World Mission Sunday Collection World Mission Sunday is celebrated throughout

the world in October of each year. It is taken up

under the auspices of the Pontifical Mission

Societies for the needs of the Church throughout

the world. After the collection is taken up the

parish sends a check to the Joliet Diocese

Finance Office. It should be made payable to

the “Diocese of Joliet” with "World Mission

Sunday" in the memo line. Please send the

check within two weeks because the financial

year of Joliet Diocese Missions ends in December

because we must report to the National Office of

Request for Prayers for the Sick If you or someone from your immediate family would like to be prayed for at weekend Mass, you must contact the Parish Office at 815-469-3750. The name will be mentioned for a two-weekend period. After two weekends, the name will be removed from the Pass Petitions. If you would like to have the name mentioned after that, you will have to contact the Parish Office again. Just a reminder: Only the person who is ill or someone from the immediate family can make the request due to the HIPAA policy.

Request for Hospital Visit When you or someone from your immediate family are admitted to the hospital and you would like a visit from a Priest or Deacon, you need to contact the Parish Office. Only the person who is ill or the immediate family can make the request for a hospital visit.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CALENDARS FOR PRISONERS

Our St. Anthony Knights of Columbus Council #9770 in the past years has donated religious and secular items approved by the Chaplains and Prison Administrators to the inmates at Stateville Penitentiary. Calendars, both religious and non-

sectarian, are in high demand. Many parishioners receive complimentary calendars in the Fall. The Chaplain at Stateville said he could potentially distribute 3,500-4,000 calendars. Last year we collected over 500 calendars. To donate calendars through our Knights of Columbus, please place them in the box labeled “Calendars” that can be found in the Atrium. Thank you.

St. Anthony Seniors Meeting St. Anthony's Seniors will meet at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Membership dues of $10 per person are due at this meeting. We will enjoy Jersey Mikes box lunches which will include a mini sub, chips and a cookie. Cost is $8.50 per person. Be sure to bring your own drink of choice. Catechist Corner

Can we interact with angels?

Yes. We can call on angels for help and

ask them to intercede with God. Every

person receives from God a guardian

angel. It is good and sensible to pray to

one's guardian angel for oneself and for

others. Angels can also make themselves

noticeable in the life of a Christian, for

example, as bearers of a message or as

helpful guides. Our faith has nothing to do

with the false angels of New Age

spirituality and other forms of

esotericism. (YOUCAT questions 54-55)

Dig Deeper: CCC section (328-342)

Do you think you will be in heaven? In

today’s Gospel Jesus tells a parable

about the kingdom of heaven. He

addresses the parable to the religious

leaders, people who were fairly

confident that they were chosen by

God for salvation. In the parable, who

finally got to enjoy the wedding feast?

Were you surprised by this? Do you

think those who heard the parable as

Jesus told it were surprised? Jesus

teaches us in this Gospel the

importance of humility as we hope for

God’s kingdom and salvation.

Question for Children: Why is it

important for you to do what Jesus

asks of you?

Question for Adults: Each week we are

invited to participate in Mass. When

you are at Mass, how well do you really

participate? How could you be more

present in heart, mind, and spirit?

Anything but Ordinary (Time) Facts

In 313, Emperor Constantine announced the toleration of

Christianity in the Edict of Milan. He did not create the

Catholic Church, as is sometimes believed.

PRO-LIFE REFLECTION and PRAYER

“He will flee from oppression and violence, for their blood is precious in His sight.”

~PSALM 72:14 This psalm foretells the Messiah and describes the effects of His coming. The Messiah holds the blood of human lives as precious, and therefore He brings an end to oppression and violence. He is on the side of the helpless. Let us praise You, the God Who sets us free from violence, and cooperate with Your grace to free the oppressed

THE HEAVENLY BANQUET The mountain of the Lord described in today’s first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and ponder these images every now and then, especially given the fact that we live in such a fractured world. The responsorial psalm continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us throughout our lives. Let us “RSVP” to God’s invitation and live our lives consistent with gospel values so that one day we will be welcomed to the table of the kingdom.

Autumn Prayer O God of Creation, you have blessed us with the changing of

the seasons. As we e m b r a c e t h e s e autumn months, May the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest.

May the crunch of the leaves beneath our feet remind us of the brevity of this earthly life. May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us your breath of life. May the scurrying of the squirrels and the migration of the birds remind us that you call us to follow your will. We praise you for your goodness forever and ever. Amen.
