A farmer was having his lunch on the front porch when a squawking hen dashed around the corner with a rooster in hot pursuit. As the chook dashed down the porch, a few crumbs of bread fell from the farmer’s sandwich and the rooster stopped to gobble them up while the hen got away. “Strewth!” exclaimed the farmer, “I hope I never get that hungry.”

HAPPY MEMORIES

My Mum used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread butter on bread on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning..

Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake or at the beach instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

We all took PE ..... and risked permanent injury with a pair of tennis shoes instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors that cost as much as a small car.

I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now. We got the cane for doing something wrong at school, they used to call it discipline yet we all grew up to accept the rules and to honour and respect those older than us.

We had 30+ kids in our class and we all learned to read and write, do maths and spell almost all the words needed to write a grammatically correct letter....... FUNNY THAT!!

We all said prayers in school and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention. We also learnt our times table by reciting them every day. I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations. We weren't!!

Oh yeah ... and where was the antibiotics and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played “King of the Hill” on piles of gravel left on vacant building sites and when we got hurt, Mum pulled out the bottle of iodine and then we got our backside spanked.

Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10 day dose of antibiotics and then mom calls the lawyer to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family.

How could we possibly have known that?

We never needed to get into group therapy and/or anger management classes.

We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac!

How did we ever survive?

LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA, AND TO ALL WHO DIDN'T, SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING!

MOVIE CLUB

Our last movie for the year is 'American Hustle' on Thursday, 19th December. Meet at 9.30am for 10am start. Please say Manningham Boomers Club to obtain your movie at a reduced price. ***************************************************************** TEACHER: Harold, what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?

HAROLD: A teacher.

The Secret of a Happy Marriage

My wife and I have the secret to making a marriage last. Twice a week we go to a restaurant, have a little wine, some good food and companionship. She goes Tuesday and I go Fridays.

We sleep in separate beds. Hers is in Sydney and mine is in Melbourne.

I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.

I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. “Somewhere I haven’t been for a long time” she said. So I suggested the kitchen.

We always hold hands if I let go she shops.

She has an electric blender, electric toaster, electric breadmaker, and now she said “Too many gadgets and no place to sit down”. So I bought her an electric chair.

Remember marriage is the number one cause for divorce. Statistically 100% of all divorces start with marriage.

I married Miss Right; I didn’t know that her first name was ‘always’.

The last fight was my fault. My wife asked “What’s on TV?” I said “Dust’.

In the beginning God created Earth and rested, then he created Man and rested. God then created Woman. Since then neither God nor Man has rested. (Cannot remember who gave me this for fill-in and whether it was male or a female with sense of humour – Ed)

TENNIS

As we have only been going for three months the only new member was Guy Tuddenham. He has played twice, Bob Anderson. Beverly Wignell, Pam Walker, & myself play most weeks ! Ray Walker played a couple of games not since his shoulder operation though the rest of our players are from outside our club, we won't be playing in January but resume again in February! We have been averaging about 6 - 7 players per week and getting a good game in. Please note there will be no tennis in January.

EDITOR’S NOTES

Please continue to send items to [email protected], and if possible remember that the font we

use is Arial, size 9. The deadline for the February Newsletter is Friday, 29 January, although anyone wanting to send in

material before that date is welcome to do so. This edition of the newsletter has been printed at Officeworks as the electoral

office of Matthew Guy, Member for Bulleen, is closed for the holidays. When I receive material via email, I will acknowledge

receipt as I open it. If an activity is not updated by the convener, it will disappear. The deadline timeframe is not

negotiable. If anyone has general interest material that can be used to fill in reasonable sized spaces in the newsletter, please

forward it to me and I will hold it in an emergency folder.

TEA ROSTER

The tea roster does not obligate anyone; it is just a guide to help

spread the load. Supplies are arranged. You need to be at the

hall at around 9.00am to set up and help serve during Fellowship

then clean up afterwards. Please bring two tea towels to dry the

dishes. There is an A4 sheet headed “Fellowship Tea Roster

Duties” in the box with the tea and coffee, explaining what has to

be done. If you are physically unable to carry out the roster

duties, please let us know and we will take your name off the list.

If you are unable to attend on your rostered day, please phone

Adrian or Anne.
