT + 8. Under thisscheme, there would be nochange in Bali's current timezone.

day again folks and here we go for another shot, burparrghhh that's better. I must admit I don't mind a slipperynipple or a B-52 every now and then, it's those damnG

tequila shots that wreck me. I sat with a few Balinese mates the othernight who just so happened to have an old plastic water bottle filled withsome local Arak, apparently it comes from the north of the island, andboy oh boy did this stuff have a kick. The lads kept passing a shot glassaround and one by one, slowly over the course of the evening welistened to one of them playing a guitar, with every single one of them

smoking cigarettes that absolutely stunk of cloves plus the many very good looking young women walkingpast or coming into the little shop we sat out front of to grab a bottle of water or a drink, we all got as pissed asyou can imagine. At one point the boss cocky even sent one of his underlings to go fetch another bottle ofthis poison as the stock had almost run dry. I sat back and watched the world go by and couldn't help thinkingto myself whether we are all doing the right thing living here in Bali, hanging around with our crowd thatdoesn't do anything at all except sit and tell the same stories over and over with most making up stories ofconquest that simply put couldn't be true.

I mean I understand that most people had a life before coming to live here but please don't tell meyou've walked on the moon or you've invented inventing. You, like the most of the expat community here aregenerally only here because you found it was a basic easy lifestyle and being much easier and cheaper thanexisting in Australia you decided to stay. Getting out of bed at 10.30 and cruising through your day is great, and staying awake all night belting back as many greenys as possible the same, but in thinking about it, isthis the way it's going to be for the rest of your life?? Have you worked all your life to reach the pinnacle beingthis?? Does anyone travel anymore or go fishing? Is life all about those little green bottles and tuning intoLBFM?? Anyways it was great to have been invited to sit with the local crew and watch how they worked thepretty young girls who just seemed to wanna sit and join with us. Strange things happen when you drink the

Arak I can tell you and it was only a few months ago that a bad batch of the brew hit the streets and wasdropping people like flies, I do remember something like that and in saying so be sure to be in good companyand be very careful if you are gonna have a session on the stuff.

Anyways moving along I see the Mighty Pies had a sensational win this weekend bringing the winsin a row to seven. For those of you that can't count that's the number after 6 and before 8, and at any rate it'sa great result for almost 2 months of top level football, especially with so many key players being droppedout due to injury. Well done The Mighty Pies. I see Richmond had another solid win over the Saints, albeit byonly 9 points, but a win none the less costing me yet another tip, so putting the Saints on my shit list. Theeagles had a surprise loss to Brisbane Lions, and I think the biggest surprise was Melbourne knockingEssendon out for the day, I don't think anyone would have seen that coming. Now we have four teams allshuffling for equal top on the ladder, Eagles, Pies, Essendon, and Adelaide (three birds and a bomber). It willbe seriously interesting to see how the lads run on for the next three months in pursuit of the big game at theend of the season and just who is the hungriest dog, as in the boxing ring the old saying goes the hungrydog gets the bone !!! Woof woof woof. The Gold Coast Suns are still winless at the moment so I'd belooking for some decent odds over the next few games, as they have to win sooner or later.

Finishing up this week I will congratulate the queen of England on her diamond jubilee being 60

years on the throne. I must admit I enjoyed watching the pomp and ceremony and all the boats on theThames in celebration. Well done old girl. Lastly I believe the week just gone had the local boys in bluecatching another crew of idiots who think they can bring drugs to the island and not be caught. I hope you getthe book thrown at you and the authorities extend the full extent of the law to your sentence, as I have alwayssaid, if you do it in Bali you are a fool.

Ok my loyal readers I hope you have enjoyed reading this week's ramble as much as I have enjoyedwriting it for you. I hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always remember Don't worry aboutwhat people say behind your back, they are the people who are finding faults in your life instead of fixing thefaults in their own life.

    Enjoy your week,

    ALIASJ

How low can Facebook go?Two weeks after the largest, most anticipated IPO inyears, Facebook shareskeep going down. And down. And down. And investorswant to know how far theycan go.

During trade on early in the

week the shares hit $26.44, morethan 30 percent below the initialpublic offering price of $38, beforerebounding slightly to $26.90.

"It is difficult to argue forowning the stock today," saidBernstein Research analystCarlos Kirjner in a research notethat added to the sellingmomentum.

Kirjner forecast a priceof $25 over the next 12 months, but added that a real possibleslowdown in Facebook revenuegrowth "wi l l l i ke ly dr i veadditional downside pressure onthe stock beyond what is alreadyreflected in our price target."

Other critics echoed that."There are some real signs

that Facebook may be in realtrouble and could turn out to be adisastrous investment," said OliverPursche, President of GaryGoldberg Financial Services, aNew York money manager.

"We told people to stayaway because we didn't and stilldon't know how it was valued," hesaid.

By far the Internet'sdomi nan t s oc i a l ne two rk ,Facebook went public on May 18 in

a $16 billion share sale, the secondlargest IPO in the United Statesever.

