A Message from Father David
Palms may be picked up by the faithful any time after Noon on Sunday in
our respective parishes. You may pick up your Blessed Palms anytime
during open hours up until Holy Thursday. We will hold onto them for
parishioners who didn’t get any Palms during this time at the St. James
Parish office (e.g. snowbirds, people who work during this time) for an
indeterminate amount of time.
There will be no Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during the day. The
altar of repose will be held that night (Holy Thursday) from 8pm to
Midnight in the cafeteria at St. James for all parishioners. Please call
Aggie or Becky to sign up for a time to come and pray before Jesus so that
we know someone is going to be there. You do not have to call to make a
visit or pray for an hour. I would like a good number of parishioners to be
in the cafeteria when I bring Jesus into the Altar of Repose (cafeteria) at
8pm. Thank you.
I will hear confessions all that week at the regularly scheduled times, with
the exception of Good Friday at Holy Family at 5:30-6:30 (no confession
then). Remember that if you call or text me I will set up a time to hear
your confession privately.
The Upper Room for Families is ready (has been ready) for families from
the parish to do on their leisure. An explanation for the Upper Room for
families accompanies the first month’s edition on the Parish Website.
I hope and pray all are doing well during this time of confinement and
uncertainty. I hope you feel the pain of loneliness and loss without the
presence of the Church and Sacraments. It is a real pain. It is a tangible
loss. If these emotions are not real for you I feel sad for the Church. I
hope that your desire to wed yourself to the Church and the Sacrament
(when all this is over) will be profoundly different. Abundantly more clear.
More refined (like gold). Exceedingly and inexplicitly zealous. Like never
before. I hope you see now, that without the Eucharist, you are a shell of
your true self.
Now Jesus has not abandoned you. Notice I said the “Church and the
Sacraments.” You have Jesus and He has you. He is with you. I hope you
have been praying more zealously, more fervently, more faithfully. This
alone can drive you further forward on your sojourn with the Lord. But if
your prayer doesn’t excite you to greater forms of Love and Service and
Faith… nothing will! Our prayer lives must deepen every part of our being
and they must lead us to Communion with Him.
Think of this time like the time spent in the Upper Room with the fearful
and confused Apostles. Their Lord, Teacher, Friend and Love; He was
being tortured and abused in every way. He was abandoned and they
couldn’t move towards Him… from fear. The fruit of Satan. They received
bits of information about what he was enduring and they could do nothing
but be still, in their room … unable to act… unable to be with Jesus.
Except for Mary, and John and Mary Magdalene, Jesus was alone. We will
come out of that room, that space of fear and self-preservation. And we
(you) will rejoice. And go. Into the world with the Spirit of God, His Holy
Spirit. And we (you) will live again. The question is: will your faith be
stronger? I hope and pray it will.
More to come…

Prayer of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that you are
in the Blessed Sacrament. I love
you above all things, and I long
for you in my soul. Since I
cannot now receive you
sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. As
though you have already come, I
embrace you and unite myself
entirely to you; never permit me
to be separated from you. Amen
-St. Alphonsus de Liguori
On Good Friday, only one
full meatless meal is
allowed. Two other
smaller meatless meals,
sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken
according to each one's
needs, but together they
should not equal another
full meal. Eating between
meals is not permitted on
these two days, but
liquids, including milk
and fruit juices are
allowed. When health or
ability to work would be
seriously affected, the
law does not oblige.
