HOW DOES YOUR MAGAZINE TARGET THE MARKET DEMOGRAPHIC?AGE: Through looking at my magazine construction, you could argue that ‘age’ is targeted by the use of my models, presented on my front cover, double page spread and contents page. Their ages are varied between 16-20, which was a popular age group that took part in my survey, proving to have a great interest in music and music magazines. The format also targets my chosen market demographic as they surveyed having red, black and white as the colour scheme of my magazine. They agreed that it would be eye-catching and draw each others attention.

GENDER: The artists featured on my magazine are mostly female, this could be due to the idea of ‘soul’ being a genre mostly associated with females. The results of my survey proved that almost 90% of people who took part were female. Although within this I hope that it still applies to both male and females as male artists and groups are featured within the rest of the magazine.

HOW DOES YOUR MAGAZINE TARGET THE MARKET DEMOGRAPHIC?ETHNICITY: Ethnicity could target the market demographic due to the models being of different ethnicities and possibly cultures. This almost subverts from the idea of Soul music being popular amongst black Afro-Caribbean’s as the model on my front cover is of mixed descent. This is also proves that my magazine doesn’t discriminate against the market demographic. The language used is simple, standard English and with English being an international language readers of the magazine will have minimal/no difficulty.

CLASS: After my target audience completed my market research, I came to the conclusion that they were willing to pay between £0-2.99. I then compared the price of my consumers choice and a popular soul magazine (Blues and Soul) which sell their magazines for £3.95, slightly over my preferred price range. Therefore I will be selling my magazine for £2.99 so that it will be affordable for my target audience and all classes.

IDEAL READERSHIP PROFILE The target market is between 16-20 years old, therefore my ideal readership profile is a young-adult aged 18. She would be interested in Soul music and preferably R&B, therefore it would be ideal for her to listen to Live 365. which caters to many soul stations. She would be very interested in the artist, ‘Cici Drake’ and would be eager to buy her new album featured on the contents page.

IDEAL READERSHIP PROFILE TV SHOWS:My target audience is still quite young therefore she would watch current up-to-date TV shows. With her great interest in music she would watch ‘Empire’ a new American musical drama television show. The show has a popular soundtrack album which features R&B, pop and hip-hop allowing my audience to listen to other genres as well as Soul. It’s cast is mainly black Afro-Caribbean, however it also features people of white and mixed descent.

IDEAL READERSHIP PROFILE SOCIAL MEDIA:My target audience will be quite active on social media probably due to her age. Although she wouldn’t be on all of them, possibly the most popular such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube etc. These logos were also part of my contents page so that my target audience can easily interact with the magazine.
