OUR LADY OF SORROWSThe Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows takes place the day after the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is observed annually
on September 14. On the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, we venerate the Mother of the Crucified One in appreciation of the terrible grief she endured. There are seven sorrows as foretold by Simeon in the Temple when he encountered the Holy Family at the Presentation of Jesus.1. The prophecy of Simeon (Luke
2:25-35)2. The flight into Egypt (Matthew
2:13-15)3. Loss of the Child Jesus for three
days (Luke 2:41-50)4. Mary meets Jesus on his way to
Calvary (Luke 23:27-31; John 19:17)
5. Crucifixion and Death of Jesus (John 19:25-30)
6. The body of Jesus being taken from the Cross (Psalm 130; Luke 23:50-54; John 19:31-37)
7. The burial of Jesus (Isaiah 53:8; Luke 23:50-56; John 19:38-42; Mark 15:40-47)
Mary was chosen by God to bear His Son. With that great joy and responsibility also came great sorrow. Along with her great joy and sorrow came great love for each one of us as her children. Love is what gave her the courage to accept Simeon’s prophecy. Love is what gave her the strength to embrace each sword as it pierced her heart. Love is what urged her to accept her Son’s dying request. Love is what compels her to continue caring for us tenderly, limitlessly, and faithfully.
PATRIOTIC ROSARYAs we remember those lost in the tragic terrorist attack of September 11, please join us this and every Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. to pray a Patriotic Rosary for divine protection and mercy for our Nation. Please enter through the connector.

ASK DEACON JEFFAT ORDINATION, WHY DO DEACONS MAKE A PROMISE OF OBEDIENCE?
As a refresher, the deacon candidate makes three promises to the Archbishop — prayer, celibacy, and obedience. This week, we will examine the promise of obedience more in depth. During this promise, each candidate approaches the Archbishop and kneels before him. Then, they place their hands between the hands of the Archbishop while this promise is made. This symbolic action shows that we are placing ourselves in the care of the Archbishop and his successors. This promise goes both ways—we promise to be humbly obedient to his requests, but we also trust that he will provide and have our best interest at heart. We trust that when he asks us to do something that he has prayed about it and that it is God’s will for us. The promise of obedience is most commonly exercised through priestly assignments. Obedience can be one of the hardest promises, but it is also very freeing. It enables the deacon or priest the ability to let go of his will and trust that God is working through the Archbishop. Even if it is a difficult assignment, it can be helpful to persevere out of obedience and trusting that it is the Lord’s will for you to be there.Thank you and God Bless, Deacon Jeff StegbauerPlease continue to send in your questions to [email protected]!
CALL TO PRAYER:PROJECT RACHEL – PEACE STARTS HERESince 1994, Project Rachel has ministered to women and men in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati who have lost a child through abortion. Knowing what we do know now,
there are relatives, friends, partners and others involved in the experience that are also suffering the loss of an unborn child, and need to honor the child and have an opportunity to heal while grieving and mourning their loss. For many, it takes weeks, months or even years to come to terms with the feelings you are experiencing. By acknowledging the connection between a role played in an abortion experience, and your present emotions, you have taken the first step in healing. We invite you to look in to your heart and listen to the voice of God. Help yourself by accepting His love and forgiveness.Through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Support Groups and Retreats the following opportunities are available in addition to individual care.
WOMEN’S RETREAT For mothers affected by an abortion experience.October 19-21, 2018,
DAY OF REFLECTIONFor any person affected by an abortion experience. November 17, 2018
Please call the local Project Rachel Hotline at 513-784-0531 or contact [email protected] for more details.

Come Home… Are you or do you know someone who is being led to the Catholic Faith? RCIA will be gathering and joining for fellowship and a deeper journey with the Catholic faith starting September 10.RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and is the process for becoming Catholic and accepting Christ and His teachings in the fullest through the Catholic Church. RCIA is a journey for adults who have a relationship with Jesus Christ and are being called to explore the Catholic faith in a deeper, meaningful way through Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharistic. As a congregation, we ask for prayers for those adults surrounding us who are seeking the Lord and the Catholic faith. Your witness may be the witness they need to become a Disciple of Christ and a brother/sister in the Catholic faith. Let our daily works be the true evangelization of the works of our Lord.If you are interested in participating in RCIA, please reach out to Missy Bennett, Coordinator of Religious Education, at [email protected] or call 498.0433.

Memory of; in Thanksgiving for; or in Honor of a family member or loved one. During the Christmas season, all donations that were made during that year will be listed in a special bulletin insert. SAINT OF THE WEEK
ST. PAPHNUTIUSPaphnutius was born circa late 3rd century. His birth place is unknown, but we believe him to be of Egyptian descent. At some point during his life he left all he had and journeyed to the deserts of the Scetis Valley in Northeastern Egypt. There, he lived the monastic life under St Antony, one of the first and greatest Desert Fathers. He was eventually made the Bishop in Thebaid in Eastern Egypt. During the reign and persecution of the Roman Emperor Maximus, Paphnutius was blinded in his right eye and his leg tendons were cut in one leg. He was then sent to forced labor in a mine. After peace was restored, Paphnutius was able to regain his Episcopal seat in Thebaid and care for his flock, fighting against the Arian Heresy with his close friend St. Athanasius, the Bishop of Alexandria. During this theological conflict, which split the early Church for hundreds of years, was both a denial of the Trinity and the eternality of God the Son. St. Paphnutius is sometimes post scripted as ‘the Great’ to distinguish him from other saints with the same name. We are unsure of the date of his death, but the Church celebrates his feast day on the 11th of September.

HOLY ANGELS SCHOOL NEWSBlessings from our principal, Mrs. Beth Spicer
Students packed the hallways at Holy Angels School on Tuesday, August 21, as they celebrated their first day of school! All “Wings” were greeted by the familiar faces of staff and faculty; the only new face in the crowd was Greg Cruse, our new cafeteria supervisor. We opened our first day with an assembly and ended with sherbet snacks personally delivered to each classroom by me! I was, and continue to be, impressed by the levels of enthusiasm and commitment to education among all of our staff members. We will work together to make this school year a very spiritual and memorable one for your children. Incidentally, our school motto for this year is “Exercise your faith – Walk with God.”Finally, I would like to share a few important dates regarding several events here at school. Our traditional candy sale began on August 28- September 14th – eat a candy bar for a good cause! Grandparents Day will be celebrated on October 15th. You will receive additional communications about these and other events in the future.Thank you for your support of the programs and activities here at HA. We are very grateful for all your involvement.
May God Bless You!Mrs. Beth Spicer
