MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL…
Dear Readers,
It gives me great pleasure to bring you the News
Letter of the Months of September and October
2019. The name and fame of an institute depends
on the caliber and achievements of the students
and faculty members. The role of a teacher is to
be a facilitator in nurturing the skills and talents
of students. This News Letter is a platform to
exhibit the literary skills and innovative ideas of faculty and students. The
DBC Campus Drizzles presents the achievements of students and
contributions of faculty.
On behalf of the Editorial Board, I would like to place on record sincere
gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to make this
effort a success. We profusely thank the Management for their whole hearted
support and encouragement and a free hand in this endeavour. We truly
hope that the pages that follow will make an interesting read.
We proudly publish this DBC Campus Drizzles in order to show to the
outside world, and also to remind the denizens of Boscoites, the progress we
have made so far. We intend to continue presenting the talent and creativity
of our staff and students through this every month.

Co-curricular Assembly – I B.Sc. DPM
The students of I B.Sc. DPM organized Co-
curricular Assembly on 03.09.2019 at DPM Lab
at 12:00 p.m. The Chief Guest, Mr. A.
Manimaran, Assistant Professor, Department
of Digital Print Media graced the occasion.
Power Point presentations on advanced digital
trends, speech, dance, interview, drama and
debate were done by students. The Chief
Guest spoke on ‚Usage of Mobile among
Youth‛ and encouraged students for their
better performance. Thus the programme came to an end with a formal Vote of Thanks.

The Freshers’ Day was
organized for the students of

Chemistry graced the
occasion. Students organized various events, such as Power Point Presentations, Word
Games and Connection Playoffs. The Chief Guest motivated the students to develop their
spoken and written skills by telling a story. With a formal vote of thanks, the programme
came to an end.

Hardware Exhibition – Department of Computer Science
A Hardware Exhibition was organized for all first year
students of our College on 04.09.2019 with an intension
of offering basic computer knowledge. The Chief
Guest, Mr. M. Krishnan, System Administrator,
motivated the students to learn basic computer
components and models. With a formal vote of thanks,
the exhibition came to an end.

Awareness on Consumer Protection Act 1986 – Department of Commerce
The Citizen Consumer Club organized an
awareness programme on ‚Consumer
Protection Act 1986‛ on 04.09.2019 at 11:40
a.m. The Chief Guests were Mrs. A. Banu
Sujatha, MBBS, District Designated Officer,
Dharmapuri and Mr. K. Nandagopal, Food
Safety Officer, Dharmapuri provided a Demo
for adulteration of eatable products. The
Resource Persons addressed on the following
topic: (a) Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, (b)
Eat less salt: not more than 6 gram a day for adults, (c) Don’t skip breakfast, and (d)
Healthy Diets and Good Nutrition. The programme was organized by Mr. D.
Venkatasaravanan, Coordinator.

Teachers’ Day
‚A good teacher can inspire hope,
ignite imagination and instill love for
learning.‛ The Don Bosco College
celebrated Teachers’ day with great
fun and enthusiasm. A special
assembly was conducted by the
Principal, Rev. Dr. A. Siluvai Muthu
on this day. The assembly began with the Prayer followed by the thought and talk
highlighting the contribution of teachers in a student’s life. September 5 is dedicated to Dr.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – the second President of India who was a great academic
philosopher and one of the most well-known diplomat, scholar, President of India and
above all a teacher.

Industrial Visit – I B.Sc. DPM
An Industrial Visit was arranged for the
students of I B.Sc. DPM to Visvesvaraya
Museum, Bangalore on 06.09.2019 with
the guidance of Mr. A. Manimaran,
Department of Digital Print Media.
Visvesvaraya Museum is not a 'museum'
in its classical sense, because it has
interactive exhibits unlike stationary
models of a museum. It is more of a
‘Science Centre’. Each floor of this
museum is dedicated to a scientific discipline. Students were able to learn many innovative
ideas to apply in their learning. After the visit, students made a short visit to nighbouring
places in Bangalore.

The Department of Business
Administration organized an
Orientation on ‚Mock Viva, E-
Mail Writing and Resume
Preparation‛ for the students of
II and III BBA on 10.09.2019. The
Resource Person was Dr. K.
Anand, Head cum Assistant
Professor, Department of
Business Administration. The students were thought e-mail etiquette – how to compose
mail and attach file to the recipient; educated on resume preparation and explained
different types of resume; and conducted mock viva to enable them to attend their project
viva efficiently.

The students of II B.A., I M.A., and II M.A. Tamil
made a visit to Government Museum, Krishnagiri on
18.09.2019 under the guidance of Mr. M. Periyasamy,
and Mr. M. Santhosh, Department of Tamil. The
students had a chance of knowing and learning
ancient status, battle instruments, coins, writings, etc.