The run-up to the sale wasmarked by bubbly enthusiasmreminiscent of the dot com era, tothe extent that lead underwriterMorgan Stanley agreed to raise theoffering price and increase thenumber of shares issued.

But the shares barely heldabove the $38 level on the openingday and have fallen ever since,

delivering real and paperlosses of some $4.6 billion to thenew investors.

Price forecasts are all overthe place, from $10 to the upper$40s, as more questions are beingraised about the company's realpotential to turn an audience ofnearly one billion users into an

    advertising bonanza.Bernstein Research's $25

estimate takes note of thecompany's great potential but alsoits still-unproven ability to fully tap

that potential -- whether it canmake social network-basedadvertising as effective as, forinstance, Google's search-basedads, and if it can do so as fast asmany investors expect.

"We do not think it is likelythat the issues associated with theeffectiveness of social advertisingwill be addressed, or that upsidefrom new opportunities willbecome materially clearer in a fewquarters," Kirjner said.

"To the contrary, webelieve that Facebook's revenuegrowth over the next twelve

months will at best stabilize, andprobably further decelerate."

Pursche said the selloffhas nothing to do with thedarkening clouds over theeconomic landscape or anythingnew learned by investors since theIPO.

Nor does it have much todo with the revelation that theunderwriters quietly reviseddownward their forecasts of

Facebook's earnings justdays before the IPO.

Instead, inst i tut ionalinvestors bought expecting anopening day price surge "becauseit is an exciting company. Whenthat didn't happen, they have beendumping the shares, he said.

    "The sentiment is very

negative, the technicals arebroken," he said.

"Real structural issues"over Facebook 's earn ingspotential aside, Pursche said, fund

managers are likely now lookingto how their performance andportfolios will look the end of thesecond quarter, and are sellingto minimize the damage.

"If you are a well-knownfund manager, you probablydon't want Facebook in your top10 holdings" in the half-yearreport.

"I wouldn't be shocked ifon June 30 it could be tradingbelow $20."

Trip Chowdhry of GlobalEquities Research called the IPO"totally mispriced."

Valuations are "anywherefrom $8 to $50. The price is all overthe place," he said. "I think the IPOshould have been priced from $10to $15."

There are optimist icanalysts out there, and more arerecommending the stock as it falls.

    B u t P u r s c h e a n dChowdhry both said the selloffcould continue until the companyc o n v i n c i n g l y c l e a r s u p

Body odour test results 'surprisingOld people dohave a particularsmell and it isnicer than thescent of youngerpeople.

    Researchers

have conducted anexperiment that showshumans like otheranimals can detectsocial information, such as how old othersare, by their scent.

Armpit odours, from pads sewn into T-shirts, were collectedfrom volunteers ofyoung, middle-agedand old participants.

    Th e d o n o r shad to wash nightlywith odourless soap

and shampoo, had toavoid spicy foods, cigarettes and boozeand sleep alone in their T-shirts forfive consecutive nights.

Each day the T-shirtswere stored in airtight bags, saidthe researchers, led by JohanLundstrom of the Monell

    Chemical Senses Centerin Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Their paper, printed in thejournal PLoS ONE, said thedonated smells were evaluated bypeople who were asked to rate theintensity and pleasantness of

each odour ,identify which of twoscents came from theolder individual, andestimate the age of thei n d i v i d u a l w h oproduced each sample.

    Dr Lundstromsaid the participants

    w e r e a b l e t odiscriminate betweenthe three donor agecategories and therereally was a distinct "oldperson" smell.

"But old personsmell is less intenseand less unpleasantthan body odours ofmiddle-aged and youngindividuals," he said.

    " T h i s w a ssurprising given thepopular conception ofold age odour as

    disagreeable."Dr Lundstrom

said this might just be theirarmpits.

"It is possible that othersources of body odours, such asskin or breath, may have differentqualities," he said.

Squat toilets will boost shareholders ProfitWith investment banksfacing an uncer tainfuture, one Nomurashareholder has comeu p w i t h a n o v e lsuggestion to help toboost its share price,

replace all office toiletsw i th Japanese-s ty lesquat facilities.

"All toilets within thecompany's offices shall beJapanese-style toilets, therebytoughening the legs and loinsand hunkering down on a dailybasis, aiming at achieving four-d ig i t stock pr ices, " theshareholder said on the bank'swebsite ahead of this month'sannual meeting on June 27.

    "The company can

surely avoid failure if theystraddle over a Japanese-styletoilet every day and strengthen

their lower body. If itcannot, it can only be acceptedas a bad luck."

Under Japanese law, shareholders who have held atleast 30,000 shares for sixmonths or more can make theirown proposals at annual

    meetings."When considering the

proposals for the shareholdersmeeting, we take relevantaction in accordance with thelaw," a Nomura spokeswomansaid.

The bank's share pricedropped below 1,000 yen($12.75) late in 2008 and hasnot reached the four-digit marksince then.

    T h e u n n a m e dshareholder submitted 100proposals to be voted on at the

meeting, including changingthe company's name to"Vegetable Holdings", though

only 18 met the bank'srequirements for them to besubmitted to shareholders. Thebank's board of directorsopposed all 18.

