Term 3 - Week 8—5th September 2018
Principal’s Report
Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews next Tuesday
Just a final reminder about Parent/teacher/Student interviews next Tuesday 11th September, commenc-
ing at 12pm and concluding at 7pm. Thank you to all those families who have made their interview book-
ings so far. Please keep in mind that bookings are open up un%l 10am on the day of the interviews and as
I have men%oned in recent weeks, it would be fantas%c to see all our families represented at the inter-
views. It is a really important opportunity for a three way conversa%on about each child’s progress to
date. Don’t forget if you are experiencing any difficul%es making your interview bookings or don’t have
internet access, the office staff are only too happy to make these bookings for you. No classes will be
held this day.
P-4 Producon - Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19
th September
Don’t forget that %ckets for the P-4 Produc%on of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ are on sale at the school
office. The performance is now only a fortnight away with the ma%nee to be held on Tuesday 18th Sep-
tember, commencing at 12:00pm and the evening performance to be held on Wednesday 19th September
commencing at 7pm in the BER building. The children are busily preparing for the concert and are looking
forward with great an%cipa%on to the performances.
NAPLAN results
The 2018 NAPLAN results for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 have been released and are being sent home
with the students on Wednesday. As stated on the student report, it is important to keep in mind that
the NAPLAN tests ‘provide a snapshot of your child’s achievement at a point in %me. The informa%on
contained in the report should be considered together with school-based assessments and reports.’ If
you would like to discuss your child’s results the Parent-Teacher interviews next Tuesday provide a great
opportunity to do so.
School Formal for Years 8-12
As announced last week the senior student leadership team are organizing a school formal for students in
Years 8-12 on Wednesday 12 September in the BER. The students received the good news late last week
that the Moyne Shire are subsidizing the event and therefore a DJ will be able to be u%lized on the night.
The evening will commence at 6:30pm and conclude at 9 pm. The theme for the night is 80s and students
are encouraged to wear appropriate 80s dress. The evening will conclude at 9pm sharp and parents/
guardians are required to pick up their children at that %me.

Congratulaons
Special congratula%ons to Jaime and Tasha Killen on
winning the Hampden League Best & Fairest Netball
awards in the Under 16 and Under 14 compe%%ons
respec%vely. Jaime and Tasha play for Terang
Mortlake and both obviously had stellar seasons!
Well done to Jaime and Tasha.
Congratula%ons to all the Years 5-7 students on a
very successful Expo last Friday. The students fo-
cused on a par%cular Asian country as part of their SOSE studies and for the expo each individual or
group had a ‘stand’ where they provided informa%on about their chosen country. They also provided
samples of food associated with their country. Well done to everyone on a very informa%ve and inter-
es%ng expo!

New Zealand Camp 2019 Families of New Zealand campers please note.
We are in the process of securing airfares to New Zealand next year.
We have secured a very good rate and I am expec%ng to confirm this and pay for these fares by the end of
this week / start of next week. Once these fares are paid for we will not be able to process any refunds of
the deposits that have been paid.
As a result, I would like to remind all families of the importance of taking out travel insurance to cover any
emergencies. Please ensure you follow this up as soon as possible.
Addi%onally I now NEED passport informa%on urgently. Can I ask that a colour copy of each photo page
from each traveler be sent in so that I can pass on the necessary informa%on to the airline.
Also please remember that the next payment of $550.00 is due no later than Wednesday 19th September
2018.

Year 3/4 Grampians Camp (29th August – 31st August).
On Wednesday morning, 42 eager Year 3/4 students arrived at school packed and ready for camp. AKer pack-
ing the bus will all our gear, we set off for the Grampians. Arriving at a liHle aKer 11am at the Grampians Re-
treat, we took %me to set up our rooms before par%cipa%ng in some ini%a%ve ac%vi%es in small groups, ro-
ta%ng through a number of interes%ng ac%vi%es. Later that aKernoon we took on the challenge of climbing
“The Piccaninny”, where the views of the countryside were spectacular. That night the students entertained
the teachers and parents with a talent night, where in groups, they undertook challenges set down by Mrs
Carmody.
AKer a cold start on Thursday, the morning sky threatened us with rain, but thankfully it stayed away. Our
morning and early aKernoon consisted of three challenging ac%vi%es, the Giant Swing, the Flying Fox and the
Low Ropes course, all students challenged themselves with these ac%vi%es. The rest of the aKernoon, was
dedicated to a Hut building exercise. Next was the spooky night walk, where groups students with an adult,
completed a course by following a reflector trail around the camp, this was hard for some students, but all
completed it.
Our Final day consisted of, packing up our rooms before par%ci-
pa%ng in a tug of war contest, then we finished our %me in the
Grampians with a relaxing River walk, and nature experience ses-
sion. While on camp, we saw a huge amount of wildlife, includ-
ing Kangaroos, Emus, Wallabies, and many, many more.
A huge thank you must go to Mrs Carmody for organising the
camp, as well as Mr Kea%ng, Cherie, Uggie Fowler and Miss Le
Lievre for aHending as staff.

This session aims to help parents talk about safety, rela%onships, and personal development to
their children at the right ages. The night will cover when to start these conversa%ons, how to
have these conversa%ons and the up-to-date informa%on around these conversa%ons.
It will also include an insight into the school curriculum for personal development and loads of
resources that can help with this important paren%ng role.
This session is relevant to parents of all aged children –
from kinder to secondary school and is appropriate for
Mum’s, Dad’s, Carer’s and Grandparents.

SAME-DAY NOTIFICATION OF UNEXPLAINED STUDENT ABSENCES
FACTSHEETFORPARENTS/CARERS
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to no%fy their school as soon as possible on the day of absence using
one of the following methods:
Online: log the absence directly using your school’s IT plaTorm. (Skoolbag)
Telephone: the school office and let the staff know your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason.
Email: the school and provide the staff with your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason.
No%fying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps en-
sure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
Why do I need to nofy the school if my child is absent? Schools need to know when and why a child is absent and you need to know if your child isn’t at school.
From the end of Term 2 2018, all Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as
prac%cable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a par%cular day and you
have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.
This system also promotes daily school aHendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of
your child’s educa%on, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
What is your responsibility?
let the school know in advance of any upcoming absences or let them know in the morn-
ing if your child won’t be at school. In order for schools to implement the same day no%fica%on requirement, it’s es-
sen%al that you provide the school with your most up-to-date contact details.
Generally one no%fica%on will be sent per family. Should there be circumstances that require both parents and carers
to be no%fied, please contact the school to make the necessary arrangements.
What is the school’s responsibility?
The school must no%fy you of an unexplained absence in rela%on to your child as soon as prac%cable on the same
day.
Schools will let you know either by your school’s online communica%ons app, SMS, phone call or email.
Ask your school for a copy of the Aendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for moni-
toring, recording and following-up of student absences.
