Joseph & the Amazing

Technicolor Dreamcoat

186 pupils, from Years 1 through to 8,

took to the stage in this flamboyant,

energetic and upbeat production.

Throughout the performance the cast

thrilled the audience with superb singing

and dancing, psychedelic costumes and set. Joseph had a magnetic

‘stage presence’, the hippy styled narrators sang their lines with

clarity and confidence and the brothers were charismatic and

filled the stage with energy.

There were so many delightful details to cherish at the time and

fondly remember afterwards: the camel arriving in sections at the

beginning of Poor, Poor Joseph; the dancing hobby horses in the

Country & Western themed One More Angel in Heaven; Potiphar’s

Gatsby-style residence with its cleverly-choreographed battle

between Joseph and Potiphar’s man-eating wife; the darker num-

ber Close Every Door with the arrival of a multitude of visitors

carrying atmospheric little candle lights; the explosion of sound,

movement and colour as the actors break into dance on Go, Go, Go Joseph; the interval singing and dancing of those vibrant ‘mini-

dreamers’; the King (Elvis/Pharaoh/Sebastian Milbank)’s white-

suited crooning; Those Canaan Days’ Gallic café/cabaret culture

with Breton tops and an impressive can-can dancer (India); the

visual spectacle in Grovel, Grovel as Joseph stands in the back-

ground while his brothers “grovel, cringe, bow, stoop, fall, worship,

beg, kneel, sponge, crawl”; the Mexican twist to the Caribbean Ca-lypso; the chariot of gold, a.k.a a VW Camper Van.

However, the most powerful, resonant highlight of this production

was the spectacle of the entire cast appearing on stage at the end

to perform the Joseph medley. It was a fitting finale and allowed

us a wonderful moment to reflect on this impressively arranged

feast of sight and sound.

Middle School News……

Well done to all the children in Years 3 and 4 for a wonderfully

hard working, positive and fun term. I was so proud of them all in

the two performances of Joseph and although there are many

tired children, it was definitely worth it! Well done to everyone

involved. It is amazing what can be achieved with time, practise

and talent.

We had our final celebration assembly of the term and well done

to William Wright, Ilyssa Hills and Molly Warren who received

certificates for courtesy and good manners.

A reminder that Year 3 and 4 are going to the School Farm and

Country Fair on Thursday 21st April. I will write a letter nearer

the time with full details of the day.

I wish you and your children a very relaxing holiday. Please do

encourage your children to read a little every day and perhaps

leave a little time to practise their times tables too.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

News from The Library……

The school library has quickly

become a popular place for the

children to come and spend some

quiet time enjoying all the new

titles we now have available.

It was lovely to welcome the Reception children into

the library for a special Thursday afternoon story.

They were captivated as Lottie (Yr 7) read ‘Claude in

the City’. The children then spent some time happily

looking at all the beautiful picture books.

Thank you to everyone from

Years 5-8 who have volunteered

to be Librarians. All the children

are incredibly keen to help

organise the books and to make

recommendations!

obh.mail Boarding News….

With excitement building last week for Joseph, we had two

super birthday parties which created lots of enthusiasm with

the Year 7 and Year 6 boys in the boarding house.

Barney Anderson and Sam Collins celebrated their big days

with pizza and party food. This was followed by the custom-

ary screams when the cakes were cut. These screams rivalled

the screams by the Year 5 and 6 girls for ‘Elvis’, or should I

say ‘Pharoah’!

The week before last, Vivian Wang had her birthday party at

OBH, and she had an amazing time with all of the Year 7 girls.

She was kind enough to let her friends choose her cake,

which was a big yummy chocolate cake!

It has been an action packed term and we hope you find time

to rest and recharge your batteries during the Easter break

ready for the Summer term.

Dates for the Diary:

Saturday 23rd April: St George’s Day celebrations – board-

ers to come dressed as knights, dragons or fair maidens for

an evening of duelling and medieval festivities.

