1. Istiqlaal

She started her racing career with James Owen and had a first run last year in Wolverhampton. She is back in training and will run again in the UK this season. Her dam KAARINE started her racing career in France at 3. She won the Prix Nevada II on debut and then finished very close second in the Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes, now given a Group 1 status. She joined Doug Watson’s stables in the UAE in 2005 and won twice and was also placed 4th in HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Triple Crown Round 3 (Gr.3 PA) in Abu Dhabi.

KAARINE has produced seven foals of racing age:- TATWEER (Bibi de Carrere): trained by Gill Duffield, he was a winner in the UK, - MUROOJ (Madjani): trained by Ali Al Rayhi, winner in the UAE, now retired. - AL MURJAAN (Al Jakbar): multiple winner in Sweden. - MADANY (Al Saoudi): in training with James Owen, winner in the UK. - MAHAASEN (Madjani): trained by James Owen, winner in the UK, now retired. - RAAQY (No Risk Al Maury): in training with Phil Collington.

MADJANI Chestnut – born in 2000 – by Tidjani x Salama by Sibawaih Crowned Horse of the Year in the UAE in 2005, 2006 and 2007 Winner of 13 races from 17 starts (1,600m – 2,200m) in UK, Europe & U.A.E. The only colt to win three Kahayla Classics (Gr.1 PA) with total prize money £525,382. He was the 2017 Leading sire in the UK by number of wins, and the leading sire in the USA and the UAE in 2017. Sire of Shadwell Arabian stallions: HANDASSA (standing at West Kington Stud in the UK) and TAAJER (standing in Italy) and Stakes winners, Al Zahir and RB Frynch Broad.

2. Al Faaris

A winner last season and a good second at Dubai International Arabian Race day at Newbury.

Al Faaris started his racing career in France, with Damien de Watrigant. He raced 6 times in France and Spain at 4.Back in the UK at the end of 2016, he joined James Owen’s yard. He raced 6 times in the UK in 2017: he won in August, at Windsor, and was placed 4 times, including a second place at Newbury on Dubai International Arabian Races day in the Roda Hotels & Resorts Premier Handicap Stakes.His dam QUAOLINA was a multiple Group winner by KERBELLA and out of CARY DE CARRERE, a dam of champions. Trained by Damien de Watrigant, she started her career in France and competed at the highest level. She won the sprint race Za’abeel International Stakes (Gr.1 PA) in Newbury in 2008 for HH Sheikh Hamdan. After a few places in other European Group races, she was exported to the UAE where she continued her successful racing career with Doug Watson. She then came back to the UK to become a broodmare.

AHS Patron HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum is also a patron of the Arabian Racing Organisation and host to the Dubai International Arabian Races Day at Newbury on Sunday 29 July with

free entry to all. Two of the Sheikh’s horses, bred at Shadwell Stud in Thetford, are here today.His Highness, with 60 pure Arabians racing with different trainers, has been ‘Leading Race horse owner’ in the UK for the past 14 years. Shadwell horses also race in Europe and the Middle East in the Sheikh’s

famous blue and white colours.

4. Tomatillo

Tomatillo is a genetic clone of Tamarillo, the hugely successful Three Day Event horse, long term member of the British Eventing team and winner of the Badminton and Burghley four star events. Because Tamarillo, like most eventers, was a gelding, he has been cloned so that his special genes will not be lost. Tomatillo already has foals on the ground and stands at Biddesden Stud, which is a great supporter of NaStA grading and the AHS Premium Performance Scheme

ARAB HORSE SOCIETY PREMIUM PERFORMANCE SCHEME (PPS)

The AHS has a long-established breeding scheme to encourage the use of proven performance stallions with Arabian blood, and rewards successful progeny in a number of disciplines. Stallions qualify for

AHS Premium status either through the comprehensive two-day NaStA performance test (see page 8) and are graded, or – for stallions at least 10 year old - through the ridden achievements of at least three

of their progeny, or with another breed society with a similar scheme. Trophies are awarded for each year’s Leading Endurance Sire and Endurance Progeny and Leading Racing Sire and Racing Progeny.

