C M Y K COVID-19: Maintain safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing Staff Reporter Port Blair, Oct. 28 The A&N Administration today launched an online portal to facilitate consumers in e-filing their grievances as per the new Consumer Protection Law. With the launch of this portal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has achieved the distinction of becoming the third State/Union Territory after Maharashtra and Delhi to introduce this facility. The Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs in coordination with the team of NIC (HQ), New Delhi and Project Coordinator, CONFONET Project, State Unit, NIC, Port Blair has developed this dedicated portal for e-filing of consumer grievances wherein the consumers can lodge their complaints or grievances on online portal i.e. https:// edaakhil.nic.in. Expressing his happiness on the launch of this facility, the President, State Commission Justice Debi Prosad Dey said that electronic e-filing of complaints is a real and effective instrument in dealing with the complaints relating to consumer matters. He expressed his gratitude to A&N Administration for New Delhi, Oct. 28 Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh has said that the Government is committed to facilitate the Army in their forward movement on the road to reforms and will help them in a c h i e v in g advantages in all areas. Addressing the Army Commanders' Conference in New Delhi today, he said, the initiatives undertaken by the Indian Army in the current s e c u r i t y environment makes him proud. Shri Singh asserted that the Government will leave no stone unturned to strengthen the Armed Forces. Milad-un-Nabi holiday to be on Oct. 31 Port Blair, Oct. 28 The Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) has cautioned those indulging in sale and use of banned plastic carry bags in Port Blair city. It has been observed by the Council that post COVID-19, most shops and establishments including street vendors are using the banned plastic carry bags. It may be noted that the Andaman & N i c o b a r Administration has imposed complete ban on use, storage, i m p o r t , manufacture, transportation, distribution or sale and disposal of some of the single use plastics and plastic carry bags respectively, irrespective of thickness, size, colour, and nature in the entire A&N Islands except the bags & other products made out of 100% compostable/ biodegradable in nature & duly certified from Central Pollution Control Board. During the recent raid conducted by the enforcement team of PBMC, 374 kgs of banned single use plastics were seized and an amount of Rs. 26,400 as fines have been imposed on v a r i o u s establishments. Meanwhile, Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) has once again appealed to the shops & establishments including street vendors & coconut vendors, not to use single use plastic items such as carry bags & straws and has also urged the general public to cooperate towards making the city ‘plastic free zone’, a press release from Secretary, PBMC said. Port Blair, Oct. 28 For holistic development of horticulture crops in A& N Islands, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme - Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) is being implemented by the High Value Agriculture Development Agency (HVADA) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture. Under MIDH, various Sub Schemes are being Holistic development of horticulture crops in A&N Islands Financial assistance under National Horticulture Mission to boost productivity implemented viz. N a t i o n a l Horticulture Mission (NHM), C o c o n u t Development Board (CDB) and National Horticulture Board (NHB). Under NHM, financial assistance are Port Blair, Oct. 28 In a bid to stop illegal activities in South Andaman District, a surprise field visit was carried out by the D e p u t y Commissioner (SA), Shri Suneel Anchipaka along with SDM (SA). During the inspection, it was found that seven persons were engaged in illegal mining of stones at Bimblitan village using excavator. The DC (SA) directed to take strict action against the violators and the excavator was seized on the spot. It is to mention that during the lockdown period, fine amounting to the tune of Rs.15,90,000/- has been imposed against various violators who were involved in various cases of illegal mining in South Andaman District. The District Administration is taking all possible steps to curb the menace of such illegal activities and strict action will be initiated against violators. The sportspersons or his/ her family in distress having no source of income or have income of less than Rs.8 Lakhs per annum from all sources and such other circumstances as may be considered by the Committee (Ministry of Youth affairs & Sports) to be i n d i g e n t circumstances are eligible for availing financial assistance under the scheme. As per the scheme, a sum of upto Rs. 5 Lakhs each will be provided as assistance to Sportspersons living in indigent circumstances and to families of deceased sportspersons. This much needed online portal will makehelp people to file complaints by sitting at their home and they neednot visit the Consumer Commission Office, thus saving their precioustime and money.
