School Fete

Don’t forget that the school fete will be upon us very quickly once school resumes so please support the Parents’

Associa#on and the school by a=ending the fete on October 16. Any help and support you can provide before-

hand or on the day will be greatly appreciated.

Sun Smart

We are a Sun Smart school and we expect everyone to wear hats whilst outside during Terms 1 and 4 when ex-

posure to the sun can be damaging. Parents are asked to ensure that their children have their school hat with

them when they return to school next term. Students who do not have a hat will have to stay in the undercover

area or under the shade sails.

Final assembly this Friday

Just a final reminder about the final P-4 assembly which will be held on Friday in the BER building and the light

lunch that will be available from approximately 1pm, also in the BER. As men#oned previously it will be an op-

portunity to formally farewell and thank Alison Storr.

Happy holidays!

I hope you all have a very safe and enjoyable holiday period and we will see all students again on Monday 5 Oc-

tober refreshed and ready to commence Term 4. There is, of course, very li=le #me remaining for students in

Year 12 and others studying Unit 3&4 subjects so it is most important that part of the holiday break is used to

consolidate the learning and prepare for a successful exam period. Subject teachers have outlined their expecta-

#ons, including a number of prac#ce exams and sessions to be held at school but it is up to each individual stu-

dent to ensure that they do what is required. Success at VCE doesn’t come without hard work and commitment

and the next six weeks or so are cri#cal to that success.

A reminder that school finishes for the end of Term 3 at 2.30pm on Friday 18th September

Procedure for Mortlake College Bus Passes

A friendly reminder about students wanting to travel on a bus and other buses:

• Parents/guardians must contact the school not later than one school day prior to request the travel.

• If seating is available, a bus pass will be sent home with the child.

• The bus pass must be signed and dated by a parent/guardian, returned to the school office on the morning of the travel arrangement.

Please note that bus passes may be requested in the week prior to the travel but cannot be approved if made on the day the travel is requested.

It is important to keep in mind that we cannot always guarantee a pass as it is dependent on the seating capacity of each bus.

We thank you for your assistance.

GRAND FINAL BREAKFAST - WEAR YOUR FOOTY COLOURS

Students have the op#on of wearing their footy colours on Friday 18th

September, there

will be breakfast available in the undercover area from 8:00 – 8:55 , the cost will be:

$12:00 per family $5:00 per secondary student or $4:00 per primary student

Thank youP-4 Team

Dear Parents

School Council has approved the introduc#on of a ‘so.-shell’ school jacket which can be worn both in and out

of class and on school excursions.

An official school jacket was first discussed in the context of a very cold winter and students wan#ng to wear

jackets in class that were not part of the school uniform.

Samples of the so.-shell jackets were taken to the senior student leadership team and they were very enthu-

sias#c about them and felt that the student body across the school would be equally enthusias#c.

School Council discussed the jackets and they also felt that they made a great addi#on to the school uniform.

There are a number of op#ons regarding the embroidery of a house name and a student’s name so please

consider those prior to placing an order.

Regards Graeme Good—Principal

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH

Taine DeManser-Taine always participates in the extra

curricular activities at school with enthusiasm whether it is in the academic, sporting or public service domains. He was rewarded for his efforts in the recent interschool debating team where he was awarded the 'Overall best debater' for the Year 5/6 level. He actively participates in school sporting activities and any oppor-tunity he is offered he grabs with both hands. His recent contri-bution to the breakfast program has been phenomenal. Without being asked he helps cook, serve and clean up. He is a very val-uable contributor to the breakfast team.

Spurs Lynch - : His outstanding achievement was for staying

back in the Library at lunch#me and packing up all the games that had

been le. out and sca=ered by other students who had been playing

with them.

He is always polite and well behaved during lunch#me Library sessions.

AFL 9s

On Monday the Years 3 and 4 students went to the Leura Oval in Camperdown to partic-

ipate in the AFL 9s.

The rules for AFL 9s are; you cannot tackle, if a girl kicks a goal it’s 9 points but if a

boy kicks a goal it’s still 6, you have to stay in your own third – forward, centre or back.

Six schools turned up and there were 16 teams.

We would like to thank the Year 8 and 9 boys who umpired and give a special thanks to

Mr Boyden for helping to run it.

WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH

5TH TO 30TH OCTOBER 2015

Mortlake College will be participating in the Walk to School month

Walk to School month encourages primary school stu-dents to walk, ride or scoot to and from school throughout October to build healthy habits for life. Walking to school helps children get the physical activity they need each day to be healthy. Children and their parents are encouraged to start walking to and from school on the first day of term 4, and keep it up each school day throughout October.

Children need 60 minutes of physical activity every day: national guidelines recommend that children aged 5-12 engage in 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day (Australian Gov-ernment Department of Health, 2014)

Parents can find out more and sign their child up online at www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au, or download the free Walk to School app to record each walk in October and be part of the state-wide effort.