5. LR Bold Greyson

Bred by John Crandell in the USA. Owned and ridden by Nicki Thorne

A top-rated endurance horse with a career spanning many years and continents, Greyson twice competed for Britain at both the World Championships in Slovakia in 2016 and the European Championships in 2015. He was joint first over the line at the world’s toughest endurance test, the Tevis in the USA, and has been Top Three in many competitions with six 160kms FEI 3-star completions, and successes at 120km level.Last year, Horse & Hound featured him over a double-page spread, analysing his conformation to illustrate the reasons for his great achievements.His owner Nicki Thorne is the current Chairman of Endurance GB, but today is abroad on a qualifying ride for the next World Equestrian Games.

6. Mukhtar Ibn Eternity

Bred by Mr & Mrs H Segre; owned by Sasha Melia, ridden by Julia Fairbank

This NaStA-graded class 1 AHS Premium Performance stallion competes successfully in BE eventing trials, show jumping , dressage, combined training, arena eventing, and winter trials, and has sired many successful AHS Premium progeny.

He is a multi-champion show horse in hand and under saddle and has been a HOYS Ridden Arabian of the Year finalist at HOYS three years running. He also qualified for the BE Arena Eventing championships 2016/2017, and the Trailblazers show jumping championships 2017/2018.

His owner Sasha rode him in full Arabian costume in the 2017 New Year’s Day parade in London and he made many friends – who could resist a bright white Arabian on a dull winter’s day!

Earlier this month, Mukhtar Ibn Eternity was recognised as Britain’s ambassador for the breed this year with the award of the coveted 2018 WAHO trophy.

7. Incognito

Incognito is in mid-career as an eventer with 18 points; he moved up to Intermediate during 2017 and jumped a double clear at Wellington. He finished the season with a clear cross country at Osberton over the tricky 2* course for the 7-year old championships. He has been gelded for the furtherance of his performance career but frozen semen is available.Incognito is the first part Arab to be admitted to the highly respected group of performance horses awarded AHS Premium status NaStA-tested gelding – the first to be graded after his semen was collected and he was gelded.

8. Yawl Hillbilly

NaStA-graded AHS Premium Elite Stallion, competing in advanced endurance rides. He completed four FEI 160km 3* rides, and numerous other Endurance GB rides, and has been BE100 evented. He also competed in show jumping

National Stallion Association (NaStA) Grading

Every year, the National Stallion Association organises a tough two-day test for stallions of all breeds, covering dressage, show jumping, cross country, loose schooling over jumps, a thorough vet inspection

of conformation and paces, and a temperament evaluation. Additionally, the Arab Horse Society evaluates horses with Arabian blood and, taking into account any ridden performance results from

affiliated disciplines, awards them a Grade.

The top is Elite, as personified by the versatile part Arab stallion here today, Yawl Hillbilly, himself by a pure Arab NaStA-test premium stallion, Dhruv, bred at Biddesden Stud,

great supporters of stallion testing.

9. Red House Romeo

Romeo is competing in affiliated showing, Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping and hunter trialsHe was the Reserve Champion and Gadebrook Trophy winner of the 2016 AHS Performance Horse Awards, the Silver Veteran Champion at the British Amateur Home Produced Championships in 2017, and Reserve Supreme Champion Sunshine Tour 2016. Romeo has won over 30 rosettes at the AHS British National Championships over the past two years, and also won at Elementary dressage,

10. Oare House Hero

Hero is by the AHS Anglo Arab Premium Performance stallion Persiflage who was an advanced Three Day Eventer. Persiflage jumped clear at 3* level gaining 60 points. He also won £549 show jumping with BSJA, gaining 345 points.Oare House Hero is just starting his eventing career but has already jumped double clear at Novice level, gaining a point.

11. Fifty Shades of J

In 2017, Fifty Shades of J jumped 15 clear BSJA rounds with 11 double clears, and qualified for the British Novice Regional Finals. She has qualified for the Horsequest Novice Winter Show Jumping Championship, and accumulated 123 BSJA points. She has already gained 130 AHS Performance Horse Awards points in 2018.

