Deacon’s Corner

Jesus uses our hands, our feet, our voice,

and our heart to touch people in our day.

We may never get to witness such

dramatic deeds as the miracles that Jesus

performed like the deaf hearing, or the

mute speaking, but we get to witness

God’s activity in the world everyday. We

too can participate in the activity of Jesus

by bringing in the excluded, reaching out

to those on the margins, and empathizing

with those who have less. Each time we go

outside to deal with the needs of another

person we are acting as an “other Christ”.

By virtue of our baptism that is all of our

vocations as Christians, to be another

Christ on earth, ministering to those in

need wherever and whenever we find them.

Figuratively, and even literally, we can help

to give voice to the voiceless, and assist

those who cannot hear, to hear. The voice-

less might not be mute, but instead they

maybe the marginalized who might be inca-

pable to speak their mind. Those who can-

not hear might not be deaf, but those who

are figuratively deaf to the injustice in our

world. As another Christ, it is our duty as

baptized Christians to enact God’s king-

dom on earth. Today we are given a model

for doing that. When we do so, our behav-

ior might be thought of as unusual, or out

of the norm but nevertheless this is our

calling from God Himself.

God bless,

Deacon John

DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL? The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. On one hand the durable bond of marriage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic wedding was celebrated, perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure ad-dresses these circumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please tele-phone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587-3750

“The goal of Catholic liturgy is to communicate a transcendent awareness of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. Faith in the Real Presence of Christ

In the Eucharist demand great beauty, dignity, and reverence.” All of us have the responsibility to bring beauty, reverence and dignity to our celebration of Mass. The Church directs us to do this in a very simple and concrete ways: -to receive the Eucharist one must be in a state of grace, serious sin must be confessed before receiving Holy Communion. If married be married in a Valid marriage in the eyes of the Church. -fast from food at least one (1) hour before receiving Holy Communion, exceptions taking medication or other health issues. -bodily demeanor, gestures dress ought to convey respect as Christ becomes our guest. -a simple bow before receiving Holy Communion and responding Amen. -quite reflection when returning to the pew acknowledging Christ’s presence, words of praise and thanksgiving and petitioning the Lord to answer our many needs. Leaving Church after receiving is not appropriate. -to remember we are to become what we receive. How do we reflect the spirit of the Eucharist in our relationships, choices and decisions. -Be mindful of Christ's continuing presence in the tabernacle. If able genuflect entering and leaving Church or a simple bow is appropriate for those who cannot genuflect. Reverence, dignity, beauty, simple ways we all can proclaim our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
