Learning for lifeStockley Academy is a comprehensive school for students aged 11-19,

which aims to transform young people’s lives through learning.

As an Academy, our independence provides the Principal, staff and governing body with new opportunities to develop educational

strategies to raise standards. Our Principal Sponsor is Barry Townsley, a successful stockbroker and banker who brings expertise and

contacts with other businesses and organisations who will support the Academy’s long-term vision.

Stockley Academy is a superb example of a successful working partnership between education and the private sector, with strong

connections to the local community and potential employers.

Stockley Academy is a school which is right at the heart of its community. My exceptional team of teachers and support staff provide the best education possible for young people in the local area. Our traditional values of exemplary behaviour, courtesy and smart appearance combine with contemporary best practice in teaching and technology to create the ideal environment for learning to take place. And we have excellent facilities in a superb site.

The Academy’s motto is “Learning Transforms Lives”, a belief that we live and breathe in every lesson. Our students are happy, successful and they achieve in their learning across the broad curriculum that we have created. Through high expectations and focusing on the essentials of English and Maths, we help students to build the skills that bring lifelong success, developing their individual strengths and benefiting from support where it is needed.

Increasing numbers of our students choose to study in our Sixth Form, and every year more go on to study at university. We want every single student to fulfil their aspirations and to lead happy, successful lives.

I very much look forward to welcoming you to the Academy.

Leo Gilbert Principal

A WARM WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL

All schools have their own unique identity and ethos; we believe that learning at Stockley Academy transforms students’ lives. To improve life chances and provide opportunity for students in our community we will:

• ensure that student achievement, raising standards and learning are at the heart of everything we do

• maintain a business-like ethos, based on a belief in positive attitudes, hard work, honesty and integrity

• foster an exciting and creative learning community, in which all students develop their knowledge, skills and understanding to achieve excellence

• develop social values of tolerance, respect for diversity and provide opportunities for individual and personalised learning

• ensure students are prepared for lifelong learning and the world of work in the 21st century.

Stockley Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and we expect all members of staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our aim is to establish an environment where students feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to when they have a worry or concern. Parents and carers may also contact us when they have concerns about the welfare or safety of their child. The Designated Senior Members of staff work closely with the pastoral team to support students. A copy of our Child Protection policy can be accessed on the school website.

This motivating curriculum provides excellent work experience and careers guidance to better prepare students for their higher education and future employment.

...and beyond the curriculumOur aim is to be at the cutting edge of educational development. We see learning both as a great skill in itself and also as a means to a more fulfilling future.

In order to help every child to reach their potential, Stockley Academy offers a wide range of after-school activities from sports, music, art, drama and communications, to ICT activities and ‘catch up’ sessions.

Student voiceStudent voice is a tangible way to engage students in the Academy community and for them to play a vital part in its continual improvement.

Student voice is recognised through the School Council and Student Leadership Opportunities.

Building strong relationships with students and parents is crucial. On Induction Day, even before they join the Academy, each student will have the chance to meet their Form Tutor, Head of House, the Principal, and older students to make new arrivals welcome.... when you arriveTutor groups meet every morning and are organised into mixed-age groups. This develops students’ leadership and mentoring skills as well as establishing positive role models for younger students.

Every student at Stockley Academy is a member of a House: Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, Brunel and St Andrews. We have named the Houses after some of the world’s top universities to help students aspire to university when they leave the Academy. Students represent their Houses in a wide range of activities and events throughout the year.

... whilst you are hereBut the support doesn’t stop there. We believe in the importance of pastoral care. Form tutors will work directly with each student to set individual goals and monitor progress, with the support of other teachers, parents, carers and outside agencies. With a culture which is both caring and firm, we emphasise positive encouragement and celebrate success.

...with parents and carers...We rely on parents and carers to become active partners in the learning process. There is an important role to play in forging strong links through the use of student planners (which are shared between teacher, student and parent) and encouraging students to complete their homework on time.

The Academy uniform is also a key part of our culture, inspiring a sense of pride and belonging, but not at a great cost. We expect that parents and carers who accept a place for their children here will be happy to ensure they wear the correct uniform every day.

...with business...We believe in maintaining active links with commerce for investment and a focus on future employment.

It also has great value for relevant work experience, shadowing opportunities and inspiring visits from business leaders. We are well supported by leading organisations including BAA, Hasbro, JP Morgan, XL Catlin and PWC.

...and with the communityWe are at the centre of a thriving education network, including a long-standing relationship with Brunel University, who regularly offer our students the chance to sample university life. Our students participate in community activities to support charities, and our involvement with local secondary and primary schools, sports clubs, charities and businesses all provide a valuable educational opportunity in their own right.

WE WORK IN PARTNERSHIP...
