all enjoyed the donation of fried chicken drum sticks from Pastor Thomas Webb, desserts by Miss Debbie, and we had a wonderful opportunity to promote a new business at the HUB with a taste of “A Blessed Palate” prepared by Cobra Gordon, who will be launching the “HUB Café” in collaboration with Shabazz Development Corporation.
For most in attendance, it was their first visit, so there was much anticipation of just what to expect. Along with Mr. Shabazz presentation and tour of the facility at the end of the event, Sharon Gordon, CEO/Founder of Urban Trendsetters also addressed the crowd. She encouraged the attendees to network with a goal of meeting (5) new business partners. She also shared the purpose of HUB BIZ List form each attendee was asked to complete. The form was a questionnaire which asked specific business questions all businesses need to answer and address on a day to day basis, like “Do I need a Business Coach?” and “Do I need to move my business out of my home?” Ms. Gordon said“As a business owner celebrating 13 years in business it is those relationships that have been a vital part of how Urban Trendsetters has been around when many others have come and gone. So if we at the HUB have an idea of what you bring to the table then working together, at the end of the day we can all eat.”
Also in attendance were representatives’ from Colum-bus Metropolitan Housing Authority, who had attended the MBE Procurement Fair held the previous week at the
HUB. Cheryl Taylor, Vice President and Financial Center Manager at Fifth Third Bank said “This HUB Community Development Corporation is exactly what this community needs to educate, enhance and build a better future for our children and successful entrepreneurs. I am so im-pressed with the vision and the great works this organiza-tion is doing. This is the result of great minds working from the ground up. Collaboration and passion is always a key to success! The ‘Wealth Wednesday’ is also a much needed component to empower our businesses.” Gayle Warren, who worked from home with Legal Shield for the past 13 years and who coordinates this monthly event, stated “seeing new faces and the partnerships that are developing makes me love being at the HUB. I have cus-tomers who reside in this building and new ones walk through the door everyday.”
Final remarks were made by Hawa Farah, Relationship Specialist at United Healthcare. She modestly thanked the attendees for supporting this event, sharing that United Healthcare is committed to small businesses and their success. She welcomed new partnerships and shared that upcoming events will allow those involved unique op-portunities. Mr. Shabazz shared that not only has United Healthcare been committed to the HUB from the begin-ning, but they are leading the path with the financial sup-
port they have supplied, for this we are eternally grateful.
