am honored to welcome you, on behalf of the Alliance of Automotive

Service Providers of New Jersey, to our association’s flagship event:

NORTHEAST 2014. As we celebrate our 37th year of NORTHEAST,

it is hard to think back to the humble origins of the show. Thirty-seven

years ago, AASP/NJ put a few tabletops together in a small conference room

at a local hotel, and now here we are all this time later with the preeminent au-

tomotive services trade show in the region. Wow.

I don’t think I am overstating when I say that this year’s show will be the

best we have ever had. NORTHEAST 2014 offers something for everyone:

From our annual NORTHEAST East Coast Resolution Forum & Leadership

meeting, must-see PartsTrader panel discussion and Know Your Numbers

seminar on Friday to Saturday’s full slate of seminars and I-CAR classes

(along with a very special guest signing appearance by the one and only Chip

Foose on Saturday) to Sunday’s annual Family Day activities.

NORTHEAST 2014 will surely fill your weekend with the very best in

education and information. Add to all of that a sold-out show floor full of

exhibitors offering deals on just about every piece of equipment and service

necessary to succeed in our industry and...well, I think you get the idea. For

this weekend, there is simply no other place to be.

Thank you to all of our vendors, presentors

and everyone who has helped make NORTHEAST

the success it has become. Enjoy the show!

THE AMATO AGENCY Thanks to longtime AASP/NJ benefitproviders the Amato Agency, a number ofGarden State body shops now have a lotmore money in their bank accounts. An independent insurance agency lo-cated in Neptune, the Amato Agency spe-cializes in securing affordable insurancefor the independent business owner. Thecompany's special "safety group" programprovides annual dividend checks to partic-ipating shops if the group's total loss ratiois better than anticipated by the insurancecompanies at the time of premium devel-opment. The less claims the group files, the more money the group will make. Andwhen the end of the year rolls around, thatmoney goes right back into the pockets ofthe body shops.

"Our plan is only as good as ourmembers," explains Amato Agency Presi-dent Joe Amato Sr. "As our pool of premi-ums increases and our losses continue tostay low, we have a much bigger pot fromwhich to pool our dividends." Since joining AASP/NJ in 2001, theAmato Agency has provided associationmembers with a series of outstandingmembership programs, including its popu-lar Disability Income Insurance Program. “Our retention has been better than95 percent,” Amato says. “When peoplebuy a policy from us, they stay with us.” In addition to offering a popular work-ers’ compensation program that providesAASP/NJ members with 20-percent up-front discounts, the Amato Agency alsoworks hard to help shops navigatethrough the often-confusing world ofhealth care. As Amato says, “We represent all themajor health insurance carriers in thestate of New Jersey. We can sit with ourclients and evaluate a good, solid healthinsurance program that can keep the costdown and still provide quality benefits forthe insured.” Most recently, the Amato Agencykicked off a new program that providesdiscounts for personal automotive andhomeowners insurance for employees ofAASP/NJ members. Employees can re-quest a rate quote on auto insurance, aswell as gain information on the AmatoAgency’s many services, by contactingthe agency at (800) 763-6574 or by goingto www.amatoagency.com. CAR-PART.COM Car-Part.com displays the used partsinventories of over 4,100 auto recyclersacross the USA, Canada and Mexico, to-taling over 130 million parts on thewww.Car-Part.com search engine. Thewebsite allows auto recyclers to make iteasy for collision shops, mechanics, corebuyers and retail customers to find thebest part for their vehicles based on con-dition, location, availability, brand andprice. Car-Part.com was created in the mid-1990s by an auto recycling family and thepresident of an Internet development andWeb-hosting company. The auto recyclerswere frustrated by the proprietary natureof their inventory management system;the systems on the market excluded bodyshops and repair facilities, and also ex-cluded auto recyclers who did not share

the same management system. Since1998, Car-Part.com has developed over20 software products to help auto recy-clers manage their inventory as well asbuy and sell their used parts, which en-ables them to run their businesses moreefficiently and productively. Car-Part.com is unique in that whilebeing a software development firm, thecompany is also a recycler and operates asalvage yard at its headquarters in FortWright, KY. As a result, the company usesthe same software in their own recyclingfacility that it sells to recycler customers.www.Car-Part.com is a public website,so mechanics, dealers and the generalconsumer can search recyclers’ data-bases and contact them to coordinate thepurchase of used auto parts. POLYCRACKER Polycracker is located in Boonton,NJ. For more than 25 years, the companyhas been a provider of specialty chemi-cals for the removal of wax, grease, sili-cones and Armor-All from surfaces toprepare them for fisheye-free coatingsand painting. Polycracker was the first tointroduce a water-based chemical in thisindustry and is still the #1 choice. Most fisheye problems are caused bypoly-silicone, the ingredients in all oftoday’s most durable paint protection sys-

tems and waxes. Successful refinishing oftreated vehicles requires removal of alltraces of these chemicals – Polycrackerwas designed to do just that. Plus, Poly-cracker completely removes oil, grease, lubricants, fingerprints and dirt. Fisheye eliminators are the not theanswer. Adding fisheye eliminator to allpaint jobs – “just in case” – can causemajor problems down the road, becausefisheye eliminators contain some of thesame ingredients as the waxes. Addingfisheye eliminators to paint can make thepaint compatible with the wax, but using itcan create adhesion problems, or waxresidue accumulation. Clearcoats are even worse. Usingeliminator in single stage top coats is a

remedy that can be pulled off, but usingthe chemicals in primers or the basecoatsof two- or three-stage finishes can be haz-ardous. Using eliminator may help you getthe base on, but when you apply theclear, you could get thousands offisheyes. When that happens, your onlychance of saving the job is by addinglarge doses of eliminator to the clearcoat. This can mean countless small fisheyesthat you will later attempt to color sandand buff out. By doing so, you’re riskingslippage (adhesion problems) down theroad. The simple solution is to eliminatefisheye at its source. Use POLY-CRACKER before sanding and beforepainting to ELIMINATE fisheye for good!
