I had to buy a new pair of shoes yes-terday, my old ones were worn outfrom all the walking round and mee-ting people we´ve been doing ....that´s my excuse (actually our re-cently adopted dog, Chacho, has justdestroyed the last decent pair Ihad!) Anyway, I´m a woman. I don´tneed an excuse to buy shoes do I?

As you will see from this month´sarticles there are a lot of new peoplecontributing to the magazine, eventhough on first meeting one of them,he saw me coming, ran into the backoffice grumbling “it´s a rep!” andsent his wife out to talk to me.... (Youknow who you are.. Gary!)

Ed went scuba diving with ActiveScuba Divers in Estepona. I cameacross an amazing invention that isgoing to help make my son´s Birthdaycake look amazing! We can´t wait tosee the lovely new childrens´clothesLilita has in her new shop, Mini Estiloopening in November in Riviera DelSol and Kevin´s tapas in itZabar inSabinillas... well what more need wesay!

I married Miss Right. I just didn'tknow her first name was ... Always.

I haven't spoken to my wife for 18months. I don't like to interrupt.

Marriage is a 3-ring circus: Engage-ment ring, wedding ring, suffering.

The last fight was my fault. My wifeasked, "What's on the TV?" I said,"Dust!"

In the beginning, God created earthand rested. Then God created manand rested. Then God createdwoman. Since then, neither God norman has rested.

Young Son: Is it true, Dad, I heardthat in some parts of Africa a mandoesn't know his wife until he ma-rries her? Dad: That happens in every country, son.

A man inserted an 'ad' in the classi-fied: "Wife wanted". Next day hereceived a hundred letters. They allsaid the same thing: "You can havemine."

How do most men define marriage? An expensive way to get laundrydone for free.

The most effective way to remem-ber your wife's birthday is to forgetit once.

continued ...

Page 5: The Sentinella Costa West Edition, November 2009

...Do you know the punishment forbigamy? Two mothers-in-law.

Just think, if it weren't for ma-rriage, men would go through lifethinking they had no faults at all.

If you want your wife to listen andpay undivided attention to everyword you say, talk in your sleep.

Then there was a man who said, "Inever knew what real happiness wasuntil I got married; and then it wastoo late."

A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does it cost to get ma-rried?" And the father replied,"Idon't know son, I'm still paying."

Q: My hair is so fine and lank I can´tdo anything with it and I don´t wanta perm as it looks so oldfashioned. What do you suggest?

A: You should try a few hair exten-sions. People think extensions are ex-pensive and cause damage but this isnot so, if they are done correctlythey will change your look so muchthat you´ll never want to be withoutthem. Alternatively, ask your stylistto cut a few layers into your style, this will give your hair extra body. Also, using plenty of products such asmousse, hair thickener, gel and hairs-pray can help give you more volume.

Tips by Tracy from Hair Magic

What your Haridresser really means...

“I haven’t seen you for ages!” ..reallymeans.... “I think you’ve been going toanother hairdresser!”

“It’s got long hasn’t it?” ... really means.. “I´m on fairly safe ground here”

“What kind of shampoo are you using?”... really means ... “There must be someexplanation for the state of your hair!”

“I can´t afford a holiday this year” ...really means... “Please remember I relyon my tips!”

THINGS YOU'D LOVE TO SAY OUT LOUD

AT WORK...

I'm really easy to get along with onceyou people learn to see it my way.I'm out of my mind, but feel free toleave a message. I have plenty of talent and vision; Ijust don't give a damn. The fact that no one understandsyou doesn't mean you're an artist. What am I? Flypaper for freaks?! Errors have been made, Others willbe blamed. I thought I wanted a career; turnsout I just wanted a salary.Wait a minute... I'm trying to imagineyou with a personality.

The "Environmental EngineeringNews" published some rather sobe-ring information about punishment fordrunk driving convictions in othercountries.

In Australia, the names of drunk dri-vers are printed in newspapers underthe caption, "He's drunk and in jail."

In Malaysia the driver is jailed and, ifmarried, the spouse is jailed.

In the United Kingdom, Finland andSweden there's an automatic jail termof one year.

In Turkey, drunk drivers are driventwenty miles out of town and forcedto walk back ten miles.

In Bulgaria, a second drunk-drivingconviction results in capital punis-hment.

In El Salvador, your first offence isyour last -- execution by firing squad

And we all know that Spain is crackingdown on drink driving too…!

Don´t Drink & Drive

I was out walking with my 4-year-olddaughter. She picked up somethingoff of the ground and started to putit in her mouth.

I took the item away from her and Iasked her not to do that.

'Why?' my daughter asked.

