Anne B. Kerr, Ph.D.College President

Since her appointment as Florida Southern College’s seventeenth president in 2004, Dr. Anne Kerr’s visionary leadership has enhanced the student experience on campus and increased the college’s national prominence. Under her direction, the institution has renewed its commitment to educate the whole

person—academically, socially, spiritually and physically—in order to insure that students leave prepared to make a positive and consequential impact on our world.

Early in her tenure, Dr. Kerr oversaw implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the College that was designed to enrich all facets of our student-centered culture. Opportunities for active learning and leadership were increased; innovative, engaged, and personalized instruction were prioritized; and the College’s scholar-athlete program became a national model for NCAA Division II athletic programs.

Recent college improvements include ongoing restoration projects on the Frank Lloyd Wright campus and the construction of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian House for use as a Tourism and Education Center, which will be the first Wright design built since 1966. Other new construction includes the two-building Barnett Residential Complex and the

Christoverson Humanities Building (all three designed by world-renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern), the McKay Archives Center, the Blanton Nursing Building, the Rinker Technology Center, and TûTû’s Café (located in the Roux Library). Further improvements include the complete renovation of the student dining facility (Wynee’s Bistro), residence hall and campus-wide technology upgrades, and acampus beautification project featuring dozens of interconnected plazas and gardens.

Dr. Kerr graduated from Mercer University and received her M.S. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. Prior to assuming the Presidency at Florida Southern, she served as Vice President for Advancement both at the University of Richmond and at Rollins College. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles, and currently serves on the boards of SunTrust Bank, All Saints’ Academy, EarthLinked Technologies, Inc., the Polk Museum of Art, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. She recently completed a two-year term as president of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference.

Dr. Kerr and her husband, Roy, have a seventeen-year-old son, Ed, who plays baseball for All Saints’ Academy. Dr. Roy Kerr is a retired professor of Spanish and a baseball historian, whose recent publications include The Loving of the Game: a Baseball Memoir (2007); Sliding Billy Hamilton: the Life and Times of Baseball’s First Great Leadoff Man (2010), and Roger Connor: Home Run King of Nineteenth-Century Baseball (2011).

Pete MeyerAthletic Director

Now in his fourth year (2011-12) as Director of Athletics at Florida Southern College, Pete Meyer saw Moccasin teams enjoy another successful year in 2010-11. The women’s golf team finished third at the NCAA Division II Championship; the swimming team claimed four individual event NCAA championships (Mary O’Sullivan – 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke, and the men’s 400-yard medley relay team); and twelve of FSC’s programs participated in NCAA postseason competition. FSC won Sunshine State Conference titles in men’s cross country (14th straight) and women’s basketball (regular season and SSC tournament), won the SSC women’s Mayors’ Cup, and tied for second in the men’s Mayors’ Cup.

That success combined to give the Moccasins a 19th-place finish, tops among SSC schools, in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports/NACDA Cup standings and their 10th top-25 finish in the program's history.

Meyer also returned to the coaching ranks in 2010-11, taking command of the baseball program 12 games into the season and guiding the Moccasins to a final season record of 32-15.

In 2009-10, FSC won its 12th NCAA men’s golf title and 27th

national title overall and produced its first national champion in swimming (Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke). Eleven programs were represented in NCAA postseason competition, with men’s golf, basketball and cross country teams capturing SSC titles.

In Meyer's first year as AD (2008-09), Moccasin teams produced three SSC championships (men's cross country, men's basketball, softball) and a fifth-place national finish in women's golf. Eleven FSC teams went to NCAA postseason competition.

Named to the AD position February 21, 2008, he officially assumed his duties July 1, 2008, when Lois Webb retired. In the fall of 2008, Meyer was given the additional title of Dean of Wellness, putting the operation of the Hollis Wellness Center, as well as the water ski program and campus intramurals under his direction. Meyer, who has been at Florida Southern since 1998, also served as assistant athletics director for Webb from February of 2006 until his AD appointment.

In his previous stint as baseball coach (2002-08), Meyer spent six full seasons as head coach, guiding the Moccasins to their ninth NCAA Division II national title in 2005 with a 51-11 record. His head coaching record at Florida Southern is 282-121-1, while his overall record as a head coach is 321-151-1. Thirty-eight Moccasin baseball players have been drafted or signed professional contracts during Meyer's tenure as head coach.

Before officially assuming the reigns of head baseball coach in June of 2002, Meyer had served for over three years as Florida Southern's top assistant coach under Chuck Anderson. He also was the program's recruiting coordinator.

Prior to joining the FSC coaching staff, Meyer spent five seasons at Valdosta State, working under legendary head coach Tommy Thomas. Before his stint at Valdosta State, Meyer was head baseball coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he coordinated the start of the school's Division III program in 1991. His Oglethorpe teams won Eastern Division titles in the SCAC in each of his two seasons (1992-93).