12. Treenhill Aristotle

6-year old bay Anglo Arab stallion by AH Cheshmak x Treenhill ShillelaghOwned and bred by Pamenah Piddock and ridden by Aimee Stunt

Aristotle is a Premium graded stallion with Sports Horse GB after achieving a Higher First Premium at the 2014 BEF Futurity. Aristotle is also registered as a Sports Horse Pony and AHS Premium stallion. He was the Anglo Arab British National Champion In hand in 2016, and AHS Reserve Supreme in hand champion 2016.

Finishing his novice season under saddle in 2017, he was Reserve British National Champion Anglo Arab, British Arabian Championships Supreme overall champion, supreme overall Ridden Champion and In hand Anglo and part Arab Champion. He came 2nd in the 2017 BD Arab Dressage Championships Novice Anglo/Part Arab Section, and also won the AHS Performance Awards for Anglos - with a junior rider.

13. Silvern Prince

Owned & bred by Caroline Sussex, Binley Arabian Stud

Caroline’s ‘Princey’ is one of the most highly decorated Arabians here today, having won all four of the most coveted titles in Ridden Showing: The British National Championship, the UK International Championship, the Royal International Ridden Arabian Championship and the Horse of the Year Show Supreme Championship - some of them more than once! - with Darren Crowe. His successes, coupled with his beauty, superb temperament and elegant movement, earned him the 2015 WAHO trophy.

This stallion is the product of five generations of Crabbet breeding from the foundation mare, Risseefa, at Caroline’s mother’s Worth Arabian Stud. These horses descend from horses bought from the Bedouin tribes and Egyptian pashas by the founders Wilfrid Scawen Blunt and his wife Lady Anne and brought to Crabbet Park in Sussex in the late 1870s. Their daughter Lady Wentworth subsequently took over Crabbet Park Stud with great success.

The World Arabian Horse Organization Trophy (WAHO)

The Arab Horse Society was a founder member of WAHO in 1970; Caroline Sussex is the current Hon Treasurer.

Each year, member countries award the coveted WAHO trophy to the best pure Arab ambassador of the breed. The beautiful stallion Mukhtar Ibn Eternity (horse number 6) is this year’s winner.Silvern Prince won in 2015 (pictured), a fitting accolade for all his successes in Ridden showing.

14. Maleikero

Bred by Miss N Haworth Owned by Andrea Boyle and ridden today by Anna Matthews

Maleikero was the Champion Ridden Arab at the Horse of the Year Show and three times Ridden Arabian winner of Royal International Horse Show, ridden by Andrea. He also won the Ridden championship at the British National Arabian show, and at the UK International and European championships in Morselle, Belgium - and every major show in England. Maleikero has also competed in hand, being second at both the UK International and the Europeans. His magnificent showing record was rewarded in 2009 with the presentation of the WAHO Trophy. Maleikero has competed successfully at Elementary level dressage. To add to his versatility, he has also enjoyed success in sport horse classes.

15. Incandescent

In 2016, Incandescent was the Reserve Novice Ridden Gelding at the British National Championship show. In 2017, he gained 4th place at the Horse of the Year Show and won the Le Mieux La Liga award for the most consistent performance in qualifiers throughout the season. He also qualified at the UK International Arabian Show. He has wins at HoCon, North Staffs, and the South East Regional Arab Group Shows. He was again Reserve Novice Ridden gelding at British National Championships in 2017 as well as 3rd in the HOYS Gelding class, 2nd in the Restricted Ridden Gelding class, 2nd in the Junior Ridden Arabian Star Series qualifier for stallions and geldings. He was 1st and champion at Suffolk County show and 1st and Reserve Champion at the Norfolk and Suffolk Arabian Group show.

16. Claudiuss

Claudiuss competes in Eventing, Dressage, Ridden Showing and Show Jumping.