Other suggest ionsinclude abolishing the practiceof giving three banzai cheers at

the annual meeting becausetoo many shareholders havingstrong armpit odor.

The proposals aren't allas far-fetched, however. Oneof the more conventionalsuggestions was that anycapital increase should befunded by rights issue ratherthan public stock offering, andthat any decision on publicstock offerings should besubject to a resolution atshareholder meetings toprotect shareholder rights. Australian cricketers won't rule out strikeAustralia's top cricketershave refused to rule outstrike action if a June 30deadline passes withouta new pay agreement

with the country's cricketboard, the players' unionsaid.

Austral ian Cricketers'Association (ACA) chief PaulMarsh said his organisation andCricket Australia (CA) had hit astalemate over negotiations for anew five-year deal and werelooking at all their options.

However, he insisted anystrike would be "an absolute last

    resort".Marsh said the ACA was

looking for about $30 million but it isnot clear yet how much CA has puton the table.

Marsh said Australia'sparticipation in the Twenty20 World

Cup in Sri Lanka in Septembercould be under threat, along withAustralia's one-day internationaltour of England in June-July.

"You can't rule anythingout. I don't want this to sound likethe players are all preparing to goon strike because that's not thecase at all," Marsh told SEN Radio.

"That type of action is anabsolute last resort."

Marsh said if a new deal

could not be agreed uponby the end of this month, the ACAwould prefer to keep the currentdeal rolling along in the shortterm.

"If Cricket Australia don'twant to do that, then we're forced

with a decision to make," Marshsaid.

"We either accept theposition that they put forward orwe look at what our other optionsare.

"We should be makingsure we know what all thedifferent options are so if thattime comes, we can sit down withthe players and say 'what do youwant to do?'

Cecchin d ropped as Maroons name squad

Referee Matt Cecch in has beendumped from game two ofState of Origin at Sydney'sO l ymp i c s ta d i u m, to b ereplaced by veteran TonyArcher.

B e n C u m m i n s , w h oofficiated in the opening game of theseries alongside Cecchin, hasretained his place despite both mencoming under intense criticism forawarding a controversial late try toGreg Inglis in game one.

Cecchin was axed after justone game in charge while Archer hasbeen appointed for his 11th Originclash.

    Referees' boss Bill Harrigan

    admitted there were several

candidates for the role."We were pleased with

the performances of the officials inOrigin I but there is also enormouscompetition within this squad fromofficials who are striving to be apart of these big matches,"Harrigan said.

Video referee SeanHampstead has also been

dumped and replaced by Steve Clark. It was Hampstead who gavethe green light for Inglis' controversialfour-pointer against the Blues in gameone.

Queensland coach MalMeninga said he is not concerned byrefereeing matters and has no plansto meet with the whistleblowersbefore the game.

"The referees have copped afair beating in the last 10 days, which Ithink is unfortunate," Meninga said.

"(But) it's not necessary forme to see the refs."

decide soon on whether he wouldtravel to Sydney for the match."Matty's with family at the

moment and he'll be with family untilhe makes a decision to come backdown here," Meninga said.

"He wants to play but that'sall conducive on what happens to hisfamily."

Scott's potential absence isMeninga's only concern although theMaroons coach indicted back rowerAshley Harrison was carrying aniggling groin injury.

"It was easily more intense than in aTest match," the recently-cappedKangaroos rising star said.

"I can remember parts of the gamewhere you run around to get back on-sideand they are already running at you.

"I've never experienced that before. Now I have and I'll be ready for game two."Tim will be quite an addition to the

team. Any team that plays the PenrithPanthers will always do video on him and Iam glad I'm on the same team as him.

Panthers prop Tim Grant is ready to use thelessons learnt from Petero Civoniceva to lead NewSouth Wales to victory in next week's State ofOrigin clash in Sydney.

The Origin debutant says is now ready to put thoselessons into practice and upset the Maroons in next week'sState of Origin clash in Sydney.

Grant will go head-to-head with former Panthersskipper Petero Civoniceva, and the 24-year-old said it will be

a special occasion when he takes on his mentor at theOlympic stadium.

"It's a great opportunity being here and playingagainst Pet will be a great moment for me as he's helped somuch throughout my career," Grant said.

"I've learnt everything from him off the field and now Iam playing against him and I am sure I will learn more fromthat experience too and try to use it to my advantage."

While Grant is full of admiration for thestatesmanlike figure of Civoniceva, he credits formerQueensland prop Steve Price with opening his eyes to whatis required to be an elite-level prop.

"Having the size I always went well in the juniors inthe front-row," Grant said.

"But I remember in my debut season playing againstSteve Price and I learned a few lessons that night that I still

value today."It was the way he was working on the field for histeam-mates and the amount of stuff he did without the ballthat really gave me a better understanding of my position."

Grant will pack down with North Queensland front-rower James Tamou, who had a superb debut in game one,and the 194cm bookend is looking forward to lining upalongside him.

"I've met Jimmy before and no doubt we'll have agood chat over the camp and if I can play anywhere near asgood as he did, then I've done well," he said.
