community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Anita’s family. HELP NEEDED.

We are in urgent need of some more Parent helpers to help cut fruit for the students every Friday morning. Just come along to school every Tuesday morning at 9:00a.m and ask Lisa in the school office for directions.

Parenting Ideas

This week’s Parenting Ideas publication is centred on Consequences. Taking time to read these information sheets, will enable you to have some skills up your sleeve when dealing with your children’s behaviours. Consequences are an important part of our work here and increasingly students and all young people need to become aware of the consequences of their actions. This learning process involving consequences starts in the home and is supported at school. Take a positive step toward more effective parenting and read this week’s article. I hope you enjoy the reading and good luck in that ever rewarding experience of being a good parent. SCHOOL COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

Any parents who would like to become involved in the school are invited to join the Community Development and Fundraising committee. This committee meets and organises school activities to help support the school. It would be great to know that some newer members of our community could pitch in and join this vital group. Charlotte Lindsay is the current convener of this committee, so if you are interested, please let the school office know and Charlotte will contact you. Paul Volkering Principal.

SKIING PAYMENTS-IMPORTANT CHANGES

This year payments for skiing, snow boarding and cross country skiing must be paid one week before the children attend. Please note that if your children are intending to commence the skiing program on Friday 3rd August

Thank you to all of our families who supported these successful events and a special thanks to Charlotte Lindsay and her team of wonderful volunteers.

Bouncing back

We lost 4 chooks to a fox a few months ago. This happened in the middle of the day when the chooks had been let out to wander freely. The remaining hen and rooster were

traumatised, but within a few days the hen was again laying an egg a day and the rooster was waking us up at dawn. They had bounced back from their ordeal.

A month ago we heard a chook-type shriek and dashed out to see what was happening. The rooster had hidden himself in the shed and the hen was nowhere to be seen. After an anxious search we found her cowering under a bush. The rooster is now called "Mr Chicken" for his lack of bravery. The next day, she laid an egg and he crowed at dawn.

A week ago there was another commotion. The rooster had raced for the protection of the shrubs near the house and the hen was found in the dam about to go under. As the menacing hawk took off from a nearby tree, we grabbed her, dried her off and put her back in the shed. She laid another egg and Mr Chicken crowed.

We have a hen and a rooster who keep on bouncing back from unpleasant events.

When people keep on bouncing back from unpleasant or challenging events we call it resilience, the ability to get on with life and to learn from experience. It is something we try to instil in the students.

It's not that we deliberately put difficult experiences in their way; it's just that life is full of challenges. We can go and hide in the shed (so to speak), or come out again and get on with life. Further, different people show resilience in different ways. Our hen lays eggs and our rooster crows. In learning resilience in the face of an ordeal, one child will quietly get on with life and be internally stronger, while another will show their strength to the world. Either way, it is right for them. Sue McDonald (Sue is employed under the National Schools Chaplaincy and Student Well Being Program. The opinions expressed here are her own.)

Tabloid Sports

The Tabloid Sports is where we run seven activities at once. Every ten minutes we rotate the students around so everyone gets a go. The activities are based on developing our eleven motor skills. These are: Forehand Strike; Two handed Strike (backhand); Vertical Jump; Kick; Punt; Throw; Catch; Run; Leap; Dodge and Ball Bounce. Our station is based on Kicking and Punting. We have got the students kicking to people, targets, off cones and the ground. The people running our station are Warwick, Jack, Josh and Angus. We found that the younger kids have different attention spans than the older kids so we had to modify our activity a lot. One thing that we liked best was the student’s enthusiasm. It made the activity so much more fun to run. We really enjoyed running the Tabloid Sports and we hope it will be just as fun for the rest of the term.

By Jack Fergus (Gr.6) and Warwick Crawford (Gr.6)

Our tabloid sport was ball bounce. At first we didn’t think we would complete all the activity, but we ended up having too much time. So we had to think of more ideas to fill the time. Our picture shows one of our filler activities it was tunnel ball where students had to bounce the ball as they ran back to the front of the line. We are really looking forward to running our next tabloid sports session. By Talullah Madden (Gr.5) and Accalia Paine (Gr.5)
