    MOE COS 2020

  • We will make Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) more current, comprehensive and experiential.

    • Mental health will be explicitly taught in CCE • Students will also go through key student development experiences beyond the classroom, such as new cohort Learning Journeys to the National Museum and Asian Civilisations Museum

    • The learning of moral values will be deepened and taught through cultural stories, songs, idioms, and proverbs unique to each Mother Tongue Language

    • Form Teacher Guidance Period will be broadened to include topics related to National Education and citizenship

    PRIMARY SCHOOL:

    • Contemporary issues such as bullying, online media, and race and religion will be discussed in classrooms at least once a fortnight

    SECONDARY SCHOOL:

  • We will help our students understand Asia better and be equipped to take on new opportunities

    from Asia’s growth.

    • Humanities curriculum, including Social Studies, History, Geography and Economics, will be enhanced for a deeper understanding of Asia, including ASEAN

    • A 10-hour language and cultural exposure component will be included as part of pre-trip preparation for students. This includes the provision of digital learning resources for Thai and Vietnamese

    • 70% of IHL students will participate in overseas exposure programmes, and 70% of this group in turn will have exposure to ASEAN, China or India. This will double the current proportion of local IHL students who go for regional exposure programmes

    SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND PRE-UNIVERSITY:

    INSTITUTES OF HIGHER LEARNING (IHL):

  • We will power up digital literacy via the National Digital Literacy Programme to develop tech-savvy students.

    • Cyber wellness will take up 50% more time on average during CCE lessons

    • Each Secondary One student will own a tablet or laptop (personal learning device) by 2024 to enhance their learning. All eligible Singaporean students will receive an Edusave top-up of $200 to help pay for the device (in addition to last year’s $150 top-up). Those from lower income households will receive more subsidies so that the out-of-pocket cost is $0

    PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL: SECONDARY SCHOOL:

    • We will enhance baseline digital competencies, so students will develop competencies such as computational thinking and data competencies

    • Coverage of digital and AI competencies will be deepened for students entering sectors ripe for AI adoption (cyber-security, logistics, manufacturing and finance)