'Because it's been on the ground; youdon't know where it's been, it'sdirty, And probably has germs,'I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked atme with total admiration andasked, 'Mum, how do you know all thisstuff? You are so smart.'

I was thinking quickly and replied,'All mums know this stuff. It's onthe Mum Test. You have to know it,or they don't let you be a Mum.'

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3minutes, but she was evidentlypondering this new information.

'Oh.....I get it!' she beamed, 'So ifyou don't pass the test you haveto be the dad.'

'Exactly,' I replied with a big smileon my face.

Hi Michele, do you mind telling us

But it wasworth all the hard work as I nowhave 2 internacionally recognisedqualifications,ITEC and CIDESCO

What is your favorite part of your

job?

My real passion is permanentmake-up or micropigmentation. Ihad a very intense 1 month ,1 to 1training by Anne-Lee Five, a toppermanent make-up artist inNorway. from your services?

The model can have her permanentmake-up done whilst you are all wat-ching us and she gets it at half price.

What are your future plans?

To become a millionaire soon ... No, Iwould like to further specialise inpermanent make-up and medical der-mopigmentation to become a leader inmy field. I absolutely love my job asa beauty therapist.

ED’s Adventure...with Active Scuba Divers

The day startedat 10.30am whenwe all met at ActiveScuba Divers dive

centre in Estepona Port. We filled inall the required paperwork and werekitted out with mask, snorkel, finsand wetsuit. Then it was off to thepool ...The instructor, Ronny, gave us ashort briefing: some of the Do´s &Dont´s of scuba diving; an explana-tion of the equipment we were usingand the skills we would be learning inthe pool. Luckily, Ronny cleary expa-linedand demonstrated all the skillsso it was pretty easy to just copywhat he did. Then it was time to getwet and try it for ourselves...Partly kitted up we entered the pool. With careful guidance by the ins-tructors, we were all shown how toclear water from our snorkel, copewith water entering into our masksand begin to understand about bou-yacny (this takes time to master!)Once Ronny was satisfied, we put onthe Scuba units (Self Contained Un-derwater Breathing Units) and in notime at all were not only swimmingbut also breathing underwater! Thefact that humans are not supposed tobe able to breathe underwater didkeep popping into my head, but onceI focused on the task it seemed tocome naturally...

When we were al happily swimminglike fish we carried out a few moreunderwater skills to familiarise our-selves with the new equipment

and then it was time to experimentwith our bouyancy . Ronny kept em-phasizing that good bouyancy was thekey to good diving! After a quick snack it was into thevan and off to the sea ... Yippee! All nervousness was replaced withexcitement as we pulled up at the lo-vely sheltered beach from which weliterally walked in to the water... thefeeling of wieghtlessness as we sub-merged into the water is an amazingfeeling. With Ronny and his instruc-tors close at hand, we just marvelledat the sea life around us (all the timeremembering to keep breathing ofcourse!) The fish seemed to swimwith us, I was surprised they didn´tswim away in fear of these strangecreatures in rubber with bottles ontheir backs! We saw starfish, babyoctopus, cuttlefish and lots of othersealife on the sea bed. It´s anotherworld ... But all good things must come to anend and, even though we lost all trackof time, it was too soon time to re-turn to the dive centre for a debrie-fing (a chat and review about whatwe had learnt) and to complete ourPADI DSD paperwork. A well earnedbeer and information about what wecould look forward to nexttime!

...Thanks toRonny & his Crew!

1. Customers Forget. We the custo-mers forget without constant remin-ders. Each day a customer doesn’thear about your company is one moreday they start hearing about yourcompetitor.2. Name Recognition. When a cus-tomer thinks of a product who do youwant them to think of? It’s prettyhard for them to immediately thinkof you if they don’t see your nameanywhere.3. People often take their timewhen buying. I often use a laptopwhen I travel and the time is comingfor a new one. So I’ll be shopping forthat. Am I going to buy it tomorrow?Probably not. I’ll start looking out forthe ads, studying the availablebrands and assembling the features

I need. I might not make the purchase for several months but when Ido I will probably have a dealer inmind and they will get a shot at mybusiness.4. Customers move. Studies showthat 25% of your customers willmove each year.5. A portion of the market is al-ways shopping. Did you notice thetyre ads in the paper today? If youneed tyres you probably did. If notyou probably didn’t give them a se-cond glance. Not everyone is yourcustomer every day. But each andevery day there is a portion of thepopulation that is looking for yourproduct. And you need to be therewhen they are ready to start lookingfor that product.

