I deem it a privilege to stand before you to present the Annual report for the academic year 2013-2014. Founded in June 2006 Wavoo Wajeeha Women’s College having its primary objective is to provide higher education to the girls in the rural area is keen in giving education to all and to Muslim girls in particular. This is a effort of a family Wavoo, particularly our founder president Alhaj S. Seyed Abdur Rahman with a strong will and a deep worship now showering wisdom to the womenfolk in and around Kayalpatnam. More than one thousand girl students have enrolled themselves with a strong mind to put in effort and gain knowledge which is the greatest power in the world. Staff: There are 50 committed staff in the college,12 in the faculty of English, 4 in Economics, 6 in BBA, 8 in Commerce, 5 in Mathematics, 5 in Computer Science, 5 in Information Technology, 3 in Tamil, 1 in Arabic studies and 1 in the Library of whom 1 is a Ph.D holder and 38 are M.Phil

Learned Chief guest Dr. N. Manjula, the Dean, Thiyagarajar School of

management, Madurai, respected members of the management, parents,

friends, faculty members, and my dear students,

I happily and heartily welcome you all this morning to the 8 th

academic day of our college. I deem it a privilege to stand before you to

present the Annual report for the academic year 2013-2014.

Founded in June 2006 Wavoo Wajeeha Women’s College having its

primary objective is to provide higher education to the girls in the rural area

is keen in giving education to all and to Muslim girls in particular. This is a

effort of a family Wavoo, particularly our founder president Alhaj S. SeyedAbdur Rahman with a strong will and a deep worship now showering

wisdom to the womenfolk in and around Kayalpatnam. More than one

thousand girl students have enrolled themselves with a strong mind to put in

effort and gain knowledge which is the greatest power in the world.

Staff:

There are 50 committed staff in the college,12 in the faculty of

English, 4 in Economics, 6 in BBA, 8 in Commerce, 5 in Mathematics, 5 in

Computer Science, 5 in Information Technology, 3 in Tamil, 1 in Arabic

studies and 1 in the Library of whom 1 is a Ph.D holder and 38 are M.Phil

holders. 4 staff members have got through the NET / SLET examinations. 11

staff members are pursuing their Ph.D. The law related papers are taught

with the assistance of part time lawyer. The college office functions with the

fullest enthusiasm. There are 38 non teaching staff to assist the college

activities.

Infrastructure:

The college has enough and more of all the necessary infrastructures

prescribed by the university. The college has over 5 acres replat with the

basic facilities. There are individual air conditional laboraties for computer

science and information technology departments which are fully equipped

with Intel dual core systems with high speed LAN and internet connection

accessible from the server.

The college has a well furnished library with a facility for E-Learning.

The physics laboratory, a equipped seminar hall, prayer halls, a spacious

playground, drinking water with R.O System facility adds feather to the capin the infra structure of our college. The conveyance facility is met then and

there immediately and thus both the students and staff are much benefited.

Our college authorities headed by our founder president who is a benevolent

personality who dreams about the development of the college never hesitates

to fulfill the needs and requirements which is a boon to us.

College Union Activities:

With the strength of 1047 students the College union activities started

with the orientation for the I year students on 24.06.13. The college union

office bearers were elected in the computerized method of voting on

05.07.13. S.N. Seerin Sithara of III BBA, was elected as the Chair person,

L.Sugantha, II BBA., Joint Chair Person, H.A.C.Aysha Sameena II maths as

the Secretary and A. Seethi Jafrin I Maths as the Joint Secretary. Mrs. S.

Mathumathi IAS, Commissioner, Thoothukudi corporation inaugurated the

college union activities on 08-07-2013.and oath taking ceremony was held.

67 th Independence Day was celebrated and Mrs. P.Sophia Persis

M.A.,M.Phil.,B.Ed., Department of English, Nazerath Margoschis College,

Pillayanmanai, was the chief guest and hoisted the tricolour flag. A

personality development meeting was arranged for all the students on

23.08.13. The topic was “Life Skill” and Mr. Jegan and Mr.Arun from Tynn

soft organization, Bangalore were the resource persons. Teachers’ Day was

celebrated on 05.09.13.