He served as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State from 1988-90, while earning his M. Ed. in physical education. A four-year baseball letterman at the College of Wooster in Ohio, Meyer graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in speech communication.

Meyer is married to the former Julie Newnum. The couple has three children - 23-year old Ross, 21-year-old Mitchell, who is enrolled at FSC, and 20-year old Megan, who attends Trinity University in Texas.

Head Coach Robbie DavisRobbie Davis is in his 16th year as

head women’s golf coach at Florida Southern College after being hired in February of 1997 to take over a program in only its second year of existence. Since then, Davis has guided the Moccasins to four NCAA Division II national titles, four national runner-up finishes, three third-place finishes, and 12 trips to the national finals overall. Going into the 2011-12

season, Davis has taken Florida Southern to NCAA postseason play, either at the regional or national level, 14 consecutive years. That represents the longest current streak in the country at the Division II level.

Even in the three seasons Florida Southern didn’t make itto the national finals as a team, Davis still had at least one player qualify as an individual. In 1997, when Davis took over in the middle of the year, three of his players earned individual bids, with Shanna Nagy finishing as the national runner-up. In 2006, Lindsey Bergeon also finished as national runner-up after earning an individual bid, as did Heather Burgner in 2008.

During Davis’ tenure at Florida Southern, the Moccasins have also had five individual national champions in addition to their four team championships. Nagy won the title in 1998 (after also winning in 1996 under former coach Lois Webb), beforeLisa Cave won medalist honors at the 1999 and 2000 national tournaments. Jana Peterkova then gave Davis and Florida Southern their fifth straight individual champion by winning the 2001 and 2002 national tournaments.

Altogether, Davis has had 12 different golfers finish in the top five of the NCAA National Finals, and the Lady Mocs have had at least one in the top ten during every year of their existence. The totals include five NCAA medalists, seven runners-up, and five third-place finishers, and no Division II coach has had more individual champions than Davis.

Under their current head coach, the Moccasins have also dominated the national poll, having never been ranked below #5 in the last 14 years. Even more recognition has come from Golf Digest, as the publication recently listed Florida Southern as one of only two Division II schools in the country ranked among its top 60 women’s golf programs, and one of only three in the top 100. That puts FSC in the top five percent overall.

What the Moccasins have done is even more amazing considering the competition they face in their own back yard. Since the NCAA split its college division postseason into separate Division II and Division III tournaments in 2000, a team from the Sunshine State Conference has won the national title every year; and in nine of those national tournaments, an SSC school has also been the runner-up. That includes each of the last two years, when Nova Southeastern, Rollins and FloridaSouthern finished 1-2-3 in both of them.

Even against that type of competition, Davis still finds a way for Florida Southern to normally come out on top. The Moccasins have won a total of 46 tournaments under Davis, including 23 in the last five years. Last year’s team won fivetournaments, finished second five times as well. In their other three tournaments during the 2010-11 season, the Lady Mocs finished third behind two Division I schools, and third at both the NCAA regional and national tournaments.

Florida Southern’s four national championships in women’s golf have all come under Davis, as has all four of the program’s runner-up finishes. Beginning in 1998, his first full season as head coach, the Moccasins began a streak of seven straight first- or second-place finishes, a feat surpassed by only one other women’s golf program at any collegiate level. Florida Southern won three of its national championships during that seven-year span, bringing home the title in 2000, 2001, and 2002. The Lady Mocs added their fourth national championship in 2007, the fourth most for any women’s golf team in any NCAA division.

The 2007 national championship team may have been the best team Davis has coached. Considering it was preceded by three other national championships, there’s at least room for debate. Nevertheless, the ’06-’07 team finished first or tied for first in eight of the 11 tournaments in which they played, setting a school record for wins in a season. They swept through the postseason, and finished behind only three other Division II schools all year long. It was no surprise then, that four of his players that year were named to the NGCA All-American team.

Altogether, Davis has had 38 All-Americans, including six players who have won that honor at least three times. That list includes recent graduates Jackie Barenborg, a 2-time All-American from 2005-08; Heather Burgner, a 3-time First Team All-American from 2006-09; and 4-time All-American Lindsey Bergeon, who also played at Florida Southern from 2005-08. All three former Moccasins went on to play on the LPGA Futures Tour, joining another Florida Southern graduate, Kim Goedecke, who had been on the tour since 2006.

Of the 38 All-American awards won by a Moccasin golfer since Davis became head coach, 24 have been First Team selections, 11 were Second Team and three were honorable mention. Last year saw Florida Southern have three First Team

All-Americans (Marianne Andersson, M.J. Audette and Emily Flanigan), the fourth time under Davis the Moccasins had at least that many. It was also the 13th year in a row Davis had at least two All-Americans and the seventh time in his tenure he had three or more. Altogether, the Mocs have had at least one All-American every year under Davis, and at least one First Team honoree in all but one of them. They’ve also started eachseason with at least one returning All-American, including this season with Audette now a senior.

