OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS TO ADDRESS THE CONCERNS BROUGHT FORWARD
BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS
As these activities take place, access to the Landfill Site will be limited from August 27 to October 1, 2018. The
landfill Site will still be open to members on Wednesdays
and Sundays as usual. Access on any other days will not be permitted unless arranged with the Public Works
Department.
As a reminder to all who use our Landfill Site;
Please throw your garbage in the hole and not left on
the edge Please load your scrap metal into the Bin. Don’t leave
it on the ground
Please dispose of your wood waste material in the
proper area Please don’t smash your electronics to go for
recycling, place them by the recycle building or inside
Please remove your tires from rims before putting in
tire pile Please put your Household Hazardous waste by the
Recycle Building or in it.

The Pikwakanagan Sports & Recreation Department evening Watersport Program is done
for the summer season.
The Tuesday and Thursday evening program held at Randy’s Campsite will return again next
summer; we hope you have all enjoyed the use of our water equipment!
Anyone interested in using the canoes, kayaks or paddleboards during the month of September can
contact the Makwa Centre and check on availability. Lending hub forms will still have to be completed prior to taking the equipment out for
loan. You will have to pick up equipment and return to the Makwa Centre.

Summary
The Clerk/Receptionist is responsible for providing reception services for Pikwakanagan’s Administration Office, receiving and distributing information using various communication strategies.
Basic Requirements:
Grade 12 Diploma with one year experience in the administrative field; OR two years of work experience in the administrative field that included reception services.
Computer experience that includes internet and software applications such as MS Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook.
Valid Driver’s license and access to a dependable vehicle.

HARVEST MONITORS NEEDED
If you are interested in being a Monitor for this year’s harvest, you must provide your name to Taylor Ozawanimke, Employment Officer at 613-625-2800 and inform her that it is for the;
“Harvest Monitoring Positions” Monitors will be posted in various locations entering Algonquin Park to collect information on persons
entering and leaving the park. (Information is only for safety reasons and collecting information on the harvest.)
The Monitor will prepare and provide reports to the Harvest Department as requested. Monitors must have access to a dependable vehicle, a valid driver’s licences and car insurance. Rate of pay will be $15.00 per hour plus a gas allowance to travel to their post.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Prostate cancer is the #1 cancer in men. Prostate cancer starts in the prostate, a gland located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. When it is diagnosed early, prostate cancer is curable. Many doctors used to consider prostate cancer in older men to be just part of the normal aging process, and the disease was largely ignored, except when it struck younger men. Now there are newer, better treatments for prostate cancer, and many men who have or had prostate cancer at any age are leading active, productive lives.
Here are some Symptoms to look for:
Urinary problems – weak urine stream, difficulty initiating urination, stopping and starting during urination; urinating frequently, especially at night, pain or burning with urination. These symptoms are also often associated with noncancerous enlargement of the prostate, called benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH.
Blood – in the urine and semen.
Pain – in the hips, pelvis, spine or upper legs.
Difficulty – getting an erection, pain or discomfort.

NATIONAL NATIVE ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE PROGRAM (NNADAP)
What is a residential treatment centre for First Nations People?
NNADAP and Health Canada have 49 funded First Nation residential treatment centres throughout Canada which focus on the healing and recovery of substance use disorders by providing care in a live-in treatment centre, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Length of treatment cycle vary from centre to centre, however most are 4 – 6 weeks in length.
Residential treatment is a combination of intensive therapeutic services, Anishnabe cultural teachings and ceremony offered by residential treatment centres which accommodate people to treat a variety of concerns regarding substance use disorders. These centres are in place to provide safe, effective, evidence-based care for First Nations people who have experienced profound negative consequences from issues related to substance abuse and addiction. In NNADAP treatment centres individuals have the opportunity to address the 4 aspects of our lives which include; mental, emotional, spiritual and physical with certified addictions counsellors, cultural coordinators, Elders and mental health professionals. The vison is to offer First Nations people a quality cultural healing journey.
If you have thought about reclaiming or working towards healing, balance and recovery or to gain the skills necessary to heal from addiction, please contact Alex your community NNADAP Addictions Worker to discuss your options and to begin your treatment planning.
The Wanaki Centre in Manawaki, QC next available treatment cycle begins on November 5th- December 7tht, 2018. The Wanaki Centre which resides on Algonquin Territory in Kitigan Zibi is also the closest NNADAP treatment centre to Pikwakanagan. Treatment planning, the application process and the acceptance approval does take time and I am here to help you get started.