As per the instruction from the district collector the film

“tz; zj; Jg; G+r;rp” was screened on 23.09.13. On 27.02.13 a general

meeting on the topic “Women and Education” was arranged and the chief

guest was Mr.M.Arkam Noormith.

On 11.01.14 Miladinabi celebrations went on well and ProfessorMohammed Rafeek M.A.,M.Phil.,Ph.D.,, Asstistant Professor in Tamil, Haji

Karutharavuthar Howdiya College, Uthamapalayam gave an interesting

speech. On 11.01.14 pongal festival was celebrated in the college.

Republic Day was celebrated in a grand manner and Mrs. D.Hallen,

Assistant Professor of English, Sivanthi Adithanar College of Education was

the chief guest.

A human chain was organized for Voter awareness on 18.03.14 and

while Mrs. Bella the project officer was the chief guest the RDO and

Thasildar from Thiruchendur and other government officials took part in it.

A rally was conducted on 19.03.14 and more than 700 students took part in

it. It was flaged off by our president and I will fail in my duty if I do not

register the support given by the management particularly our asst. secretary.

Association Activities

“Invinsible Armada” the English literary association started to

function from 03.07.2013 with an orientation for I year students and

Prof.K.Xavier Amalraj Former Head, Department of English, Aditanar

College, Tiruchendur, gave an enlightening speech. It also organized six

lectures on Translation of Bharathidasan’s Poem, Journalism, Shakespearean

criticism, Lingustics, and An introduction and a critical study on Ruskin’s

“unto this lost” on 07.09.2013, 10.10.2013, 11.10.2013, 19.02.2014 and

08.03.2014 respectively.

Computer Science :

The Apex association of computer science department had it’s

inaugural meeting on 04.09.13 and professor S.Sethuramalingam, Head,

Department of Computer science, Aditanar college of arts &science,Thiruchendur was the chief guest. On 06.03.14 Mrs. R. Prabhamanieswari

MCA.,M.Phil., Associate Professor, Govindammal Adithanar college for

women, Thiruchendur gave a lecture on the topic Fuzzy sets & Fuzzy logic.

Dr.P.Thomas Wilfred Edison M.Com.,M.Phil.,Ph.D,Associate

Professor in Commerce, TDMNS College, Kallikulam, inaugurated the

commerce association on 24.7.2013.The topic was Marketing and

Personality. On 06.12.2014 & 07.12.14 commerce association conducted

various competitions such as spell check, Poster Making, Product Launch

and dum charades.

In this academic year the Commerce department has entered into a

new venture of releasing a journal namely “Commerce Chronicle” and it has

added another feather to the cap of the department. Dr.C.Thilakam

M.Com.,M.Phil.,Ph.D.,DCA.,Head and professor,Department of Commerce

MS University, Thirunelveli released the journal and our founder president

received the first copy While congratulating the commerce department. I

wish to thank our management with gratitude for it’s generosity shown in

this new effort.

B.B.A:

The Busy Bee Association of Business Administration Department

was inaugurated on 31.07.2013 and Dr.Vijaykumar,Director MBA,

Mohammed Sadak Engineering College, Kilalarai took part and presented a

lecture on “Leadership transforms potential into reality”. On 28.2.2014

Dr.A.Vijay Deputy Manager (Training) DCW, Sahupuram was the resource

person and gave a lecture on “Time Management”

Mathematics:

The Mathematics association was inaugurated on 14.08.2013 and

Dr.M.Velrajan M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Head of the Department of

Mathematics, Aditanar College of arts and science, Tiruchendur gave a

lecture on Group Theory. The next meeting was on 28.09.2013 in which

Prof.G.Ramalakshmi M.Sc., M.Phil., Associate Professor in Mathematics ,

Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi gave a lecture on “Graph Theory”. On

10.09.2013 numerical ability test was conducted for all Maths students.

Tamil:

The ckWg; Gyth; Kj; jkpo; kd;wk; had its inauguration on

22.07.2013 and Dr.Kandasamy M.A.,M.Phil.,Ph.D.,Head of the Department

of Tamil, Kamaraj College, Tuticorin participated.

