CFNV reorganizes‘With on-going budget challenges,
and a tight local market to generate addi-tional revenues from’, the Board of Direc-tors of Community Futures Nicola Valleyeliminated the full-time general managerposition effective April 1st, while re-struc-turing options are being considered.
GM Rob Miller held the position for thelast four years, and brought a community-intensive approach to his job. He quicklygot CF involved with local groups —Tourism Nicola Valley, Canadian CountryMusic Hall of Fame, NV & District FoodBank, NV Community Arts Council —and worked hard to foster communicationbetween CF, the City of Merritt & Cham-ber of Commerce. With Rob’s help, CFstrove to redefine itself after the loss of theCity’s economic development contractand the restructuring of the employmentservices delivery contract, which had beenthe organization’s core activities.
Auditions for ‘Indian Horse’
The Thompson-Nicola Film Commis-sion is coordinating with Citxw Nlaka’-pamux Assembly in Merritt & theTk’emlúps te Secwépemc Indian Band inKamloops, and arranging for a film crewto video tape auditions for the CastingDirector of the movie Indian Horse, basedon Richard Wagamese’s novel.
They are seeking First Nations malechildren, youth and adults ages 6 to 25years for speaking roles of which manywill be required to play hockey in themovie. “There is no charge to be video-taped because we want to help First Na-tions in the Thompson-Nicola region tohave a good chance at being in the film,especially since the movie will be par-tially filmed in Kamloops and parts ofthe region” Robin Smith, Chair, TNFC.
“Several First Nations mothers ofyoung children and young actors haveexpressed a desire to tryout to be in thefilm but found the process challengingand we want to help with that” saysFilm Commissioner Victoria Weller.
“We’re always looking to provide op-portunities for First Nations who live in and around the Nicola Valley” WayneKaboni, Manager of the CNA.
