LEGEND OF STRIPES AND OIL PASTEL This is my second project for studio class of 3rd year. The project is actually connected with my �rst project and thetitle was “Colours Only” (http://issuu.com/gunetuvay/docs/colours_only)

Brie�y in the �rst project I made series of paintings with oil pastel with similar style of Patrick Henron’s “Horizontal Stripes” painting. So the storybook is related with �rst project which in a sense story in this book actually a documentation too. At the start of this project we found books that describes our method, subject, matter and theory for the �rst project. The aim is to create a story book, poster, �lm, brand identity or something original that isn’t stated here. Main idea of this project is to being “original”. At �rst while project brief is presented there was a statment that says after we gathered foods for our family no one wanted to hear your story; so sometimes while we tell our story we have to exaggerate. At �rst I started my project as a making documentation �lm for how I made the �rst project. After I realise it would be better if I exaggered the facts. In storybook the theme is kind of a dark-fantasy which is contrary of my �rst project which is the explanation (statement)part was some people found childish. The story about a land that have only greyscale colour scheme and artists of di�erent kingdoms; Atrick Enron and Gunta. One day Atrick made a painting that makes everything colourful however he executed by the king. After that the brush destorys the kingdom. After many years Gunto �nds the brush and it turns in an oil pastel in his hands. He basicly creates something with Atrick’s style but di�erent method. In story I wanted to create something little wierd which is one of my points to make a original in terms of story. For illustartions colouring is actually reference to my �rst project and Henron’s painting. Reference point during colouring is the leftmost page. Whatever in there at the left side takes colour of it. Since colours may make things look complicated in illustrations I have to draw less detailed �gures. As for book refernces; Oil Pastel by Jacqueline Black(Method), Wallpaper, Popular Photography and Images(Subject and Matter), Design Art by Bruno Murani(Theory) and The Art of Looking Sideways by Phaidon(Theory, Method and Matter).

Long long time ago in a far away land where is people do not know any colour other than black, white and grey.

In this land there was a man called Atrick Eron who was an artist. One day he saw a world where is a have lot of different coloursin his dream.

After he woke up he wanted change this world like in the dream he saw. He took his trusty brush and canvas andclimb nearest mountain.

He gaze the sunset which he thought is look boring compared to his dream. Brush goes to left and right, leftand right...

He worked days after days and �nally �nished his artwork. Suddenly sunset become colourful like in the dreams!It have colours of "red", "orange", "green" and "purple" which he called it.

During that time kings daughter was looking at outside and she saw this miraculous event and she go to the king show it what is happening. She tells she really wants this thing too.The king couldn't beileved his eyes and tell the soldiers to �nd the man whoever done this. Soldiers found Atrick Eron and they go to the castle.

King ordered Atrick to show how he done that. And he does the same thing in front of the everyone with curious and shocked eyes of the people.

However king wanted this power to himself and give as present to his daughter. King gave ordered to capture Atrick. Soldiers brought him to the castle and they executed him.

King took the brush and gave to his daughter.

She does the same thing as Atrick did. However since brush lost its true master it become very furious. It starting to burn and destroy everything in its side.

Greyscaled land painted with colours of �re.

Years and years pasts after this event. In a different time, different kingdom but same land another artist lives there.

His name was Gunta.

One day king of this kingdom calls Gunta. King tell Gunta about legend of Atrick and his work with his brush and he wanted to him �nd this. After Gunta heard everything from the king he become very curious and excited about as well and he, even though he wasn't have any other choice, accepts the mission.

He goes to destroyed kingdom. However the road wasvery dangerous and Gunta is not a �ghter. He is not a coward either. He braced himself, unsheath his sword. Steel clashed with �esh, death was everywhere.

After a long struggle Gunta �nally got the brush and rush back to the kingdom.

King gathers everyone and soldiers puts a canvas in front of Gunta. He does same thing accourding to legend. However nothing happened.

King and everyone starting lost their patience.

Suddenly Gunta come up with an idea. He starting to gaze a different view other than sunset. While gazing there he squeeze his eyes and different colours starting to appear in his eyes.

And the brushbecome a oil pastel! He paints his canvas horizontaly. Everything become colourful!

Some people shocked some people dance with joy. In the end king and Gunta was reach their aim.

However Gunta feared that may same thing happen like in the past.

With his oil pastel he mummify and bury himself in a far away place where no one ever would �nd them.
