**Slidell Police Searching for Missing
14-year-old**Slidell Police is asking for the public’s assistance with locating missing 14-year-old, Jania Washington.Jania was last seen a week ago on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, around 4:30 p.m., leaving Slidell High School. Law enforcement authorities believe that Jania is in the Slidell area, but could potentially be in New Orleans. Slidell Police believe that Jania could be in danger considering the fact she is only 14-years-old, however, foul play is not expected at this time.Jania is approximately 5’2” tall, weighs 125 pounds, has a dark complexion, and has long, wavy black hair. During the last couple of weeks, we have seen an increase in vehicle burglaries in our shopping center and restaurant parking lots. Some are unlocked doors, but these thieves have been more brazen and are now busting windows. Every car they break into have valuables in plain view! Example: purse, wallet, cell phone, cash, iPad, laptop, etc. Slidell Police detectives are currently investigating these burglaries, but in the mean time, please help us by: locking your doors, hiding your valuables from plain view, and by being vigilant.

Get Ready to Get Really Dirty in November

Saturday’s statewide election results produced few surprises as most state officials were reelected with little challenge to their incumbent status. Most local races came out the same, with the exception of two sheriff’s races, one in St. Tammany Parish, where the incumbent was forced into a runoff with Slidell Chief of Police Randy Smith and in Plaquemines, where incumbent Lonnie Greco lost outright to Jerry Turlich.
The gloves haven’t really come off in St. Tammany, where incumbent Jack Strain fell a few percentage points short of winning another four year term in the primaries. The gloves may not come off during the four week runoff campaign, especially if Strain receives the endorsement of Scott Illing, the newcomer to political office, who came in third. If the endorsement goes the other way, it could be “game on” in St. Tammany and things could get nastier as the Sheriff’s race heads towards Thanksgiving.
No such ‘make nice’ scenario will be expected as the two gubernatorial candidates, Senator David Vitter and Representative John Bel Edwards, meet in a Democrat verses Republican showdown. Vitter carries the baggage from his prostitution scandal and mea culpa while Edwards is a Democrat in a very Republican state. However, viewing the past six governors of this state, both the Democrats and Republicans have embarrassed and failed us, ending with 3rd string Presidential candidate Bobby Jindal and beginning with the first term of office of Edwin Edwards. Neither of the current prospects are what might be considered ‘statesmen” candidates, but then again, when have we really had a candidate of that caliber?
So, it’s the Amite former veteran and attorney verses Vitter, he of national prominence and notoriety. If you value keeping your clothing clean, do not venture between these two camps until Thanksgiving. Oh, it’s been a long time since Louisiana had a political delegation that struck fear, fascination and respect into the rest of the nation. And it probably will never come again,looking at the immediate horizon of political hopefuls. Hold your noses, Louisiana, and decide which medicine you will take come November 21st.
On a sports note, the World Series began with a matchup not destined to create record viewing numbers. The Kansas City Royals return to the Series while the New York Mets make their first appearance since 2000. The Mets last won the Series at the expense of the Boston Red Sox, who were still under the Curse of the Bambino. That was in 1986, but the Red Sox came through twice this century and won two Classic titles. The Mets beat sports most cursed team, the Chicago Cubs, 4 games to none, to reach the Series this year and earlier beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, baseball’s most cursed postseason team of the modern era. With a lineup loaded with overpaid, underperforming players, the Dodgers won their third straight Western Division title and then choked again as Los Angeles, led by baseball’s finest 1-2 pitching punch (on paper, during the regular season), could not advance for the fourth time since their last title in 1988. That’s 27 years, well before the first hint of social media, convenient cellphones, affordable and powerful personal computers and the Kardashians. Things are pretty bleak, sports-wise, in L.A., where the Lakers, Kings, UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans are just out of the top tier in their respective sports or way out of it.
Meanwhile, the LSU Tigers will have to clean up some sloppy gridiron play if they expect to beat Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa November 7th. This is not Saban’s best team, despite having perhaps his strongest and deepest defensive line during his tenure. But the Tigers show high vulnerability in virtually every aspect of special team play and at safety and they are thin at quality linebackers, blocking tight ends and offensive tackles. it will take every bit of LSU’s will to win at Bryant-Denny next week and they have the talent to do so. But will they have the discipline and mental toughness?

