1. Copeland Patient Group – LD updated the group

NR & LD attended the Copeland Patient Group in June and the next meeting is August.

Privacy in the waiting area

2. Transport LC – apologies but sent the following email

Update on the new Microbus  - A new minibus has been ordered to replace the current minibus and quotations are being sought for a new Microbus.  This will be an eight passenger seat vehicle that can carry a wheelchair user.  It will be used as a local 'rail a ride' to get to the Surgery, station, shops, visit friends, etc.  There is a small group working on how it will be organised, and offered of help will be gratefully accepted.

Actions- LC to talk to existing service models (Distington) and LD to explore linking booking system to existing Surgery appointments system.

Action – all - Seek volunteers to drive and training will be given to operate wheelchair lift. Drivers would be for half days, 9.30-12.30 and 12.30-5.

3. Accessibility in surgery

Taken AW advice and implemented the bell for patients who need help opening the door. Practice staff now actively searching for patients with communication needs to ensure we provide choice and meet the requirements of the Accessible information standard. Practice staff had undergone training with West Cumbria Society for the Blind in July.

4. Practice update

LD updated the group about the ongoing problems regarding Finances in General practice confirmed that although The Practice is about to be inspected by CQC and all members were encouraged to provide their views to the inspection team.

The practice is considering a range of future options and this may include:

Work with other practices to reorganise/ sharing functions;

Seek opportunities to access funds for vulnerable practices

Work differently within the team and also with the Community teams

Seascale and Bootle Patient Participation GroupApply for premises improvements and business case for new building to meet modern expectations. The practice had submitted 3 applications for funding for premises:

1 a new build at Seascale

2 to improve Seascale with technology

3 for a mobile bus service to provide our services to patients who might struggle to get to the surgery.

We are awaiting confirmation if any of these applications have been successful

5. Patient letter review and new patient booklet – how to get the best from our services

VS provided changes to the 3 stage letters for the Recall of patients with long term conditions. This would now be used for all chronic diseases and included a questionnaire on the back to prepare patients for their appointments

The new brochures had received a number of corrections and the Charity committee had agreed to fund the cost of printing. This would be released in the early Autumn

6. AOB

Members of the group had attended a number of public meetings regarding the proposed changes/options at West Cumberland Hospital. The Success Regime consultation period is now extended and consultation ends mid Dec 2016