On 16.12.13 Bharathi Day was celebrated and Dr.Baskarapaul

pandian M.A.,M.A.,M.Phil.,Ph.D, Former Head of the Department of Tamil,

Aditanar College, delivered a lecture. “World Mother Tongue day” was

celebrated on 12.03.2014 and Principal Dr.Mrs.V.Sasikala vividly explained

about the day. Voters awareness debate was organized on 12.03.2014 and

Dr.G.Kathiresan M.A.,M.Phil.,Ph.D., Department of Tamil, Aditanar

College, Thiruchendur was the chief guest.

The Tamil Association conducted the Thirukkural test on behalf of

world Thirukkural association on 24-01-2014 and also the essay writing

competition on 13-12-2013. On 27.12.2013 it conducted a poem reciting

competition on Bharathi’s Birthday.

Arabic:The Arabic department motivated the students and SAC Durath

Masoona II B.Sc maths and A.Fathima Rifka of III B.Sc maths received the

first and second prizes respectively for the competitions conducted by the

Mahlaras Milad Rasool committee on 04.01.14. In the same competition B.

Muthu Katheeja bagged the II prize among PG students.

On 08.02.14 in the state level competition conducted by the Muslim

students association M.Ahamad Jilpha bagged the III prize and received a

cash award of Rs.3000/- and B.Muthu katheeja II M.Com , A.FathimaRifka

II maths, S.A.C Durath Masoona II maths bagged the consolation prizes and

received a cash prize of Rs.2000/- each

On 10.02.14 ‘Kipla’ the monthly journal on the eve of Miladinabi,

conducted a state level Quiz competition and M.A.K. Rabiyathul

Mubasshara of III IT won the I prize and received a cash award of Rs.3000/-

and also a shield.

On 20.11.13 Annai Hajira Women’s College and Alkuran Foundation

jointly conducted a state level essay competition and S.I.Fathima Rifka of II

IT, M. Ayusha Nasooha of III B.Com, S.Muthu Fazeela Barveen of II

B.Com and M.A. Jubaidha Najhath of II B.Com received consolation prizes

and a cash award of Rs.2000/-

IT Department:

The Information Technology department had its inaugural meeting of

its association on27.08.13 and Dr.C.Velayanthan Dept. of computer science

Aditanar college of Arts & Science, Thiruchendur was the chief guest. The

association also organized, a meeting on the topic “Virus and firewalls” on

21.02.14 and the resource person was Mr.Maharajan of A.V.Computers,

Thiruchendur.

Economics:

Prof.J.Amalanathan, Department of Economics, St.Xaviers College,

Palayamkottai inaugurated the Economics association on 21.8.2013 and

gave a lecture on “Recent Trends in Indian Economy” Following this

Dr.Kathiravan, St.Johns College, Palayamkottai, Dr.S.V.L.MichaelM.A,M.Phil,Ph.D, Head of the Department of Economics, St.Xaviers

College, Palayamkottai, Dr.P.Prabhakaran,Aditanar College, Tiruchendur

Seminars:

The Department of Business Administration organized a seminar on

the topic “Interview Technique for Budding Managers’. On 21.09.13 and

110 students from 10 colleges participated in it.

The Department of Economics conducted a seminar on SPSS on 05-

10-2013 and 80 participants from 12 colleges took part.

The Department of English gave a start to conduct a one day

workshop on 07.01.14 on the topic Communication a Key to Change inwhich 107 students from 21 colleges and 5 schools participated.

The Computer Science and Information Technology departments

organized a seminar on 19.12.13 on the topic “Recent Trend in Computer

Techniques” in which 133 students from 13 colleges took part.

The Department of Mathematics conducted a one day seminar on 27-

01-2014 and the topic was “Latest Developments in Mathematics” in which

121 participants from 19 institutions participated. At this juncture it is my

bounden duty to thank the management for the support given to the

departments.

University Ranks:

God Almighty has blessed me with the opportunity to pronounce

proudly about the Rank holders of our college. In this fifth batch of our

noble institution there are 42 Rank holders who have prove themselves and

make us all to say happily that this is the year of medals with ranks.

In Arabic our student, N.S.H. Yasmine Farhana has got the University

Rank. S.N. Ahamad Halima stands first in the rank list in computer science.

