2008 2nd Quarter HCM NEWSLETTERGREETINGS from Waianae,

Oahu in the name of our Lord and

Savior, Jesus Christ. What a privilege to be a part of His family andto serve Him here with your help.Thank you for your gifts, interest, support, and prayers.

I mentioned one baptism atIFCClast quarter - there have beenat least 12 since then. Since we

have two services in a school audi

torium, baptisms are conducted atother sites, so its difficult to keepcount. The youth group meets inthe chapel of IFCC and there havebeen at least four baptisms there(including my granddaughter's -Moani King). Also some at a beachpark on Sunday evenings. I thinkeight of them. We have new military families, often coming frommany backgrounds, and they areencouraged to attend the 101 classwhich teaches them God's plan forsalvation and about becoming apart of the church. So we oftenhave adult baptisms, too.

We have a large active group ofboth Jr. and Sr. High youth. Theyhave classes on Sunday mornings, and the Seniors have an Alive ser

vice on Thursday evenings. About30 of our yoimg people attended

the Hawaii Islands Ministries Con

ference with their adult chaperones. There is an adult conference, too, which our preacher, Rich Hahn described as "top notch." I was askedto recruit a prayer team to supportthe youth, so I listed their namesand asked individuals to select 1-3to pray for regularly. Now they arepraying for those who will be going to Mexico on June 23, to helpbuild a house for a needy familythere. The nine young people (including Moani and Robert King) andfour sponsors have been busy raising the money for support andfunds to build: and furnish the

house. Praise the Lord, it is done!

The minister from my homechurch, Judson Road in Kokomo,Indiana, did come and preach atIFCC for both services on May 4.Two airlines ceased operationsthat weekend, so Gary, his wifeLinda and her sister, were stranded in Houston and spent a nightthere. They were able to get astand-by flight on Saturday morning, so he was able to preach here, and then we visited on Sunday afternoon, but missed the sight-seeing on Saturday. They went on to

Amy and I have been involvedin a Women's class on Thursdaymornings. Many of the attendeesare military wives with young children. Volunteers choose their own

subjects and lead the class. BothAmy and I have led twice. Childcare is provided by one graciouslady and a home-schooled seniorguy who is raising funds to go on amission trip to Samoa. It is plannedto end the class when school is out,but Amy is proposing to keep itgoing with the children, too, andall learning about the Bible. We'llsee.

Our evening Vacation BibleSchool will be held June 9-13. Achurch group from CA is coming tolead and teach with local workers

for team leaders. Amy and the children will help. It is different forme. For^nce, I wiU only help ffiefamily from home. I prepare aQuarterly Financial report for mysupporters. If you would like toreceive a copy, just let me know.

2008 3rd Quarter HCM NEWSLETTERGREETINGS from Waianae,

Oahu, Hawaii in His name whocreated and sustains this beauti

ful island chain, and with yoursupport and prayers allows me toserve Him here. Thank you!

Island Family ChristianChurch (IFCC) continues to havefrequent baptismal services inthe chapel or at the Sand IslandBeach Park, and now at a newsite — the OCC Men's prison.Rick described an improvisedtank where recently ten menwere baptized. While they cannotworship with us, they are a partof our ohana (family) and wewant to surround them with our

love and prayers, and to supportthem as they return to society. The ministry team started withfour members who have visited

weekly for several months.

Our women's morning Biblestudy was recessed during theschool vacation, but Amy conducted a Bible Boot Camp forfamilies. Their goal was to construct a time-line of Old Testa

ment History for each family.Amy taught the historical periodsand produced hand-outs to addto their scrolls. Several of the la

dies who wanted to attend were

on vacation, but the ones who attended were enthusiastic. Now

the weekly class has resumed.Amy taught the first week, and Idid the second.

I was unable to participate inthe summer sessions. My niece,Martha Behle, with whom my sister lived, wrote that Bertha wassick and not responding to treatment — didn't seem to want to

work at getting better. She askedif I could come for a visit and to

celebrate several family events,

among them Bertha's 89th birthday.

I went and visited for three

weeks, returning on July 2nd. Ispent hours visiting, playinggames, and working crosswordpuzzles with her in the hospital. She was alert and happy for themost part, but frail and did nottolerate IV's well. She had swol

len legs and infection. She camehome for a few days, but whenthe antibiotics failed to stop theinfection she was taken back to

the hospital. Her condition continued to deteriorate.

Shortly after I left, she wantedto get out of the hospital and goto her heavenly home. They senther home under hospice care, andshe died on July 17th.

The last day I was with Bertha,we enjoyed watching a Cardinalsbaseball game. Of course, the TVwas high on the wall, so Berthacould see it from her bed. I sat be

side her, so my neck got reallysore from looking up.

When Martha took me back to

their house, I was so dizzy Icouldn't stand alone or walk.Martha helped me to the bathroom where I vomited. In the

morning I was still diz^, so shetook me to the emergency room, where they said I had vertigo, butokayed me to fly.

I stayed overnight with mygranddaughter in Los Angelesand visited another hospitalemergency room. With lots ofhelp I made it home, but am stilldizzy, but not so bad. I get aroundin the house but use a walker

elsewhere. I have seen a chiro

practor and neurologist and continue the exercises. People arepra)dng, so I trust I will get better.

I continue my encouragingministries, by passing on themany publications I receive —Christian Standard, One Body,Horizons, plus many missionnewsletters — IDES, (Jood NewsProductions, etc.