Five Moccasin golfers have been named the NCAA Division II National Player-of-the-Year with Davis as their coach, most recently Pamela Feggans in 2005. Davis has also had two National Freshmen-of-the-Year, with current MoccasinSilvie Dittertova winning that honor in 2009.

The individual honors don’t stop there. Rachel Bell was the 2001 National Freshman-of-the-Year in addition to the overall Player-of-the-Year, and was the Sunshine State Conference Female Athlete-of-the-Year as well. She’s one of five Lady Moccasins named the SSC Golfer-of-the-Year under Davis, with Heather Burgner claiming the award most recently in 2009. No other women’s golf program in the SSC has had as many Player-of-the-Year awards as the Moccasins have had under Davis.

Florida Southern has also seen two of its women’s golfers listed as Honda Award finalists, an honor given to the top NCAA female athlete of the year. Lisa Cave made that prestigious list in 2000, and Jana Peterkova made it in 2002.

In addition to the individual honors won by his players, Davis has been named GolfWeek Magazine National Coach-of-the-Year three times (2000, 2001, and 2002), as well as the NGCA National Coach-of-the-Year twice (2002 and 2007). He’s also been selected as the NGCA South Region Coach-of-the-Year three times (2002, 2007 and 2009), and the SSC Coach-of-the-Year six times. The six SSC awards are the most for any women’s golf coach since the league adopted the sport in 1998-99, with his most recent honor coming in 2011. Davis won coaching awards at all three levels (conference, regional and national) in 2007.

The same year Davis won the coaching trifecta, he was also inducted into the Florida Southern Athletic Hall of Fame, joining two of his former players, Shanna Nagy and Lisa Cave.Since then, three other Davis protégés have moved into the hall, with Jana Peterkova becoming a member in 2008, Lisa Ball joining the list in 2009, and Rachel Bell earning induction in 2011.

A Lakeland native, Davis is a 1988 graduate of Lakeland High School, located less than a mile from Florida Southern College. He played collegiately at the University of Kentucky where he received his B.A. in Finance in 1993. While at Kentucky, Davis was a two-time Academic All-American as a junior and senior, and a three-time member of the SEC All-Academic Team. He twice won the Kentucky Intercollegiate Golf Championship. He still competes in amateur tournaments through the Florida State Golf Association and again qualified for the Florida State Amateur Championship in 2010. Davis won the event as a collegiate golfer in 1990.

Before coming to Florida Southern, Davis served as assistant golf coach at the University of Kentucky for one year before playing three years professionally on the Tommy Armour, Gary Player, Moonlight and Hooters Tours. He’s also served as a golf assistant at Lone Palm Golf Club, the primaryhome course of the Moccasins.

Robbie and his wife Joy live in Lakeland and have three daughters: Perry (11), Lucy (8) and Susie (6).

AN ACE IN THE HOLE! On May 4, 2004, Sarah Coleson made Florida Southern women’s golf history in Pace, Florida. The senior became the first, and so far only, Lady Moccasin to ace a hole when she needed just one shot on the par-three #5 at Stonebrook Country Club. It came in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament, and eventually helped the Lady Mocs to a second-place finish and a berth in the NCAA National Finals. Florida Southern earned that bid by finishing just one stroke ahead of third-place West Florida, and went on to finish as the national runner-up, something that may not have happened without Coleson’s historic shot.

Marianne Andersson was Florida Southern’s first CoSIDA Academic All-American in women’s golf, and earned that honor twice in her career. As a senior, she was also voted the Academic All-American of the year on the college division at-large team, and was also the first Florida Southern student-athlete in any sport to ever win an Elite 88 Award from the NCAA.

Shanna Nagy was the first player ever signed to play women’s golf at Florida Southern. She was a 4-time All-American, a 2-time National Player-of-the-Year and 2-time medalist at the NCAA College Division National Finals. In 2005, she became the first women’s golfer ever inducted into the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame, and that same year, was also inducted into the Florida Southern College Athletic Hall of Fame.

DID YOU KNOW? Before Robbie Davis took over as head women’s golf coach in the spring of 1997, the Moccasins were coached by Lois Webb, a charter member of both the Florida Southern College Athletic Hall of Fame and the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame. Webb earned that distinction primarily as head volleyball coach at Florida Southern from 1977-2000, and was inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame in 2003, but she was also the first coach for the women’s basketball program from 1977-82. She retired in 2008 after serving as Florida Southern’s athletic director for seven years.

State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of Champions”. Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence.

