PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE:

What a busy couple of days in Mansfield over

the “Cup” weekend. Although I wasn’t able to

be here, from all reports, the weekend was

very busy in Mansfield and the school was well

represented at the Grand Parade on Saturday

morning. Many thanks to our Parents &

Friends group who drove the representation

of our school and students in the Parade.

TARGA

A reminder to parents that school hours are

as normal tomorrow, Friday November 7th.

With changes made to the running of the

Targa event last year, schools no longer need

to finish early to accommodate closure of

roads and bus routes. Normal school times

tomorrow, Friday Nov 7th.

BUSHDANCE

We hope all families get behind the

forthcoming Bush Dance. School Council and

our Community Development and Fundraising

group are working hard to try and get as many

of our families together for a fun night on

Saturday, November 22nd.

The Bush Dance is for adults and children and

will be conducted under the large covered

area where the basketball court is. We know

the weather will be excellent, so come along

and enjoy a fun night. Food will be provided as

part of your ticket, but numbers need to be

known for catering purposes. Why not get a

group of other parents together and come

along with the children and have a fun night.

Tickets are available from the school office

WHOLE SCHOOL PHOTO

My sincere thanks to all families for ensuring

your child was in correct school uniform

yesterday, for the whole school photograph.

Page 2: Mansfield Primary School · Mansfield Primary School ... the weekend was School Assembly 3pm ... very busy in Mansfield and the school was well morning

assembled for the photo and close to every child in correct

school uniform.

On school uniform, parents of girls are advised to ensure that

girls do not wear jewellery and that wherever possible girls

wear their hair tied back. People sometimes wonder why we

advise girls with long hair to wear it tied back. The simple

reason is one of health and safety. Long hair can easily get

caught in different equipment.

A further reminder that girls need to wear correct school

pants. If girls are not wearing their shorts correctly, there

will be a consequence.

REMINDERS

We are well into planning for 2015 and therefore we ask

your help in making sure you advise us if you will not be

here in 2015. If you know for sure that your child will be

moving to another school or state, please make sure you

advise your child’s teacher or the school office as soon as

possible.

TRAFFIC SAFETY

Thanks to our ever vigilant community, I recently had a

report of a child not observing correct behaviour near traffic

on their way to school. I remind all parents that if you see or

know of and MPS student behaving inappropriately, on their

way to or from school, please advise the school office.

Any misbehaviour of our students either on their way to or

from school will not be tolerated.

STUDENT SAFETY

Parents are once again reminded that you should report any

incident that you become aware of when your child arrives

home. If your child reports something to you at home and you

are not sure that the school knows, please give is the

courtesy of a phone call so that we can follow up. In most

instances we may already know about it, but it does help if we

work collaboratively in such matters.

PREP YR 1 /2 MUSICALS

The school community are invited to attend the forthcoming

Prep (November 13th) and Year 1/2 (November 27th)

musicals to be held in the Nobian. Both events start at

6:00p.m. Please make sure you keep these times and dates

free. It should be lots of fun!

YR 5 & 6 CAMPS

Sincere thanks to our teachers, staff and parents who

attended and supported the recent Year 5 & 6 camps. Under

the leadership of Tom MacMunn both camps were a great

success. Despite one of two injuries, all students took on the

challenges provided and came away having had a great time. I

had the privilege of attending with the Year 5 students and

to see them tackle to breaks and surf at Angelsea was

inspiring. Thanks to all our Yr 5 & 6

parents for enabling the students to

attend. I know it can be a costly exercise,

but the enjoyment of the students was

evident.

Parenting Ideas

This week’s Parenting Ideas publication is about “true grit”! I

thought it appropriate to raise this issue, especially after the

Year 5 & 6 camps where it was really evident that many of

our students have high levels of “grit”. It speaks volumes of

the great work you do as parents, when we see kids take on a

challenge and succeed. I hope you enjoy this week’s article

and also enjoy this beautiful spring weather!

MPS SCHOOL APP

We can now report that our school app is now functioning

smoothly so now is a good time to download a copy of our free

mobile app. We have had 80 Apple users and 20 Android

users download the app so far. The app is a great tool for

communicating with the school especially for reasons for

absence and updating new family details. The app also has

the school calendar and newsletter available for viewing. We

intend to offer additional tools as more families take up this

opportunity.

Please be reminded that when you download the app to

select “YES” for “Push Notifications” so that you can

receive any messages directly to your phone.

BETTER COMMUNITIES SUCCESS

At the ninth Victorian Early Years Awards held recently

Mansfield Shire’s Better Communities for Children

Leadership Network won the highest accolade in the

Victorian Early Years and Education sector. Our Welfare Co-

ordinator, Nicole Comerford, was an instrumental member of

this team leadership network where the aims were to improve

health, wellbeing, welfare, education, social belonging and

inclusion for all children and their parents in the Mansfield

Shire. Three priority areas have been identified which

include increased speech therapy services, a unified

community campaign on ‘Respectful Relationships’ and

improved service co-ordination.

MPS Integration Aides For those of our school community that don’t know us,

our names are Tracey, Andrea, Tina and Angie. We

work with students that have any type of special need

here at Mansfield Primary School.

While our role can be very challenging at times it is

also extremely rewarding. Every time a child that we

work with reach a goal or conquer a fear the hard work

has paid off and it makes all the effort worthwhile.

Our roles include working one on one with students in

the classroom, assisting students with everyday

routines which enables these students to be included

in our school community

MANSFIELD YOUTH HUB SURVEY With the announcement of $100,000 Sport and Recreation Victoria funding the development of a 'Youth Hub' in Mansfield is now a reality. Through a comprehensive site analysis process, Mansfield Shire Council has narrowed the selection of sites for the Youth Hub down to the final two. The sites are the current location at the Mansfield Recreation Reserve and the East High Street site which is located between 1 High St and the Botanic Gardens. Both sites are very different, yet both are capable of being developed for such a facility. The question is where would the residents of Mansfield rather the Youth Hub be located? A survey has been created on survey monkey as an avenue for residents to give their feedback into the which site they would prefer was chosen. The survey can be accessed through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KGJN3Y5 Please ensure you are familiar with both sites before completing the survey. For more information on the Youth Hub Site Selection Survey, please don't hesitate to contact Sport and Recreation Officer Dan Purcell on 5775 8529.