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DIGITAL ASSETS WHEN YOU DIE?

Increasingly, we are spending a lot more time online, whether for business, personal, social, and/or entertainment reasons—usually it’s some combination of all of these. Depending on your situation, you may have vast digital content, mementos, communications, etc. These are assets that would be in tangible form if not for technological advancements.What happens when we die with these digital assets? Estate and inheritance laws still haven’t caught up to the growing number of digital assets, but there are some things you can do to incorporate these items into your estate plan.
Password Protection and Estate PlanningThe issue with digital assets is that much of this content may be password protected, hosted by private corporations, or generally hard to access if you are not around. While digital asset protection is meant to protect your privacy, it becomes more difficult for your executor/heirs to access and use these digital assets after death. And, many of these assets are going to be subject to the terms and conditions of specific websites and companies that require your agreement when signing up for a particular service.
WHAT ARE DIGITAL ASSETS?Digital assets are anything that is not in tangible, physical form. Most people have a number of digital assets, just a few examples are: Email accounts Subscription services Music and video assets Picture and document storage Gaming assets Social media contentAs technology advances, many more of our assets will be digitized. While this often makes our lives more convenient, it presents unique issues when it comes to estate planning as digital assets are replacements for physical assets which would have historically passed in physical form via a will, trust, or intestate. But because of the realities of the extensive use of digital medium, these assets are now subject to any number of contracts and conditions.What Happens To My Facebook Account When I Die?Social media attracts millions upon millions of users. Based on statistics alone, many users will die with active accounts. Current laws, however, are mostly unprepared on how to handle these non-physical assets. So what does that mean for my digital assets? Well, first, you have to look at what your goal is.If I pass away, I want my account with a particular website to be: (1) saved; (2) deleted; or (3) transferred to another person. Now, this may differ depending on each service/account. This will also depend on terms of use for each of the services. For example, Facebook has a program where you can request your account to become a memorialized account for you or you can request deletion of your account.
Can I Estate Plan for Digital Assets after Death?Right now, beyond working with every company where you have a digital account, estate planning may have a major effect on how your digital assets are distributed. Estate plans, however, may not have all of the answers for digital assets. As mentioned above, digital assets are often governed by contracts with a specific provider. Some states have laws in place that allow digital assets to pass easily, but at this time, most do not.
So What Do I Do?
The best practice for digital asset management is to take a three-pronged approach:
1. Check The Provider’s Terms Of Use/Terms Of ServiceIf the provider has a plan in place for your digital assets after death, it is best you comply with those procedures to make sure you are achieving your particular goal with that particular account.2. Add Language To Your Will/TrustWhile this is largely untested in the courts, adding language that specifies your wishes with each of your accounts is a good idea. The law in this area is in flux, so make sure you have an estate plan that includes your digital assets. By doing so, you give the executor of your estate the legal tools they need to enforce your wishes. 3. Check Your State LawsState laws are also just popping up when it comes to digital assets. Making sure your estate plan is consistent with state law is very important. Also, the state law may have an effect on your terms and conditions and terms of use with your service provider.
The law still hasn’t caught up with our digital lifestyle, but with proper planning your digital assets can be protected by your estate plan. Properly managing these assets requires more work but with the importance of digital assets is growing every year, so protecting them properly is critical.

No tricks, no treats: That bowlful of candy is for trick-or-treaters, not for Scruffy and Fluffy. • Chocolate in all forms—especially dark or baking chocolate—can be very dangerous for dogs and cats. Symptoms of significant chocolate ingestion may include vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, increased thirst, urination and heart rate—and even seizures. • Candies containing the artificial sweetener xylitol can be poisonous to dogs. Even small amounts of xylitol sweetener can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar, which leads to depression, lack of coordination and seizures. In cases of significantly low blood sugar, liver failure has been known to occur. • Ingesting tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can pose a choking hazard or cause intestinal blockage.
2. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins & decorative corn are considered to be relatively nontoxic, yet they can produce gastrointestinal upset should pets ingest them. Intestinal blockage could even occur if large pieces are swallowed.