Personality Test

Imagine yourself driving along on a wild stormy night. You pass by a bus stopand you see three people waiting for the bus.1. An old lady who is about to die 2. An old friend who once saved your life 3. The perfect man (or woman) you have been dreaming about.Which one would you choose, knowing that there could only be one passenger inyour car? This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job ap-plication.You could pick up the old lady because she is going to die and thus you couldsave her first, or you could take the old friend because he once saved your lifeand this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may neverbe able to find your perfect dream lover again. (see pg46 for answer)

Recession Advertising

Companies willing to raise their voices and continue adverti-sing their wares in a depressed economy “will not only conso-lidate their existing position but will likely achieve a degree of

dominance when the marketplace makes its inevitable recovery.”

While consumers may stop buying during a recession, itdoesn’t mean they stop listening. But if you keep your

cool and maintain your advertising presence, when your com-petitors withdraw their voices from the marketplace your voice

will be heard all the louder.

Amazing Animals..This month we hop down under for a

glance at the kangaroo!

A kangaroo is a marsupial mammal. Itis a macropod which means "big foot".There are over 40 different types(species) of kangaroo. Some species of kangaroos live intrees!Kangaroos have a lifespan of up to 18years in the wildTo get up close to a 'roo, you canmove forward while they aren't loo-king and freeze while they are - mo-vement is what will scare them away;but if you stand still, they see you asbeing part of the landscape. The smaller ones are usually calledWallabies. The largest is the RedKangaroo. It stands taller than a man and canweigh 85 kg's. It is the largest mar-supial in the world. A kangaroo can hop at up to 60kmh(40mph). It can also leap over obsta-cles up to 3m (10ft) high. Because ofthe unusual shape of its legs and itsbulky tail a kangaroo can't walk ormove backwards very easily.Kangaroos are found in Australia,

Tasmania, and New Guinea. They are grazing animals that eatgrass, young shoots and leaves ofheath plants and grass trees. Kanga-roos need very little water to surviveand are capable of going for monthswithout drinking at all. A male kangaroo is called a buck. Itis also commonly called a "boomer" oran "old man". A female kangaroo iscalled a doe, or a flyer. A baby kan-garoo is called a joey. Kangaroos are social animals that livein groups or "mobs" of at least two orthree individuals and up to 100 kan-garoos.Kangaroos usually have one young an-nually. The joey remains in the pouchfor nine months and continues to suc-kle until twelve to seventeen monthsof age. Kangaroos can have three ba-bies at one time. The faster kangaroos hop, the lessenergy they use. When they are in danger, kangarooswill beat the ground loudly with theirhind feet.A newborn kangaroo weighs approxi-mately 0.03 ounces and is smallenough to fit in a teaspoon.

Kiddies Corner...

The story behind BONFIRE NIGHT...In 1605, a person named Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the

British Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. He, and his band of fellowconspirators, were caught after one of the group sent a letter to King Jamesof England warning him to stay away from Parliament. Guy Fawkes was impriso-ned and eventually put to death for his trouble, although modern British peopleremember him as "the only man ever to enter Parliament with honest inten-tions!"

Nowadays, the British mark Guy Fawkes' Day (or simply BonfireNight) by building bonfires and letting off fireworks. Traditio-nally, children made effigies of Fawkes from old clothes stuf-fed with newspaper, and display their "Guy" in the streets, asking "Penny for the Guy?", and expecting to receive somemoney. Guys were then thrown on the bonfire at the height ofthe celebrations.

Big firework displays are organised in public playing fields and open areas, usually with huge bonfires. The bonfires often take weeks to build, and in smallcommunities and villages everyone will bring some wood to add to the pile.

The events of 1605 are also remembered in a nursery rhyme.

"Remember, remember, the 5th of November,Gunpowder, treason and plot.We see no reason why gunpowder treasonShould ever be forgot."

The Sentinella Trader

We would like to inform our readers that The Sentinella Trader will not befeatured in The Sentinella, Costa West Edition.Should you have anything to sell then we would suggest a certain very popularand well distributed free ads newspaper that is seen every week on a Friday! We have bought and sold several items through them ourselves!

A fond farewell to possibly The oldest cat ?

Recently in a Spanish paper it was annonced that the oldest dog had died in NY at age16. Well, I don't know if she was the oldest cat in the world, but she arrived at an ama-zing age.Melissa, our dear cat passed away on Oct. 1, 2009 at the age of 22 years. She had beenwith us ever since she was a few months old and rescued by my daughter Virginia froma sure death: she was going to be thrown into a polluted river because her previousowner did not want her anymore. This little black creature was part of our family. Shereally wantedto live and to share. In her memory...Lucy Alio

“I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the old lady tothe hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the woman (orman) of my dreams.”
