Now we have practised some mapping
and grid referencing, we are going to
start our topic about Whitby.
This week I want you to use a map
(either the one on page 3, an atlas or
an online map) to locate Leeds and
Whitby and mark them on the blank
map on page 4.
Think about how close/far away they
are.
How far away do you think Whitby is
from Leeds?
How long do you think it takes to get
there in the car?
Look for
subordinating
conjunctions
to help you!

Parents can visit chapter 13 in book B – Volume FOR ADULTS: Volume is the amount of space that a substance or object occupies Day 1. Lesson 4. Pg. 246 - 248 To be able to find the capacity of a cuboid. Focus task
What do we need to do to solve this problem? How do we measure space? How many unit cubes do you think would fit into this box? It would take a very long time to fill this box with unit cubes. But we could fill the bottom layer with 40 unit cubes and the box is 5 layers high, this could help us to solve the problem. Is this true? How can we use this information?
Task Sheets Week 12 – Year 5 Did you come up with this solution?
We use the same method for different sixed boxes…

(The smoothie is 1 and two fifths of a litre in case it isn’t clear) What do we need to do to compare the volumes? What is the problem here? In order to compare these amounts of liquid we must first make them all the same unit. What does that mean?
Did you find any of these solutions?