Viyalan Vattam – Department of Tamil
The Department of Tamil organized a Seminar on
Viyalan Vattam on 19.09.2019 at Bosco Hall at
10:30 a.m. The Chief Guest was Mr. P. Elango,
M.A., B.Ed., D.M.E., (Rtd.), Vocational Training
Teacher, Thiyagi Subbramaniya Siva Govt. Hr.
Sec. School, Paupparapatti. He spoke about
Tamizhum Thannambikkaiyum. All students and
staff of the Department took participation in the
programme.

DB MUSE: National Workshop – Department of English
The Department of English organized DB MUSE – a one day National Workshop on
20.09.2019 with an aim of providing input on various techniques for handling the learners
of language and literature of the 21st century. It was proposed to invite the faculty members,
research scholars and students of the Department of English to the workshop in order to
promote contemporary theory and grounded knowledge of practices in the teaching of
language and literature. The Chief Guest of the day was Rev. Fr. L. Rajkumar Mervyn,
Rector and Secretary, Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri. The Resource Person of the day was
Prof. N. Arul Doss, M.A., M.Phil., (Ph.D.),
Associate Professor, Department of English,
Sacred Heart College (Autonomous),
Tirupattur. The Keynote Address emphasized
the need of innovative pedagogies and
materials required for teaching 21st century
learners, exposed the teachers to the new
teaching and assessment practices for effective
teaching of language and literature, and
upgraded the skills of teachers to overcome
the challenges faced by them in the language classroom. With a formal vote of thanks, the
workshop successfully came to end.

The students of II M.Sc. and III B.Sc. Physics
made a visit to APM Wind Mill Private Limited,
Aralvaimozhi on 20.09.2019 with the guidance of
Mr. P. Inbam, Mr. R. Muthukumar and Mr. S.
Ramkumar, Department of Physics. The students
learnt about the functions and structure of the
wind mill and the generation and store of
electricity.

Egon Software Pvt. Ltd. (ESL) is a wholly
owned subsidiary of Egon Holdings SA, a Luxembourg based company. Egon Holdings
(EHS) is a privately owned conglomerate with Interests in trading and manufacturing of
Diamonds and Jewelry, Real Estate, Investments, etc. conducting operations in 13 countries,
the Group has built a reputation, for service reliability and professionalism. Students were
able to learn about designing and creating software. After the visit, we made a short visit to
Black Thunder, Mettupalayam.

Professor, Department of Tamil graced the occasion.
Students organized various events, such as Power
Point Presentations, Word Games and Connection
Playoffs. The Chief Guest motivated the students to
develop various subjects’ skills. With a formal vote
of thanks, the programme came to an end.

Awareness on HIV/AIDS – Department of Business Administration
The Department of Business Administration organized on 25.09.2019an awareness
programme on HIV/AIDS that remains
one of the most serious global health
threats of our time. In 2017, 1.8 million
people were infected with HIV, and
940,000 died of AIDS related causes. The
Resource Person, Mr. K. Ulaganathan,
District Supervisor-RRC, during his talk
he shared many facts about HIV/AIDS.
He further spoke that we believe we can
end the AIDS epidemic. Since 2010,
deaths related to AIDS have dropped by 35% in the part of the world where we work. More
people are getting treatment than ever before. By keeping the focus on the needs and rights
of key populations, we have the power to prevent new HIV infections and ensure those
living with AIDS are not left behind. It was a useful talk for us. Finally, Dr. Anand, Head
cum Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, whole heartedly thanked
the Resource Person for his talk.

Movie Presentation – Department of Tamil
To make known the value and strength of historical novels to the students of Tamil, a
historical movie was screened on 25.09.2019 at Bosco Hall at 10:30 a.m. All students and
staff of the Department took participation in the show. Mr. P. Kannadasan, Head cum
Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, briefed about the value of the movie, Bharathi.

An Industrial Visit was organised for the
girl students of II M.Com. to Mysore
Sandal Soap Company and Mysore Silk
Powder Private Limited on 27.09.2019. It
was very useful for the students to do their
research work in effective way and to complete their project within time. Mr. I. James, Mr.
M. Suresh and Ms. M. Ambika, Department of Commerce, were present with students
during the programme.

Industrial Visit – III BBA
An Industrial Visit was organised for the students of II BBA to Anna Aluminium Company
Private Limited, Kochin on 27 and 28.09.2019. The students were guided by Mr. V. Gobi,
Assistant Professor of Business Administration. Anna Group started out as an aluminum
products manufacturer over
43 years ago, and expanded
into other sectors such as food
and spices, textiles and more.
Anna Group has always been
focused on expanding its
possibilities through diverse
products and brand portfolio.
From fast selling Aluminium utensils to much-in-demand anodized aluminium extrusions,
Anna Group is consistently developing its potential. It was very useful for the students to
learn about the history, developments and products of prolific industry and its research
works.

