Mrs Seymour (Senior) and the Lioness Club of Mooloolaba have been donating books to Ravenshoe State School for three years. She cannot leave a good book without someone to read it. The new design is super exciting and will feature an acknowledgement of local indigenous art designed by Mr Anning. The final design will be shared with the school community after the holidays. The shirt will be ready for 2021! Finally, have a great break with your children over the school holidays. Relax and spend time together enjoying our wonderful area! Message from the Secondary Deputy PrincipalDear Parents/Carers,

Mid-year holidays start at the end of this week. We look forward to returning to school in Term 3 for a fresh start, and, hopefully, much less disruption and uncertainty. We have some staff members returning to school as well as some new staff coming on board. We welcome Angela Fleming (HPE and Science) and Ben Oren (Humanities) to the secondary campus as well as Lindsay Russell who is taking on the P-12 Guidance Officer role.

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 Reports will be issued at the end of Week 1 in Term 3. We will advise of upcoming opportunities for parents/ carers to meet with staff for further feedback on student academic progress, effort and behaviour.

Year 6 Transition

In Term 3, we will begin our Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Program. This will involve a Parent/Carer Information Evening as well as 2 full day visits to the secondary campus and 2 half day visits over the course of Semester 2. Students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the secondary campus and its routines as well as engage in a variety of junior secondary subjects, and meet secondary students and staff. We are excite to start this transition journey with the Year 6 students!

Positive Behaviour for Learning and Awesomes

In preparation for 2021 and the introduction of the new Student Code of Conduct, we have been conducting a review of our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) systems and practices. Our Awesome reward system where students are issued Awesome tickets for displaying safe, respectful learning behaviours at the secondary campus will be undergoing a “ticketless” trial from the start of Term 3. Staff will still acknowledge student who exhibit appropriate safe, respectful, learning behaviours but this will be tallied by staff on a template and recorded as data for the purposes of rewarding students weekly, per Term and at the end of the year (as per the existing Silver and Gold accumulation system). We will still host a Silver Awesome draw each term and a Gold Awesome draw at the end of the year.

We continue to issue Super Awesome and On Track awards weekly on Parade, and this week saw a huge number of students recognised for their efforts across Years 7-12. Weekly celebrations of student effort and achievement is a key part of our PBL acknowledgement system and assists students in recognising when they have done well, in order that they endeavour to repeat these most desired behaviours.

Friday Fun Days

Over the last two weeks, we have hosted a Celebrity- themed Friday and a Book/Movie Character-themed Friday. This week, we will come dressed for Football- a much-requested theme! These days have certainly helped to keep staff and student spirits high to get us through the term. Thanks to all who got involved in this Friday Fun.

Take care of your families over the break and stay safe.

Regards,Jessie CairnsSecondary Deputy Principal

News from the Primary Deputy Principal

Dear Parents/Carers,

A huge thank you to all the parents/carers, teachers, teacher aides, admin staff, cleaners and grounds staff for all their amazing resilience, support and encouragement during this very challenging term of schooling. Together we have continued the education of all of our students and tried to keep a level of normalcy in very trying and unprecedented times. It is a credit to our community.

As we head into winter school holidays, we wish all our families a safe and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing you in Term 3.

Lost Property

We have a large collection of lost property in our lost property bin located near the drink water taps under A Block. If you know your child has lost an item, please ask them to check lost property. Most of the items are not labelled with a name. This makes it impossible for staff to return the item to the student. Please ensure that you label your child’s belongings to assist with this process.

Report Cards

We will be sending out a Semester 1 Report Card in week 1, Term 3. This report will look a little different to normal reports as we will only be reporting on English, Science, Maths, HASS and Music due to interruptions in learning from Covid-19. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Deputy Principal on 40975 22 to discuss.

Headlice

We have several cases of head lice. Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat their hair if head lice is detected. Staff will notify parents/carers if students attend with head lice.

Flashing lights now active at Ravenshoe State School (Secondary Campus)Flashing light school zone signs will be installed on Moore Street. Ravenshoe State School P-12 was nominated to receive these new signs as part of a Queensland Government commitment to improve school road safety.

You will notice that the new signs look similar to standard school zone signs with the addition of a red flashing ring around the speed limit as well as two flashing yellow lights at the top of the sign. The installation of flashing light school zone signs is proven to improve visibility of school zones, serving as an active reminder for motorists to slow down.

So next time you’re dropping off or picking up your child, keep an eye out for the new signs and make sure you stick to the signed speed limit.
