Wildfire updateThere were 23 new fires in BC on
Monday, and 184 active fires within theprovince (of these, 18 are active fires ofnote), with 8 evacuation alerts/orderscurrently in effect.
The BC Wildfire Service has re-sponded to 887 wildfires so far this sea-son. As of yesterday, approx. 40 homeson Evacuation Order with approx. 920homes on Evacuation Alert.
Human-caused wildfires are prevent-able and the public is BC's first line of de-fence against forest fires. Please bediligent when in the backcountry, and re-port all wildfires to 1 800 663-5555 or*5555 on your mobile phone.

Increasing prices inlight of no taxationof feminine products
Progress was made when the BCprovincial government recognized thatfeminine products are a necessity and avery costly burden for women, and leg-islated that they are to be non-taxablestarting July 2015. Greed became evidentwhen it was brought to my attention thata drug store chain throughout Kamloops (and BC) are raising the prices on all femi-nine products effective July 1. Apparently, the chain reasoned they will take advan-tage and scoop in extra revenue that the government has forfeited since women areforced and used to paying whatever the price. The timing of the corporate policy isstrategic and alarming. I cannot do anything about it except to warn women to beaware of sudden price increases, and shop and move your business to the businessesthat best represent your interests. Now that prescriptions are online, moving to an-other drug store is easy. I am the mother of two daughters and seeing as how thechain is next to other feminine product and drug providers, we are moving our busi-ness elsewhere which we estimate is worth more than $14,000 per year for purchasesof prescription drugs plus over-the counter drugs, vitamins, make-up, some fooditems, hair products, gift cards and gifts, seasonal items, magazines etc (they do notsell clothing).
