It refers to the controversy generated by land acquisition ofthe proposed nano factory of Tata motors in Hooghly district.

Tata motors started constructing a factory to manufacturetheir $2500 car, which agitated the farmers and other landowners.

Tata was ruling out an acquisition of 997 acres out of which

was the most of the land belonged to Farmers. Main reason behind the controversy was the most of the

farmers livelihood depended upon the land throughcultivation which resulted in the removal of the Tatas setupin Singur.
