Primary PE and Sport Premium 2017-18 Impact at Fixby J & I School

Sports Premium Funding 2017-18 = £18,650

National Vision of the Grant A measurable and sustained improvement in school PE and sport, underpinned by high-quality teaching that increases participation levels in physical activity, and leads to healthier pupils who are more engaged across the whole curriculum.

How to use the PE and sport premium Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

Page 2: Primary PE and Sport Premium 2017-18 Impact at Fixby J & I School · 2019-03-27 · Primary PE and Sport Premium 2017-18 Impact at Fixby J & I School Sports Premium Funding 2017-18

Key achievements to date: Areas for further improvement in 2017-18 and baseline evidence of need:

The percentage of Year 6 pupils able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of 25 metres has been significantly above the Local and National Average for the past 4 years.

Year Fixby JIN School

Kirklees Council National

2014-15 95.1% 80.3% 55%

2015-16 95.4% 85.3% 52%

2016-17 95.1% 85% 52%

2017-18 97.6%

We have continued to use Sport Premium funding to maintain our membership of the Pennine Sports Partnership – allowing our pupils to participate and be successful in local sports competitions,

inter -school events, festivals and celebrations.

It has also enabled us to identify pupils with talents within a range of sporting disciplines and encourage them to develop their performance levels.

To increase the percentage of pupils who can perform safe self-rescue when they leave Year 6.

To research/trial new approaches within the school day to ensure that pupils are active for 30 minutes - to meet Government guidelines.

To offer a wider breadth of after school clubs which promote activity and a healthy lifestyle. To identify pupils that do not participate in active/health related afterschool clubs and actively encourage them to do so.

To continue to provide CPD opportunities that create sustainability and a staff team that that can deliver high quality teaching in all areas of the PE curriculum.

To investigate/purchase curriculum resources that enable pupils to receive the best possible teaching and learning opportunities and enable them to gain a sound understanding of the need for a healthy body, mind and lifestyle.

A positive experience of sport and physical activity at a young age can contribute to a lifetime of participation. Unfortunately, a negative experience may narrow perceptions of sport and put someone off forever.

“Opportunity for children to take part in and develop a love of sport and physical activity is vital to ensuring long-term enjoyment and participation. “Provision for children and young people will rightly sit at the heart of a new strategy for sport in this country. We want to see healthy, happy active children becoming healthy, happy active adults and the talented primary school children of today becoming our sporting stars of the future.”

EDWARD TIMPSON MP Minister for Children and Families Department for Education – Sporting Future Strategy

At Fixby J&I school we are determined to fulfil Government plans for getting young people active and we are committed to the development of competition across school and into the local community.
