The University of British Columbia in Canada conducted a study of 315 children 9 to 12 years old to measure their degree of happiness in their lives. They were surprised to discover that a major factor to a child’s overall contentment depends on the spirituality expressed by the parents in that home. The lead researcher, Dr. Holder said “from our perspective, spirituality has a whooping big effect on the happiness of children. I would have expected it to be much less.” This findings reminded me of the lyrics of the a very well known hymn that says; Happy the home when God is there, and love fills every breast; When one their wish and one their prayer and one their heavenly rest” When God is present at home and love fills every heart children practice with their parents spiritual skills, such as praying and reading the Bible, which help them in turn cultivate a life of contentment. The second chapter of Luke tells us that when Jesus was 12 years old his parents found him in “ the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother treasured all these things in her heart”. Evangelism News

W e know Cary United Methodist Church is very important to all of

you. Well, YOU are very important to Cary United Methodist Church as well! As we prepare to celebrate the 125th birthday of our church next year, we are currently organizing a new pictorial directory for our church family and we need each of you to be in the new directory! I'm sure you have seen people in church and wondered what their names were. How well do you know our newest members? A new church family directory will help us all with this. And it would be special to have all members in the new directory! There will be no cost to our church and every family or person who is photographed will receive a free 8x10 portrait plus a new free directory. The photographer will be at the church on Tuesday, June 5, Wednesday, June 6, Thursday, June 7, Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9. The hours to be photographed will be 2:30 to 8:50 Tuesday through Friday and 10: to 4:00 on Saturday. Think of what time will work for you and sign up for your appointment before or after church services starting Sunday, April 22, 2012. Please ask at the sign-up desk, or the church office about various coupon offers. The Evangelism committee is very excited about producing a wonderful, current pictorial directory for our church! We are also looking forward to seeing all of you in it. Thanks for doing your part!

of mother who treasured him in her heart. Jesus grew up in a home where he was loved and treasured and where the learning of the Holy Scriptures was practiced. One of the stories my mother would share with us growing up, was of a young welsh girl whose parents instilled in her the love for the Word of God and who later would become the main motivation for the beginnings of The Bible society in Great Britain. Let me share it with you. Mary Jones was the daughter of a weaver, who lived at the foot of Cader Idris, Llanfihangel-y-pennant, Merioneth (north-west part of Wales) near Dolgellau. She was born in December 1784. Her parents were devout Calvinistic Methodists. For as long as she could remember, Mary had wanted to hold a Bible in her hands so that she might read it for herself. For years, she had sat by her father and listened to him tell stories of Abraham, Joseph, David, and Daniel. But her family was far to poor to afford a Bible, even if one had been available, for Bibles could scarcely be found in all of Wales during those days. The nearest copy on sale was in Bala – 25 miles away; and it was not certain that a copy could be obtained there. Having saved for six years until she had enough money to pay for a copy, she started one morning in 1800 for Bala, and walked the 25 miles, barefoot as usual, to obtain a copy from the Rev. Charles, the only one who had Bibles for sale in the area. When Mary arrived to the pastor’s home, Rev. Charles told her that all of the copies which he had received were sold or already spoken for. Mary was so distraught that Charles spared her one of the copies already promised to another. According to tradition, it was the impression that this visit by Mary Jones left on him that motivated Rev. Charles to propose to the Council of the Religious Tract Society the formation of a Bible Society to supply Wales with Bibles.

During this month of May, in which we celebrate our mothers and focus our attention a little closer in our family practices, we encourage you to develop your own spiritual routines. As you maintain this family practice you will see that

(Continued from page 1) each member of your family will gain a deeper understanding of God and your ties as a Christian family will be strengthen. May God bless you and your families. Pastor Shirley