Both these students were honoured by the M.S University and they received

gold medals from Dr.Rosaiya, His excellency the Governor of Tamilnadu.

Other than this 4 students from Mathematics department, 10 students

from English department, 4 students from BBA department, 10 students

from computer science, 12 from IT, one from B.Com, 1 PG student from

English department have brought laurels to the college by receiving

university ranks.

Scholorships:

The Adi Dravida Welfare Department, Thoothukudi has sanctioned

scholarships to 95 students to the tune of Rs. 568750.00 (Five lakhs sixty

eight thousand and seven hundred and fifty) Minority scholarship to the tune

of Rs. 16, 20,000 (sixteen lakhs twenty thousand) has been received for 270

students. One hundred and two students have applied for uzhavar

scholarships and the expected amount is Rs. 25,500 (twenty five thousand

and five hundred) rupees. The central sector scholarship is yet to be

sanctioned for 18 students and the amount to each student is Rs. 10000/-

Library:

Self education is the primary expectation for higher studies. A well

equipped library is an essential infrastructure in a higher education

institution. I feel very proud to pronounce that our college library has seven

thousand books for its credit. There are also 17 current journals both in

English and Tamil and 23 magazines.

Various competitions were conducted for students on Library Day and

the newly introduced one is book criticism – (E}y; kjpg; Giu) On 17.03.14

the library department conducted a special guest lecture which was delivered

by Dr.Chellappa, Head of the dept of Tamil, MDT, Hindu college,

Thirunelveli.

At this juncture the college management is thankfully appreciated for

providing e-library facilities inside the campus. for the staff and students.

Physical Education:

Sports activities are encouraged in our college. Students are much

interested in all the sports activities. Regular classes are allotted to the

students to enable them to be fit physically.

8th sports day was celebrated in a grand manner on 14.03.14 and Dr.T.

Thanalakshmi B.Com.,M.PEd.,Ph.D., Department of Physical Education,

Dr.Sivanthi Athithanar college of physical education was the chief guest.

Students proved their enthusiasm in march past, mass drill and in atheletic

events also. The overall championship was won by the Emerald house.

Quiz Club:

The Quiz club organized General knowledge test on 19.09.13 Quiz

club has taken much pains to train the students and motivate them to take

part in Quiz competitions. The Young Pioneer Association, Arumuganeri

conducted Quiz competitions on 28.02.13 and 29.02.13 and V.Steffi Joy III

IT and J.S. Hairum Nisha III IT were the runners.

On 22.02.14 in the state level Quiz competition conducted at Pope’s

college sawyerpuram our students bagged the III prize and received a cash

award of Rs.2000/- I wish to thank the Ms. Subha, Ms. Sudha, Ms.

Nalayiram, & Ms. Bhuvaneswari for their guidance.

Industrial Visit:The III BBA students went to Thirunelveli on 03.07.13 and visited

Ave Ice cream factory, Tirunelveli. On 20.12.13 they visited Idhayam

gingely oil pvt.ltd. Virudhunagar.

On 04.07.13 the III Commerce and II M.Com students visited Ave ice

cream factory, Thirunelveli. On 07.09.13 III B.Com along with the PG

students visited Maris association pvt.ltd., Tuticorin.

Apart from the syllabus coverage the departments are taking special

care to introduce industries and I congratulate these departments.

NSS:

The NSS unit of our college is taking special care in promoting the

service mindedness among our students. On 30.08.13 Dr. Mrs. C. V.Mythini

Associate Professor in Chemistry, Rani Anna Government College for

Women, Tirunelveli gave an oriention to the NSS students. On 05.08.2013,

5 NSS students attended the Disability Management camp in Rani Anna

Government College for Women, Tirunelveli conducted by the university.

World literacy day was observed and on 07.09.2013 and Dr. K.Kathiresan,

Dept of Tamil, Athithanar College, Thiruchendur addressed the students.

