THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL Then, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs, who had come from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. His betrayer had arranged a signal with them, saying, “The man I shall kiss is the one; arrest him and lead him away securely.” He came and immediately went over to him and said, “Rabbi.” And he kissed him. At this they laid hands on him and arrested him. One of the bystanders drew his sword, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear. Jesus said to them in reply, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs, to seize me? Day after day I was with you teaching in the temple area, yet you did not arrest me; but that the Scrip-tures may be fulfilled.” And they all left him and fled. Now a young man followed him wearing nothing but a linen cloth about his body. They seized him, but he left the cloth be-hind and ran off naked. Mark 14:43-52

Judas is still loved by God.

THE PASTOR’S PONDERANCES Today we consider how we turn from our Lord and how the Lord is so willing to welcome us back. Jesus shows great love in the Gospel even though the story that begins here does not end well until Easter morning. Fr. Daniel

FRIENDLY VISITOR PROGRAM Catholic Charities NH Rochester Office will be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, April 13, for anyone interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor. A Friendly Visitor provides “social visits” to our homebound seniors. The pur-pose of this program is to alleviate loneliness and isolation of the senior members of our community, as well as assist-ing families in having an hour or two of respite. Volunteers must be interviewed, agree to a background check, and attend a training session. If you are interested in learning more about being a Friendly Visitor, please at-tend one of the two scheduled informational meetings at St. Mary’s: Monday, April 13 at 10:00 am, or at 6:30 pm. Call Sr. Helene at 332-7701 to register. NEED A FRIENDLY VISITOR? If you know of a neigh-bor, friend, or family member that may enjoy a Friendly Visi-tor, please contact Sr. Helene at 332-7701. Also, if you are caring for a family member and would benefit from having an hour or two a week to go to lunch, get a haircut, or do the grocery shopping, please call Sr. Helene at 332-7701. Let us as a community see if we can pull altogether.

DOMINIC SINIBALDI, SR. & JR. BY MARGIE BEAUDOIN & FAMILY

SR. LUCIE SAYS We begin the celebration of Holy Week this

weekend with shouts OF “Hosanna!” and the

acclamation of Jesus as the Messiah. We pro-

cess with the newly blessed palms and rejoice

for the Messiah is finally recognized. Very

quickly, however, these shouts of joy change to

a more solemn reading of the Passion of the

Lord from the Gospel of Mark. It is also the be-

ginning of the most solemn week of the Litur-

gical Year. If possible, consider attending the

services of Thursday, Friday and Saturday—

for these are really like one continuous ser-

vice. You may notice that the Holy Thursday

service begins with Mass as usual, but there

are no prayers of dismissal nor a closing

hymn. In fact, the people leave in silence after

the Blessed Sacrament is transferred. On Good

Friday, there are no opening prayers. After

the priest and the deacon prostrate themselves

in front of the altar, we go immediately to the

Liturgy of the Word and the reading of the

Passion. After distribution of communion, the

altar is stripped, and we all leave in silence to

continue on to Holy Saturday for the Easter

Vigil.

PRAYERS FOR OUR COUNTRY Please join in saying a silent prayer for our country at 12 o’clock noon each and every day. Evil is all around us but so are blessings, and we know God hears our prayers. A meaningful prayer like “have mercy on us” or “God pro-tect our country” said sincerely is all that is needed or your own words that come from the heart. Thank you “nothing is impossible with God.” Your name is not necessary, but if you wish to give it, our names will be sent to the Divine Mercy Prayer Line for our protection.
