The user can rest assured that all products by the KARL STORZ group have been designed and constructed not only in compliance with strict internal quality guidelines, but also with international standards. All data relevant for safe use, such as viewing direction, sizes and diameters, or notes regarding sterilization of telescopes, are applied to the instruments, have been formulated according to international standards, and therefore provide reliable information.

As we constantly seek to improve and modify our products, we reserve the right to make changes in design that vary from catalog descriptions.

Original or Counterfeit

KARL STORZ products are name brand articles renowned around the world and represent the state of the art in important areas of healthcare. A large number of “copy cat” products are currently being offered in many markets. A small horizontal anterior rectus fascialincision is made under magnified videocontrol. Blunt cannula tip (T).

The TERNAMIAN ENDOTIP cannula isengaged in the anterior rectus fascialwindow and rotated clockwise.

Under clear visual control the cannulaadvances atraumatically withoutapplying axial penetration force.

Rotation stretches radially, transposesand then lifts the anterior rectus fascia (F)and muscle (M) on to the cannula’s outerthread.

The rectus muscle (M) is transposedlaterally to expose the posterior rectusfascia (PF).

Further rotation will lift the posteriorrectus fascia (PF) and advance thecannula to the pre-peritoneal space (P).

The TERNAMIAN ENDOTIP System(Endoscopic Threaded Imaging Port) isa KARL STORZ instrument for opticallycontrollable access to the abdominalcavity. It replaces conventional trocarsand, due to its unique design, offers arange of notable advantages for bothsurgeon and patient.

● The tissue is not cut through as it iswhen punctured with a conventionaltrocar, but is merely displaced. Theintegrity of the fasciae is preserved,and, therefore, that of the fascialclosure mechanism.

● As sharp points or cutting trocars arenot used, the risk of unintentionalinjuries to the patient is eliminated.

● Since the TERNAMIAN ENDOTIP Systemis not pushed into the peritoneum by applyingpressure, but is introduced by controlled rotation,injuries to organs caused by uncontrolled penetrationof the abdominal wall are virtually impossible.

● In conjunction with a HOPKINS® telescope, the sur-geon has an excellent, enlarged image of the point ofpenetration and is, therefore, able to carefully monitor

the penetration under optical control. The varioustissue layers can be identified precisely.

● The special design of the TERNAMIAN ENDOTIPSystem ensures a secure hold in the abdominal walland prevents gas loss at the point of penetration.

The thin peritoneal membranetransilluminates and appears blue-grayin color (P).

Continuous video control demonstratesdifferent entry and exit layers clearly.This unique feature of the TERNAMIANENDOTIP System allows the surgeonto stop advancing the cannula if bowel,vessels or adhesions are observed.

Access is under magnified visual controland atraumatic. Fascia and musclefibers are not transected. The cannula’sthread acts as a stabilizer to preventslippage and discourage CO2 leakage.

When the surgery is completed thecannula is rotated counter-clockwise.The different tissue layers disengagefrom the outer thread to converge inperfect apposition.

The peritoneum appears first (P),followed by the posterior rectus fascia(PF), rectus muscle (M), and then theanterior rectus fascia.

The rectus muscle fibers meet verticallyto seal the peritoneal window, while theanterior rectus fascia shuts horizontally,to restore the natural tissue fiberorientation.

Since access is under visual control,hiatal or omental herniation along thecannula’s tract is avoided. Lower halfof anterior rectus fascia (F).

As sharp instruments or trocars are notused, muscle and fascial fibers are nottransected and no tripolar fascial rent issustained.

Tissue integrity is preserved at theaccess and exit site, maintaining thenatural muscle shutter-mechanism.
