Consequently, if you are not in class, you will be missing part of your participation grade. In case of an unforeseen emergency, MECHS must grant an excused absence for make-up work to be approved. If you plan on being absent, please make arrangements with me to turn in assignments prior to the time you will be out. A NO ditching policy will be strictly enforced. If you are having college related issues, please come and talk to me before you consider ditching class. Make-up assignments will be assigned and expected within a reasonable time frame at the discretion of the instructor after an excused absence. NO late work will be accepted. Make up exams will be given on a case-by-case basis and may vary from those that are regularly scheduled. All projects assigned are due on or before the due date without exception.

VI. Classroom Conduct

Students are expected to behave as young adults in a college environment. Disruptions will not be tolerated during class lecture and discussion. Do not abuse the use of cell phones, music players, and other portable entertainment devices! These are strictly prohibited during class lectures and discussions. All students must ask permission to use the restroom facilities. One student is allowed in the restroom at a time. Visits to the candy or soda machines are not allowed during lecture. You will not be allowed to go to the office or counselors office unless you are called to leave the classroom or under special circumstances. If you are feeling sick, you may ask to go to the nurse.

NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR GUM WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM, NEAR OR AROUND THE COMPUTERS. DRINKS WITH A LID ARE ALLOWED AT THE INSTRUCTORS DISCRETION.

VII. Scholastic Dishonesty

Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties on assignments or exams and disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating, copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination. Determination of academic dishonesty shall be based on the computerized system used for your homework, instructors judgment or other supervising employee, taking into consideration written materials, observation, or information from other students.

STUDENTS WHO CHEAT WILL RECEIVE A ZERO ON THE ASSIGNMENT, PROJECT, QUIZ, OR EXAM. NO MAKE-UP WORK WILL BE GIVEN.

For the protection of privacy and identity, it is the students responsibility to LOG OFF of the computers in the lab and their laptop.

If a student is caught cheating with another student (for example student gives their project to another student), both students will receive a Zero and parents will be notified.

VIII. Bell Ringer

Students are required to practice their typing skills at least 15 minutes every class period. You will be allowed to complete this task at the beginning of class and graded based on your completion and not accuracy. A time limit of 15 minutes will be given and it is your responsibility to arrive to class on time and be ready or you will be penalized for incomplete time.

IX. Class Procedures

Notes

All students are expected to take notes during lectures and class discussion. Interactive notebooks will be graded during the ninth week period. Students will be required to hand-write all notes. No printed notes will be accepted and will receive a grade of zero. Procedure on setting up your notebook will be displayed in class.

Group Projects

One of the most important characteristics of successful business leaders is their ability to work in groups. This class will include some group work in which group members will be graded both as a group and individually. As a business student, you need to be responsible for making valuable contributions to your group and work towards a common goal. Group members will evaluate each other at the end of a given project. Your grade will be penalized if your group members and/or the instructor assess that you have not been meeting the requirements of your group assignment on a regular basis.

Exams and Quizzes

Notes and other study materials may be used on certain exams. The instructor will provide more details before each exam. Nine weeks exams may include a project component.

Students with Disabilities: If you have or believe you may have a disability, see me privately after class, or during conference period for a confidential conversation. If you have specific learning, attention, psychological, or physical disabilities and require accommodations, please let me know early in the school year, so that your learning needs may be appropriately met. All information will be kept confidential in accordance to section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004.