The NSS unit of our college joined hands with YRC and conducted the

Blood donation camp and 68 students on 17.09.13 donoted the blood. On20.09.2013 Dr. Kathiravan, Department of Economics, St.John’s College,

Palayamkottai gave a lecture on ‘The Use of competitive examinations’. On

Gandhi Jeyanthi day the NSS students visited Anbu Illam in Adakkalapuram

along with the Principal. On 25.10.2013 Mr. Roose from Kahira Indane

distributer did a demonstration on “Effective prevention and awareness of

fire” to the NSS students.113 students and six staff members took part in a

human chain conducted by Tulir on 09.12.13. On 22.02.14 the NSS unit

visited Amarseva sangam, Ayikudi. 3 students from our NSS unit took part

in the one day Training programme in Aditanar college of Arts & Science,

Thiruchendur, conducted by the District Aids Control and Safety

Management.

On 13.08.14 a oneday Aids awarness camp was conducted to the NSS

students and Mr.Baskar Pani Rajan addressd the meeting. The Red Ribbon

Club of the college organized this meeting and a case study was done. Apart

from the routine work, the NSS unit of our college successfully conducted

the special camp for 7 days in Poochikadu village and 50 students

participated in it. Our NSS volunteers created awareness in various spheres

such as education, health, sanitation, health and hygene.

To add a feather in the cap of NSS, our college NSS programme

officer Mrs. Surath Sheeba attended a 7 days orientation programme in

Avinasilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore.

I sincerely thank her and particularly Miss.Subha M.Sc.,M.Phil.,

lecturer in mathematics for the sincere efforts in bringing up the NSS

students.

Women Cell:Women cell was fortunate enough to have Thiru.K.Allaudin IAS(Rtd)

as the guest speaker who gave an inspiring speech on the topic ‘Educated

women marching towards National Development’ on 29.06.13.

The second meeting was conducted on 16.09.13 and Dr.Cynthia

Thambiraj MBBS.,DGO, KMT hospital addressed our students and her

lecture was on the topic’ cz; kpf tpUk;G ”

International Womens’ Day was well planned and various

competitions were conducted for the students. Slogan writing on the topic

Violence against Women, elocution on the topic Women I like most, essay

writing on the topic “Women Empowerment”, and poster presentation on the

topic “Working Women” were conducted from 5 th to 8 th march 2014. A

general meeting was arranged and the Principal Dr.V.Sasikala gave the

special address explaining about the womens day while the director

Dr.Mercy Henry felicitated the function. It was very interesting to observe

that both staff and students performed programmes on the same stage where

women were the centre theme. On 11.03.14 Mrs.Dharmakkani M.A., and her

group conducted street plays about girl child discrimination and violence

against women. A thought provoking talk was given by Ms.Dharmakkani.

Consumer Club:

The Consumer Club of our college organized a meeting on

“Consumer Protection” in which Dr. Abdul Karim M.Com.,B.Ed. M.A.,

Ph.D., Associate Prof in Commerce dept, Sadakathullah Appa College,

Palayamkottai delivered a lecture. on 12-09-2013. On the topic “Consumer

Awareness “ Dr. S.L.V.Michael M.A.,M.Phil., Ph.D. Head of the Dept of

Economics St.Xaviers College, Palayamkottai gave a lecture on 14-02-2014.

I thank Mrs. Ayisha who is in charge of it.

YRC:

The Youth Red Cross activities of our college started on 20-07-13

with a lecture on “Yoga for health” by Mrs. Krishnaveni, Manavalakalai

Mandram, Thoothukudi. On 16.9.2013 YRC conducted a medical camp and

blood identification camp in which Dr. Shanthi from blood bank.

Thoothukudi took part. A blood donation camp was organized on 17-09-

2013 in which students, teaching and non teaching staff donated blood. Mrs

.M.Subbulakshmi. IRCS life member, Bishop Caldwell College,

Thoothukudi, gave a lecture on “India’s Wealth and Youth Strength”. The

YRC on 26-09-2013 organized a meeting on “Cyber Crime” in which 4

lawyers from Tiruchendur court participated. On 26-02-2014 Dr. Amuthan

Govt. Medical College, Thoothukudi gave a program on “Cancer

Awareness” in which the students actively participated and interacted.

YRC of our college was appreciated much and awarded by the Indian

Association for blind on 15-02-2014 with the award “IAB blind

Empowerment Champions 2014 Silver zone for its generosity. At this

juncture I appreciate Miss. Malini of Commerce department for taking

special efforts to develop YRC in our college.