His 2017 AHS Performance Horse Awards Points gave him the 7th overall place in the Pure Arab Section, and he was also the Multi-disciplines winner and Eventing High Points winner. He also won at Arena Eventing last year, and was 5th at Royal Windsor Horse Show. At the AHS British National Championship Show with Lorna, he won a show jumping class, the same day as coming 4th in the HOYS Ridden Arabian qualifying class and won the combined training Novice and Elementary Sections! At the 2017 Crabbet Arabian Show at Equifest, he was the Open Ridden winner and Overall Ridden Champion. He has also completed a few pleasure rides.

17. Fames Dakota

This eye-catching stallion was last year’s British Dressage Novice Arab Champion. He qualified for the 2016/2017 British Dressage summer Regionals, and for the 2018 British Dressage winter Regionals and holds a personal best score of over 77% in British Dressage. He has already qualified for the BD Arab Champion-ships at Elementary level for 2018 and the British Dressage summer Regionals 2018. He is graded with the Sports Pony Studbook 2018, currently the only Pint-Arabian stallion graded in the UK and became an AHS Premium Performance Stallion in 2017.

Nettex Arab Horse Associated Championship

For 2018 British Dressage, Nettex and the Arab Horse Society are proud to present the Nettex Arab Horse Associated Dressage Championship. This year, the Finals will take place on Saturday 20 October at

Solihull Riding Club. The Championship is open to pure, part and Anglo Arabs. The competition runs from Introductory to Elementary levels. To qualify, riders need to gain at least

three scores at 60% or more at BD affiliated shows. The championship is open to current Full and Club members. Those who have never competed BD before are welcome. The horse or pony must be registered

with the AHS and the horse owner must be an AHS member.

18. PHA Devine Chance

Overall Champion pure Arab high points winner at Norfolk & Suffolk Arabian Horse Group Show.

He has wins in Western Equestrian Society competition against all breeds.

He was British National Reserve Champion in the Owner/Breeder class in 2016.He was in the top 5 of the Ridden Arabian Star Series in 2016

This multi-talented horse has been partnered by three professional riders: Tanya Rowe, Stephanie Turner and Charlotte Wright - and he is a wonderful safe ride for his amateur OAP owner

19. Beeston Hakim

10-year old chestnut Arab stallion by Klinta Bashir x HadilaBred by Mr + Mrs W Dorsey. Owned and ridden by Imogen Budd

Hakim raced from 2012-2014, then switched careers and began Ridden Arabian show classes in 2014. He has won many championships at County, National and International level. He was the 2016 and 2017 Area Group Champion, and the 2017 Gold Medal winner. He has a high percentage of Crabbet Arabian bloodlines and won the High Points Championship at the Crabbet Show in 2016, and the High Points Crabbet award at the UK International Arabian Show in 2017.

Retraining of Racehorses

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses who have retired from racing. It was established in 2000, and has a unit here in the Rothschild Yard and

Sir Peter O’Sullevan Arena at Palace House. The Charity:

* raises funds from within the Racing Industry for the retraining and re-homing of former racehorses * provides a safety net for ‘vulnerable’ former racehorses promotes the adaptability and versatility of racehorses to other equestrian activities runs and funds a programme of competitions and educational events * provides information for owners and trainers in the Racing and Equine Industries to assist with the re-homing and retraining of their former racehorses.

20. LB Armanii

Competing in Endurance, after two seasons racing.

Armanii raced successfully in the UK for two years with several wins, trained by Peter Hammersley. Now owned by Sarah Ainsworth, he started his endurance career in 2015 and quickly moved up to Advanced level. He was 9th in his first international FEI race over 80km at Euston Park last year and qualified for the British Endurance Championships 2017.

Winner of AHS Premium Scheme Racing Progeny awards in 2013 and 2014. His sire, the legendary long-distance racing champion Sambist, has won the Leading Race Sire title an unprecedented 12 times up to the end of 2017!