The Students of III B.A., I M.A. and II M.A. English participated in a One Day National
Workshop on Literary Explorations and
Critical Interventions organised by the
Department of English, Sacred Heart
College (Autonomous), Tirupattur on
September 27, 2019 (Friday) from
09:30 AM to 04:30 PM. The Keynote
Address was delivered by Dr. S.
Samuel Rufus, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D.,
Associate Professor, Department of
English, Madras Christian College, Chennai. The Workshop was dynamic, reliable and
useful to every other who participated in the programme.

Palm Seed Germination – National Service Scheme
The students and officers of National Service Scheme oragnised a camp on ‚Palm Seed
Germination‛ on 27.09.2019 at the
Campus of Don Bosco College of
Education and Research institute,
Dharmapuri. The volunteers were
welcomed to germinate about 500
palm seeds in and around the
College campus. Though many
species of palms are sturdy and
plentiful, as many as 100 species are
endangered due to deforestation and
unsustainable cultivation practices, such as for the heart of palm, which comes from a part
of the tree that cannot be re-grown. The Administrator, Rev. Fr. D. Samson Shanmugam
appreciated the intention and hard work of the NSS students and officers.

Blood Donation Camp – RRC, YRC and NSS
A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the officers and students of RRC, YRC and NSS
on 29.09.2019 at College Campus. A team of 3 doctors and 8 nurses of Government Medical
College and Hospital, Dharmapuri came for collection of blood. The Principal of the
College, Rev. Dr. A. Siluvai Muthu enlightened the students with his words and
encouraged donating blood for saving lives. The NSS officers and faculty members were
also present at the occasion. There was an overwhelming response from students and other
donors a total of 91
units were collected
in the camp. Some of
the donors who
could not donate this
time were assured
for donation in the
next camp. A
Certificate of
appreciation,
donation card, and
refreshment was
given to each donor as a token of gratitude. A special gratitude was offered to the General
Manger and officials, HDFC Bank, Dharmapuri for their timely motivation and
sponsorship.

Film Festival – Department of Digital Print Media
The Department of Digital Print Media organized Film Festival on 01.10.2019, in order to
capture our history, extraordinary growth and bright vision for the future. Students were
given three different topics and asked to
choose any one of the topics and prepare a
movie for 10 to 15 minutes. The topics
were Today’s Politics, Sports, and Future.
The best short films are awarded by the
Chief Guest, Mr. S. Tamil Selvan. The
main objectives were to increase the
students’ creativity by mingling them
with the current society needs the trends
and this was intended for improving their
skills in technology and aimed at learning how to work with a group and identify them as a
good leader. The programme came to an end with a formal vote of thanks.

Business Administration
The Department of Business
Administration organized Management
Games for all students on 03.10.2019. The
Chief Guest, Rev. Dr. A. Siluvai Muthu
graced the occasion. We organized several
management games in order to build team
spirit and refresh the minds of students. It
brought lots of enthuse among students.

Industrial Visit – III B.Sc. Mathematics ‘A’ & ‘B’
An Industrial Visit was organized for the students of III B.Sc. Maths (A & B) to Karunya
University, Coimbatore on 05.10.2019 under the guidance of Mr. J. Magesh, Mr. K.
Chandran and Ms. M. Chirsty, Assistant Professors, Department of Mathematics. About 55
students made a visit to
learn mathematical
insights from the
Department of
Mathematics, Karunya
University. Our students
were guided into various
levels and advances to
gain Mathematical
knowledge and
industrial exposure. The following day, we journeyed to Botanical Garden, Ooty. We
visited places like tea estate, telescope view, and flower garden. It was a useful visit.

An Industrial Visit was
organized for the
students of II M.Sc. and
III B.Sc. Chemistry ‘A’
& ‘B’ to Indian Institute
of Astrophysics,
Kodaikanal on 05 and
06.10.2019. About 80
students were
accompanied by Mr. B. Moorthi, Mr. K. Vijay and Mrs. S. Manimegalai, Department of
Chemistry. We were shown different pictorial
displays supported by few models in the
Astronomy Museum. A live solar image and
Fraunhofer spectrum were also presented.
They gave general education about
astronomy, night time telescopic sky viewing
and chromospheres Calcium K indices.
Furthermore, all of us observed the explanation of interpretation of the morphological
changes of metals, vector magnetic fields, digitized photographs for long term studies,
ionosphere, electrojet and hourly observation of surface temperature, pressure, rainfall, etc.
After the visit, we went for sightseeing in Kodaikanal.

