HISTORY:

Van Mahotsav was launched in the year 1950 by Shri Kanhaiyalal M. Munshi, the

union minister for Agriculture and Food to create an enthusiasm among the common

folk for the preservation of forest and planting trees, as “Trees mean water, water

means bread and bread is life.” It was also having the motive of creating

consciousness among the people in order to preserve forest and stop large scale

cutting of trees.

INTRODUCTION:

Van Mahotsav is a Hindi word which literally means festival of forest and is

celebrated all along the country in the first week of July with the onset of

Monsoon. It is one week long celebration but in the year 2018, our environment

minister has declared for mass plantation drive for one month in order to increase

the forest cover of our country.

We have always shared the same concept and annually observe Van Mahotsav in

the month of July. We believe in the concept of planting more and more trees every

year and hence put every effort to make mining area full of tree cover with both

native and exotic species which further enhances the biodiversity of the premises.

Trees not only increase the aesthetic beauty of the area but also act as habitat of

several organisms. Several migratory birds even could be seen in the mining area

after onset of winters.

A beautiful example of development with nature could be seen at Amod G-19 Ext.

Where the mining area is surrounded by trees, chirping birds, small water body

attracts several Egrets who dive for eating fish for their survival. Such type of

developmental model in the lap of nature is rarely seen.

We always believe in planting trees and ensure its survival afterwards. Moving in

line with it Lignite Project, Rajpardi has observed 69th Van Mahotsav from 10th July to

27th July 2018. The tradition of celebration of Van Mahotsav is followed here with

great enthusiasm and vigor.

Apart from distribution plantation was also carried out by Sarpanch of Group Gram

Panchayats in the places important for community such as Schools, Panchayat Office,

Public Health centre etc. We follow the practice of distribution of fruit bearing

plants to the nearby villages surrounding the mines of Amod G-19 Ext. Lignite Mine

in order to connect people with nature and make them aware about the importance

of trees in our life. Even a feeling of belongingness develops among them after

nurturing the plants by themselves.