Sunday 24th April: Jimmy’s Farm – a tour of Jimmy’s Farm in

Ipswich followed by making and tasting all kinds of different

sausages. Please ensure you have wellies and warm clothes.

Have a lovely holiday and see you all again next term.

obh.mail Pre-Prep & Nursery

Dear Parents,

We have enjoyed our week in Pre-Prep and have been very busy

with lots of rehearsals, activities and class work.

Our school production of Joseph was a huge success with our

lovely Y1 and Y2 children as star singers and dancers. We have

lots of tired children but a wonderful experience for them all.

We have been involved with lots of Easter activities in class this

week, including making stained glass style crosses, Easter egg

decorating, colouring and Easter cards. Thank you for taking the

time to make Easter bonnets and hats at home. The children

looked amazing and we really enjoyed our day.

Congratulations to all our Stars of the Week this term!

Thank you to all parents for your continued support.

Have a peaceful Easter break.

obh.mail Woodbridge Cross-Country Nine pupils travelled to Woodbridge School last

Sunday to compete in the East Anglian Prep Schools

Cross Country Championships.

After registration we all walked the course to familiarise ourselves with

the route for the relevant age group. Maisy Webster and Primrose

Ackroyd-Cooper were first to run in the U12 section. Both got off to a

great start and looked comfortable. There were 33 girls competing in this

age group and the girls came 18th and 15th respectively, great running!

Our U12 boys ran immediately after the girls, Ted Pryke,

Barnaby Anderson and Harry Bidwell were competing

against 33 boys. Ted ran hard and finished 18th, Barney

21st and Harry finished an amazing 10th. Charlie Bidwell

and Jasper Ackroyd-Cooper were running in the U11

section against 39 other runners and finished 31st and

28th.

The U10 boys closed the morning of running and OBH

had Edward Marsh and Freddie Ackroyd-Cooper

representing them. This age group had the largest number of competitors

of 47, both Edward and Freddie ran well and crossed the finish line in 39th

and 36th position.

All of the children showed great

determination and worked hard over the

difficult course; it was a really enjoyable

morning. Thank you to all of the parents who

supported the children and provided us with

amazing chocolate brownies!!!

obh.mail And finally………

The Lent term is always the most challenging at any school. The excitement and anticipation of

Christmas has gone, the glorious long sunny summer evenings are yet to arrive and there is a huge

amount of work to be done. That the school has reached the end of term and is still so vibrant and

buzzing says a great deal about the energy and enthusiasm of both pupils and staff. The quality and

quantity of academic work that has gone on throughout the term has been very pleasing, as has the

progress each child is making. The variety of awards and school entrance successes already achieved

provides strong external evidence of this, but the real evidence is inside each classroom every day.

To further enhance the strong team at OBH, I am delighted to announce that Lorna Wakerell will be

joining us in September as our new Head of Pre-Prep. Lorna has a great deal experience in both the

Pre-Prep and middle school world. She joins us from Moreton Hall and was appointed after coming

through a very rigorous three day interview process. She was the outstanding candidate and will lead

the Pre-Prep extremely well over the coming years. I am also pleased to announce that Alex Thurlow

will be joining the Girls’ Games department in September. Having been a Director of Sport at both

Ipswich and Culford Schools, she brings a depth of experience and current playing knowledge to OBH

and we very much look forward to welcoming her to the team.

Continuing on the sporting theme, the term is, of course, not quite over for many of our Year 7s and

8s who will be off to the Netherlands next week to take part in a hockey tour. I am sure that all

those going will represent the school and themselves well and will enjoy the experience immensely.

Finally, I would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone involved in Joseph. The children all

worked their socks off and deserved every bit of applause they received. I hope that they

remember the experience for many years to come. Nothing brings a community together like a show

and to see the extraordinary efforts of the whole staff body to support them and allow them to

perform as they did, says everything about the entire OBH community. It is such an honour and a

genuine pleasure to be part of such a special place.

Thank you for all your support over this last term and have a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break.
