Who would be the audience for your media product?

Question four

Demographic• The Demographic of our audience would be around the age of

older teens, say, 19 years old, to 35. The reason for this being the fact that our film is an independent film; which mainly attracts an older sophisticated audience. But due to the fact our independent film is made by teens, and has a teen actor in the film, this may attract some teenagers. The website ‘independent cinema office’ explains how ‘teenage audiences (14-20 years) rarely attend’ independent films. As well as the age, the background to the demographic of our audience would mainly be British. This is because our film is an independent British film, not a major budget British film, and so therefore will only be screened in the UK. The film was filmed, edited, produced and acted in by British people, which won’t attract audiences outside of the UK.

How our film attracts our Audience

The teen as the protagonist in our film expands the audience to a younger range for independent films

Using mise en scene, we demonstrate him being a teen using clothing; we dress the protagonist in typical teenage clothing, which includes a hoodie, a beanie hat and jeans, and these clothes are dark as well.

Our Independent British actor, which isn’t as evident, also aims towards a mainly British audience

Psychographics• The Psychographics of our audience would consist of people mainly

interested in film, due to the fact that our film is an Independent British film. A general person who watches the odd blockbuster every now and then won’t be the audience of our independent British film, it would be someone who seeks to spend their time watching sophisticated films that aren’t well known. They believe they get more from those type of films for their artistic worth; they aren’t made for money but to express creativity. Our audience would refuse to follow society’s norms and conforming to what everyone likes, they don’t find they appreciate those films, like blockbusters because they don’t provide enough artistic worth. Our audience will feel this way about many things in their life, including other art forms such as Music and TV. They prefer films that are different; films that are unique in the way they express creativity, directors and cinematographers who play around with their talents.

How our film attracts our Audience

This attracts the psychographic of our film because, as with most of the camerawork in our film, the shot is unique and different; it is visually admirable. It’s a photographic shot that is very symmetrical and requires a talent in filming to execute, it isn’t typical. We attract our audience by using unique shots and expressing creativity, which isn’t found in blockbusters.

Using editing, we masked our film in a dark, shadow effect, which helps make our film dark but also visually enticing, which attracts our audience. Our soundtrack was also very unique in the way it was layered, which may also help as well
