President’s Message Hello again everyone,
I am starting my message with a very big
thank you to all the volunteers in our club;
our Social Committee and the Program
Committee being prime examples.
Thanks also to Stan, Bruce and Brenda;
we are all benefitting from a variety of
great speakers organized by these folks.
And special thanks to Brenda Cutler who
did a fantastic job while the Management
Committee chair persons were away.
I’ve heard much praise for the Bee
presentation in January and although
there was a storm going on in Feb, I was
pleased at the turn out for Ian Simpson
who put on an entertaining presentation.
I would also like to welcome all of the new
members to our club.
Last but not least, thank you Jean Finkle
for making the lunch bunch such a great
success.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT
ONTARIO AGRICULTURE VENTURE CENTRE
Fourteen enthusiastic PROBUS Presquile members gathered at the “Big Apple” for a
delicious lunch before making our way to our tour of the newly opened “Ontario
Agriculture Venture Centre”.
“The Big Apple”
Mr. Joe Mullin, the General Manager, and his son Steve greeted us all upon arrival.
After a brief introduction session, we proceeded inside the facility.
Inside, awaited a very impressive set up with innovative pieces of equipment.
This facility is available to anyone for a nominal fee and provides an opportunity for
the entrepreneur and ordinary folks to test and develop their wares.
Joe will be our “Guest Speaker” at our April 20th PROBUS General Meeting so please
mark this on your calendars as an event “not to miss”.
The Social Committee is planning to organize another tour in the Fall.
Ontario Agriculture Venture Centre
ISLAND GETAWAY DANCE – “POTLUCK DINNER”
The Second Annual Island Getaway Dance and Potluck Dinner took place on
Saturday 27th February at the Brighton Curling Club. Again it was a resounding
success with some 40 or thereabouts would be teenagers again, strutting their stuff
across the dance floor to great music. Preceding the dance, a Potluck dinner and
Dessert was enjoyed by everyone. The venue was ideal; offering the ideal space for
dancing, eating and providing the social environment that our club is all about.
I am sure that the repeat and new attendees to this 2nd Annual Function will be
marking this on their calendars for 2017 … hoping the readers of this summary will
do the same. Well done to the Social Committee and all involved that made this
event a great success.

Time for a Coffee Break
An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final
requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes
scattered over Wal-Mart. "Wal-Mart?" the preacher exclaimed. "Why Wal-Mart?"
"Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week "
LUNCH BUNCH:
Following the February 17th Monthly General Meeting, the Lunch Bunch Group

PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT - FEBRUARY RECAP
February’s Topic: From Brighton to Broadway!
Presentation By: Ian Simpson – “Actor – Vocalist - Dancer” Background:
A native son of Brighton who has enjoyed a spectacular career in the performing arts
throughout Canada & the United States. His resume is extensive as we all witnessed
at his highly entertaining presentation at the February meeting.
He concluded his presentation by delighting us all with his singing voice; albeit no
one was really sure whether he was singing in Swahili, Welsh, Gaelic or Klingon; it
could have been any of these. He was extremely friendly and very approachable and
our club was very fortunate to have been entertained by him.
Many Thanks to Ian for a very informative and interesting presentation.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT - MARCH
Our March 16th speaker is Mr. Bruce Davis who comes to us from the
Brighton Health Services Centre where he serves as Treasurer. Bruce will
bring us up to date with the history of the Centre and speak to its current
situation.
The Brighton Health Services Centre was incorporated in 2002 “to operate a
community health care centre by providing medical, health and support services to
the general public".
The Centre currently houses a Family Health Team, a YMCA fitness facility, an
Ontario Early Years Centre, a satellite Community Care Access Centre, and a social
services "hub" for the County of Northumberland.
The Centre operates as a landlord to these service providers. It continues to meet
the changing facility needs through rent subsidization and Community Health Grants
to ensure that these important services continue to be sustainable …”
FROM THE EDITOR
Hello Folks,
I don’t have a great deal to say this go around except to ramble on just a little bit.
First a gentle reminder that Mark Cullen is in town on March 9th to share some of his
gardening wisdom with us all. I respect his knowledge tremendously, as does my
wife, which undoubtedly means projects galore when the frost is gone – so, from
many of the husbands in Probus - Thanks a lot Mark.
This one is for your Grandkids. When I was a child I received an Electric Train Set for
Christmas and it was certainly a high tech toy for its day. My interest in Model
Railroads lasted well into my teens when I handed it all to a nephew. In later years I
retrieved the major components of my trainset and passed them on to my son when
he was very young. To this day he still has these relics, all in working condition, but
has added to the collection with old and new, sourced from the UK and EBay. He’s
now almost 48 years old but the interest remains. Within our group, I am sure there
are others that have fond memories of their first Train Set.
Revisiting my childhood, I recently shared a website with 2 of my Grandsons that
displays possibly the “Largest Model Railway and other Modelling Masterpieces”
in the World.
This enterprise was started by 2 brothers in Germany several years ago and has
grown and grown. Other modelling clubs have joined the brothers, bringing
craftsmen and all their skills to the party. A Restaurant, a Bakery and Snack Bar
have all been added and this enterprise now receives over 1 Million visitors annually.
Please share the link below with your Grandkids and also the kid still within yourself.
I believe that you will be truly amazed, as I was.
GERMAN WONDERLAND link below – AMAZING

That’s all folks … See you all at the March 16th General Meeting.
Don - Newsletter Editor
A man is sitting reading his newspaper when his wife sneaks up behind him and whacks him on the head with a frying pan. "What was that for?" He asks. "That was for the piece of paper in your trouser pocket with the name Mary Ellen written on it," she replies. "Don't be silly," he says, "Two weeks ago when I went to the races. Mary Ellen was the name of one of the horses I bet on." His wife seemed satisfied at this and apologized. Three days later he's again sitting in his chair reading when she nails him with an even bigger frying pan, knocking him out cold. When he comes around he asks, "What was that for?" "Your horse phoned!"