My monthly Encourager is aclearing house for many items of

Page 5: Luttrell Henrietta 2008 Hawaii

interest to our churches here and

elsewhere.

Our churches need preachersand workers. A small group onKauai asked me to publish theirneed for a missionary minister,Sunset Beach Christian Church

and Central Oahu Christian need

one. Island Family ChristianChurch needs a Youth Minister.

Please pray that the Lord willraise up workers for the harvest.

We at IFCC have had a temporary children's director, but herheart is in Africa where she wants

to serve as a missionary. Thechurch has hired one of our own,Denise Matsumoto, to replaceher. Denise came to Oahu to work

at our Palolo Valley preschool.

married our member Mitchell, has served on our State Board of

Education for years and hastaught preschool during this time. She has been involved in the

children's ministries at IFCC for

years.

Our missions committee has

been really busy this summer, and has organized, raised funds, recruited workers and sent over

30 persons on short-term missiontrips to Mexico, Samoa, and ShowLow, AZ.

My friend, Zola Brovm, is finally home after spending aboutthree weeks in the hospital with avariety of serious health problems. She gets around with awalker and continues her medica

tions. She lives in an elderly housing complex and has manyfriends nearby who watch overand help each other.

I find joy in serying and I prayyou do, too.

2008 4th Quarter HCMTTEWSLETTERGreetings from Waianae

Coast, Oahu, Hawaii. Rainfall hasbeen below normal the past several years, but we are finally getting more this year, so thelandscape is greener and morenormal for this holiday season. How thankful we should be that

the externals do not affect the joywe have as we celebrate Jesus'

birthday. May you have a MerryChristmas and a blessed New

Year.

FAMILY: As is my custom inthis final newsletter ofthe year, Iwant to update you on my family.LORA, and her husband GREG,are both working with the samecomputer companies theyworked with last year.

MARK is still at Lockheed-

Martin and wife, NIKKI, is astay-at-home mom caring fortheir two children, ALEC andNATAUE.

LETA is the Kindergarten administrator and teaches one class

at a Christian School - husband,DAVID LEGGITT, keeps thecomputers and the security forces working at local airports. Theirdaughters have graduated fromcollege. ANYAis teaching first

grade in Las Vegas and workswith high schoolers in herchurch, MEGHAN is at home and

working for the post office. NowLeta is taking college classes toget an advanced degree. Theyhave also down-sized from their4-bedroom, 3 bath condo to ahouse - still in San Jose.

AMY, DAVID, and childrenMOANI and ROBERT live nextdoor. Robert is a high school senior, will be going to California toplay his saxophone in the Tournament of Roses on New Year's

Day, and plans to join the Navywhen he graduates. MOANI, asophomore also plays in the band(cornet/trumpet), but she doesn'tenjoy marching band like Robertdoes. AMY is an officer in the

State PTA, president of the highschool PTSA, and on a localSchool Community Council. Sheand her husband, DAVID, arestarting a business in investmentreal estate, taking college classesand meeting with local investors.I'm sure you can guess that herschedule is full!

BETTINA and her husband,JEFF LEBLANC, also live inMichigan where Bettina works ata credit union and Jeff works at agolf course. They are also workingwith the new congregation, andBettina is part of the worshipteam. Both are still in college.

KAWIKA is in the Naval Re

MY HEALTH: You may remember that when I returnedfrom visiting my sister July 1,1had severe dizziness. I still am

unbalanced, but I can get aroundin my house, dust, sweep, cook, and do laundry because I'm closeto walls and furniture. I carry mywalker outside and can put itdown as I need it as I stagger andweave from side to side, I've beendoing the prescribed exercises, visit a chiropractor, and haveseen a neurologist, but nothinghelps very much. Yesterday, I revisited the neurologist who toldme that x-rays showed that myblood vessels looked good, but Ihad arthritis in my neck and apinched nerve there. The MRI re-

Page 7: Luttrell Henrietta 2008 Hawaii

vealed that I had had micro-

strokes, probably over manyyears. These usually don't causeany symptoms, but they may contribute to my continued dizziness.I'm watching my diet to keep myblood pressure and cholesteroldown.

FUTURE: Of course, I can nolonger be much involved inhands-on ministry. I need help togo anywhere, but Amy and familyseem eager to help and take me tothe doctor, to church, to run errands, etc. I can still write letters, make phone calls, and with Amy's

-help, put out our monthly news-sheet, The Encourager. I have also continued as an intercessor for

expressed needs of Island FamilyChristian Church members, whichI receive each week by email. It

gets harder and harder to go to abrotherhood church since theyare over 30 miles away, so wehave been attending Bible believing congregations nearer us. Myhome and car are paid for, and Iget a monthly Social SecurityCheck, so I don't really need mission support.

This will probably be the lastquarterly report you will receive, diough I will keep in touch withmany who have become dearfriends over the years.

I would love to hear from you,and gifts will be receipted and letters answered. I would eneassageyou to send your support to ayoung missionary who is startingto raise fimds, or to some otherneedy field, like the New IberianMission Association. Lori Pinney

Ng, leading that work in Guatemala, was a mission intern withus at Palolo Valley.

Thank you for all your support through the years. Yourprayers and encomagement havemeant so much to me and myfamily.

Yours in His service,

HevwCettO'
