The Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) is the Victorian government’s legislated target for renewable energy generation, aiming for25% of electricity generation to come from renewable sources by 2020 and 40% by 2025. The VRET Reverse Auction called for bids from renewable energy projects through a formal Request for Proposal to support achievement of these targets. This included up to 550 MW of large scale, technology neutral renewable energy, and up to 100 MW of large scale solar-specific renewable energy.

As a result of this process, the Mortlake South Wind Farm has been awarded a 15-year support agreement with the State Government.

As part of the auction process, ACCIONA will contribute to the Victorian Government’s Major Project Skills Guarantee, ensuring local apprentices, trainees and engineering cadets will work on the project.

There will be opportunities for local suppliers to get involved, with ACCIONA committed to working with government and industry to promote tenders, making as much use as possible of local skills and promoting economic growth in the state.

Transmission lineACCIONA has taken on board community feedback regarding the proposed transmission line route and is investigating alternative connection options. These include connecting to existing transmission infrastructure or potential underground options to minimise the impact on the local community. We aim to have a resolution on the transmission line soon and will communicate this accordingly.

• Finalising documentation to satisfy the conditions of the Planning Permit. Every permit comes with a number of conditions that need to be met before the project can start construction. This involves preparation of a range

Other benefit sharing programs

ACCIONA is committed to improving the social and economic platform of the region and sharing the benefits as widely and equitably as possible to deliver fair outcomes. One aspect of a suite of shared benefits offered by ACCIONA will be the ‘Neighbourhood Benefit Program’. The Neighbourhood Benefit Program will involve a gift card scheme which will be open to eligible residents closest to the Mortlake South Wind Farm.

Eligible recipients of the gift cards will be able to use the cards to purchase goods and services at businesses which agree to be involved in the program within the Mortlake, Noorat and Terang areas.

Key benefits of the gift card program:• Keeps money within the designated

towns• Promotes local businesses• Strengthens community engagement• Allows communities to support their

local businesses

We believe the implementation of the gift card program will encourage recipients to

purchase their goods and services locally rather than travelling out of the local community.

Further details about the program will soon be available on the ACCIONA website.

If you are a local business within the area of Mortlake, Noorat or Terang and are interested in being involved in the program by allowing residents to spend their gift cards at your business, please express your interest by emailing [email protected]