YRC Coordinator Miss. I. Malini of Commerce department attended

the 3 day Zonal level Orientation Training Programme conducted for the

YRC programme officers by the M.S.University.

Eco Club:

The Eco Club activities of the academic 2013-2014 started with the

introductory note about eco club by the Principal on 26-6-13. On 20-09-13Mr.T.Bharathi, Associate Director of the seed Certification Department,

Tiruchendur gave a lecture on “The Herbal Garden” Mr.C.NellaiNayagam”

Forest Range Officer, Tiruchendur, conducted a workshop to the eco club

students on 06-03-2013. I wish to thank Ms. Bama, Ms. Japhia, Ms.

Sathiyabama, Ms. Blessy, Ms. Freeda, Ms. Helen who are the staff incharge.

EDC:

On 26.12.13 Mr.S.Balasubramanian M.Com, FIT, ICWA, MD, of

Mathrix life pvt.limited gave an enlightened talk on “Women as an

Entreprenur”. The feedback session in the afternoon was appreciable.

5 of our staff members attended the 5 days workshop conducted by

the EDC of M.S.University from 24.09.13 to 28.09.13 in university campus.

I thank Mrs.Mumtaj Begum, Mrs.Amutha, Mrs. Angel Latha, Mrs.Surath

Sheeba, Miss. Sowmya and Miss. Rajalakshmi, for attending the workshop.

Placement Cell:

The placement cell of our college is actively functioning to find out

suitable careers for our students. It conducted a meeting on 17.12.13 and Mr.

Anand, Jals career consultant brought a proposal for Hinduja Global

solutions. The final year students attended a lecture on the topic “How to

attend an interview”, by Mrs.Gayathri MBA(HR) Indian School of Science

and Management, Chennai. 75 Students appeared for the interview held in

our campus and 46 students were selected by the above said company. On

08.01.14 Principal felicitated the selected students and on 03.02.14 our

founder president distributed the offer letters to 46 students. Earlier the

parents were invited and the placement cell conducted an interactive session

with them. Just to assist our students to perform better in their mockinterview the placement cell arranged a meeting in which Mrs.S.ARahmath

Ameena Begum HOD BBA gave a talk on Effective Interview techniques.

The placement cell has very many plans and the support and

encouragement from the parents is very much expected. At this juncture I

congradulate Mrs. Rahmath Ameena Begum, Ms. Hameed Thamina Beevi

for their tireless work.

women and children were screened. Interaction between staff and alumnae

was fruitful. The new office bearers Miss. Zulaiha Adhila BBA., and Miss

Muthu Lakshmi B.A., were electd president and secretary respectively.

Parents Teachers Association:

PTA meeting was held on 30-09-2013 for III years and for I and I year

students on 01-10-2013, respectively and 914 parents attended the same. Our

founder President Alhaj S. Seyed Abdur Rahman presided over the meeting.

The welcome address was given by the Principal and our secretary Wavoo

M.M. Mohuthazeem and assistant Secretary Wavoo SAR Ahmed Ishaque,

graced the meeting with their presence. The interaction among the parents

teachers and the managements was much beneficial.

Future Plan:

A new under graduate program namely Tamil major with ComputerApplication has been planned to begin from forthcoming academic year.

The management has an intension to construct an auditorium and a

smart room with all facilities to host the academic programs.

UGC. Minor projects are very much encouraged and each UG

department will be planning at least one each while the P.G. department two.

The Tamil department has planned to have a three day program

getting the support from the centre for classical languages Chennai. Certain

extra courses are also under consideration.

I profoundly thank our management committee for its continuous and

strong support and guidance in all spheres in running this institution

successfully.

I congratulate all the students the real heroines who have

accomplished well in their academics, co curricular and extra curricular

activities thereby bring name and fame to the college day by day. I

appreciate all the teaching staff for their hard work and their readiness to do

the work as and when the time requires. I thank the non-teaching staff for

their efficient and timely co-operation in the administrative strategies.

By the grace of God Almighty and our sincere prayers let us all hope

that our efforts in forthcoming days will be more blessed. I thank the

Parents, well wishers and friends of the institution for their continuous

support in our endevours.