Staff Refreshment Programme at Goa
Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri
organised a Staff Refreshment
Trip to Goa from 11th October
2019 to 15th October 2019,
whereby 87 staff were given the
opportunity to experience the
exquisite French culture. The staff
with their family were fortunate
enough to visit various beaches.
The staff visited the historical monuments that helped them to learn about the history of
Goa. The highlights of the trip were the visit to
Anjuna Beach, Palacio Aguada Fort, Calangute
Beach in North Goa and Miramar Beach, Shri
Mangeshi Temple, Basilica of Bom Jesus,
Archaeological Survey of India in South Goa. A
visit to Archaeological Survey of India enthused
the staff and they profusely enjoyed the thrilling
rides and special attractions of amusement park
and the historical museum.
The 3 days stay in the heart of Goa helped the
staff to savour the rich cultural heritage and
modern lifestyle of different culture.
Accommodation at Goa was excellent. It is worth
mentioning that the rich South Indian Food was
served daily
deliciously.
With the Coordinator, Mr. G. Sankar, Assistant Professor,
Department of Tamil and his team, the Principal of the
College, Rev. Dr. A. Siluvai Muthu, SDB, planned,
commanded and navigated the trip with prayer,
intelligence, knowledge and excitement which
had a ripple effect on all of us. His
unconditional gestures of responsiveness,
fatherly care and wellbeing were unanimously
appreciated by all. Though the itinerary had
clarity of plan of action, he was flexible and
receptive to the needs and excitement of the
staff. With perpetual traveling and disciplined
time schedule, staff not only got a well-planned
and conclusive programme but also ended up
learning life skills of adjusting to the provisions.
Beautifully said, ‘all we need to acclimatise into the ever changing scenario is to realise a
sincere heart and develop trust.’

Internal Quality Assurance Cell Meeting
Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) meeting
was held in the College on 22.10.2019 at 12:00
p.m. as a Quality Sustenance Measure. The
Paramarsh Accreditation Ambassador, Dr. Joe
Jesudurai; Mentors, Dr. Scholastica Mary
Vithiya, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. S. Uma
Mageshwari, Additional Coordinator, Auxilium
College, Vellore; and IQAC Members of the
College were present at the meeting. The
Principal of the College, Rev. Dr. A. Siluvai Muthu offered a cordial welcome to all. Under
the headship of Dr. Joe Jesudurai, the IQAC Members of the College were guided to
develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the overall
performance of institution, and to
channelize all efforts and measures
of the institution towards
promoting its holistic academic
excellence. The meeting was
coordinated by Mr. S. Vadamalai,
Assistant Professor, Departtment of
Computer Science. With a formal
Vote of Thanks by Mrs. G.
Leelavathi, Assistant Professor,
Department of English the meeting came to an end.

Salesian Educative Pastoral Council
Salesian Educative Pastoral Council was organised on
22.10.2019 at Bosco Hall at 04.00 p.m. The Council
was presided over by the Rector, Rev. Fr. Rajkumar
Mervyn, SDB. Rev. Dr. A. Siluvai Muthu, SDB,
Principal of our College, Deans, PRO, COE, Heads of
the Departments were present at the Council along
with the invited Catholic Sisters, Staff, Past Pupils,
Parents and Students. At the outset, Rev. Fr.
Rajkumar Mervyn, SDB, extended a warm welcome
to the gathering. The Council was apprehended in order to promote the Salesian Educative
Pastoral Plan alongside our teaching and learning aspects, and also to introduce the
prescribed Salesian Educative Philosophy to the society through students. Rev. Fr. Rector
shared the significance of the entrusted
Salesian mission and it has an open
door to receive the young people to
propagate the unfailing love and
diligent works of St. John Bosco to the
underprivileged and marginalised
people.
Mr. M. Periyasamy, who coordinated
the event, read the minutes of the
previous council. Subsequently, Rev.
Fr. Principal presented a report on
developments done in the past academic year.
Many people from the gathering came forward to share their thoughts to strengthen the
existing Salesian Educative Pastoral Missions of Don Bosco in Dharmapuri Dist. All
suggestions were recorded and will be executed in due course times. With the concluding
words by Rev. Fr. Rector and a formal Vote of Thanks by Mr. M. Periyasamy, Assistant
Professor, Department of Tamil, the Council came to an end with tea party.

Individual Mobile Phone for Officials
The Management has felt the need and importance of providing Mobile Phones for all the
officials (starting from Principal, Vice-Principal, Administrator, PRO, Officials, HODs,
Office Manager, Class Mentors and
Securities). The initiation and
allotment of mobile phones to the
staff is meant for the welfare of
students and to have an easy contact
with office, management and
students. It was implemented on
24.10.2019 for 91 persons. The
Management was acknowledged and
heartily thanked for this new venture
towards enhancing better student-
staff services.
