Page 1: Task 1c - NME

Basic Layout has the main image on one side of the A4 and the other side has the main text with the title. This is to allow the people flicking through the magazine to spot the image on the right side. And, then read the text all on one side.

Column Width is evenly spaced with sufficient space that it is clear to differentiate the columns. Hence giving an easy experience when reading.

Font (type & size) varies across the double page spread, the article title is bold and is bigger because it is show it is more important as it gives the page purpose. The article text is smaller as it needs to cover the page with sufficient writing detail. They are all sans serif fonts because they are easier to read and clear to the audience.

Use of Space has been efficiently as the use of columns keeps everything aligned and the small text covers the page without wasting space. The main image has been sized so it covers all areas of the page.

Colours have been kept consistent from the house style of the magazine – of black and red. The red has the connotation of rebellion whereas the black keeps to the rock genre. In particularly the main text is in black because it is easy to read against the white background.

Branding is sustained for tha magazine through the consistent colour scheme of Black and Red. With the red tones showing rebellion and the black showing the rock roots of the magazine. This emits it’s identity to their intended audience of rock listeners.

Image/ Text Integration is simple as the image is sized on to the 2nd side of A4 clearly and a text box has been layered above. Whereas on the other side of A4 it is again simple since the title is bigger and the rest of the text is smaller.

Image is a Medium Close Up of Noel Gallagher this has been used with the purpose of the audience focusing on his face. Mise-en-scene has been applied as Noel Gallagher is trying to adjust the camera thus trying to suggest to the target audience that he is a perfectionist and needs control. A red background is used on the image to follow the house style of the magazine and makes him stand out on the page.

Language is very provocative through the self-righteous title of ‘The importance of being Noel’. This causes the audience to have an opinion whether to agree or disagree with it. The niche market of Noel Gallagher fans would be interested in this as they are more likely to support it. And non-fans or general rock fans would be intrigued by the bold statement and would want to know whether he has the substance to back it up.

Design is very simple as there is no special integration to keep a classic aesthetic to it. The simple design also helps to put the article out to the readers easier. However, the choice in colours allow the pages to still look striking due to the boldness of the red.

Overall Impression has a simple and classic look to the rock genre. This due to the consistency in colour and design as they are not too vibrant so they put you off or too boring. It is very direct to the reader through the bold text and medium close up image.

Drop Cap on the star of the article, as people would be aware of where the article starts as the article text is in a small size. The red colour of the drop also makes it more visible.

Denotation is that Noel Gallagher is trying to adjust the camera.

Connotation of the main image is that Noel Gallagher is a perfectionist, as he needs to adjust the camera. This suggests that he needs to be in control even if (professional camera men) know what they’re doing.