“From the Desert to the World” Exhibition

To celebrate the Centenary of the Arab Horse Society, there is an exhibition here at the National Heritage Centre until 14 July featuring the history and activities of members and their horses over the past century,

and items and material from the Society’s archives. Lawrence of Arabia was an early member!LB Armanii’s sire, Sambist was the first Arabian horse in the world to have his genome sequenced –

it is on display for the very first time in the exhibition.

21. Zyta

Competing in Endurance, Ridden Showing, Dressage, Show Jumping and Hunter Trials. This AHS Premium mare is consistently in the Top 10 in the AHS Performance Horse Awards. She has completed over 1,000kms in competitive Endurance, was the 2017 Reserve Champion Versatile Horse in the Performance Scheme, the 2016 Ridden Showing Champion in the AHS Performance Horse Awards, the RASS CARE (Career after Racing or Endurance) Mare Champion, and has qualified for BD Arab Dressage Championships – a true all-rounder!

AHS PERFORMANCE HORSE AWARDS

The Arab Horse Society runs a free annual contest for members who own horses competing in all ridden disciplines, with awards presented at the National Championship Show in Malvern each July by the Hon

President. There are trophies in three sections: Pure Arab, part Arab and Anglo Arab – and one for Junior - with individually-name gold embossed rosettes for finalists, and awards for High Points winners in

Endurance, Racing, Dressage, Eventing, Ridden showing, and Show Jumping.

22. CF Winter Amadeus

Amadeus won the 2014 AHS ‘Sheer Versatility’ EGB Novice Championship, and the 2015 AHS Performance Horse Awards, with a 4th place in the 2016 competition. He is a member of EBG Inter Regional Championships winning team, and was the 2017 AHS Performance Horse Awards Reserve Champion . He was place 5th in the Endurance GB Senior Championships.

This versatile AHS Premium mare has taken many riders to endurance success, most recently young Rebecca Parsler who came 2nd nationally in the Pony Club Endurance Championships last October. Kalish has qualified up to FEI*** international level over 160kms, and has competed in the prestigious Royal Windsor Endurance race. Dam of the endurance gelding Hussam (2008) by the AHS Premium stallion Sambist. Kalish is also a nifty Trec competitor.

Arab Horse Society Marathon 7 October, Newmarket

By kind permission of The Jockey Club, the AHS Marathon will run over the historic Rowley Mile and Town Plate courses in Newmarket from 11am, generously sponsored by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Entry is free to spectators, but riders must qualify with a horse on which they have competed at least twice in the 12 months prior to the race. The horse must carry a minimum weight, be at least 7 years old

and minimum 14.2hh (unless pure Arab).

Kaalif was the Leading Endurance 2-year old in the BEF Youngstock Evaluations nationally in 2012. He won the Sports Horse class at the British National Arabian Championship show as a 3 year old and was Ridden Champion at the Crabbet Arabian show as a 5 year old in 2015. Kaalif competed successfully in last year’s Royal Windsor Endurance Ride and is entered again this year over 40kms on 11 May with Anja Brandt. We wish them well!Kaalif ’s bay dam, Palma Benay, was imported from Pevensey Stud in Australia to Gadebrook to replace the lost bay gene in pure Crabbet bloodlines. Kaalif was licensed as a stallion, and sired a pure Crabbet colt, Shaarif, three years ago, but is now gelded. He is ridden by Anja at Advance level endurance, with three Grade 1s so far this year. The bay gene in Crabbets is safe - Kaalif has two bay half-brothers in British Crabbet breeding programmes.

British Breeding Youngstock Futurity Evaluations

This scheme, now run by British Breeding, assesses youngsters from foals to three-year olds at venues around the country, and grades them according to stringent vetting procedures and their performance in

hand and loose in an arena. Breeders bring youngstock forward in one of four categories: Endurance, Eventing, Show jumping or Dressage. Competition is keen for the highest grading. The horse’s progress

is followed either via the Equine Bridge, for the Olympic disciplines, once it is trained and competing under saddle, or Endurance GB awards for those Futurity Graduates registered, qualified and competing

in endurance. Kaalif is a Futurity Graduate award winner.