Sunshine State Conference member schools have won recent NCAA national titles (76 total) in baseball,

The SSC sponsors championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, softball and women’s rowing.

Last year saw the SSC add two more titles to the list when Nova Southeastern captured its third straight national championship in women’s golf, and Barry brought home the women’s tennis championship one year after its men won.

From 1996-99, the national tournament was combined with Division III, meaning that each year there has been a separate D-II championship, the SSC has claimed the title. There are more members of the SSC Hall of Fame from Florida Southern than any other school in the league, and three more were inducted in 2011 to bring that total to 44. The most recent inductees are men’s golfer Steve Paramore, softball player Wanda Graham, and women’s basketball player Lucresia West (pictured from left to right). Nine Moccasin representatives were inducted into the inaugural class in 1991-92, and FSC has had at least one inductee in 16 of the 19classes since the Hall’s inception. Of the 44 inductees, 30 have been student-athletes, while 10 have come from the coaching ranks, and four from administrative and staff positions.

Founded by the United Methodist Church, Florida Southern College is one of the oldest private colleges in the state, tracing its beginnings to a small seminary in Orlando in 1885. The tie to its founding church has remained constant and is today, a proud part of the College's heritage and a bright beacon for the future.

Florida Southern moved to Lakeland in the heart of Florida's citrus belt in 1922 and began the construction of a campus that would eventually become a national landmark. The beautiful 100-acre campus, on the north shore of Lake Hollingsworth, includes the world's largest collection of buildings by master architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Florida Southern’s West Campus, now known throughout the world, actually had its inception in the mind of Dr. Ludd M. Spivey, president of the college from 1925-1957.

In 1935 he conceived the idea of an ultra-modern campus, designed by the world's leading architect. Ground was broken two years later for the first building in the Wright collection, the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel.

What Frank Lloyd Wright created on the campus is amazing. His original work is still as modern and exciting as the newest buildings still on many architect's drawing boards. It is, perhaps, symbolic that the greatest concentration of his genius should be located at a small, private institution of higher learning. Perhaps he describes it best, "...out of the ground and into the light, a child of the sun...the college of tomorrow."

The Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center houses a full-sized basketball court, weight and aerobic rooms, and a student lounge and is adjacent to an NCAA regulation size swimming pool.

A grouping of three residence halls, the Publix Commons are close to just about everything on the Florida Southern campus. All three buildings offer suite-style living in which six students each have their own rooms and share a living area and bathroom. The Publix Commons also is home to Florida Southern’s Greek organizations.

Florida Southern’s recently renovated Water Dome, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, made its premiere performance on October 25, 2007. The Water Dome features 74 jets powering streams of water 45-feet into the air. It took almost 260,000 gallons of water to fill the basin of the dome and at full power 4,800 gallons are water are pumped per minute.

All of Florida Southern College’s residence halls offer wireless access in the common lobby areas and every room offers cable TV and is wired for internet access. In addition, wireless hotspots on campus include the Roux Library, TûTû’s Cyber Cafe (which offers Starbucks products), Wynee’s Bistro (our cafeteria), and the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center and pool area.

As one of the four original buildings on the FSC campus, Joseph-Reynolds Hall (“JR”) offers one of the best views on campus. It sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Hollingsworth. Community life is big here - the women of JR form groups within the building as a whole and also within the “wings” and smaller hallways. JR and its companion hall, Spivey, are located in the center of campus between Edge Hall and Ordway and serve mainly as first-year female residence halls.

Wesley Hall is one of two new twin residence halls at FSC, and opened in the fall of 2008. The second building, Nicholas Hall, opened in the fall of 2009. Each new residence hall includes 115 bedrooms with views of Lake Hollingsworth, meeting rooms, student lounges, kitchens, and study spaces.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN SECOND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE MAYORS’ CUP

The Mayors’ Cup recognizes competition in seven sports for men (soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming, golf, tennis and baseball), and nine sports for women (soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming golf, tennis volleyball, softball and rowing). Points in each sport are awarded by the number of schools sponsoring teams in the respective sports.

Last year saw Florida Southern win the women’s Mayors’ Cup for the 11th time, largely on the strength of its SSC title in basketball, and 2nd-place finishes in volleyball, swimming and golf.

Florida Southern has also won the men’s Mayors’ Cup 11 times, and nearly added to that total last year. The Mocs finished second to Barry by half a point.

DIRECTIONS TO FSC

From Orlando… I-4 West to exit 33. Turn left off exit, and turn right at second stoplight. Continue to major intersection at Memorial Blvd and turn left. Go 1/2 mile to Ingraham Avenue and turn right. Go to McDonald and turn right. Parking lot is on the left, just past Barnett Field.

From Orlando Airport… Take 417 South (toll road) to I-4West and follow directions above.

From Tampa/St. Petersburg… Follow I-4 East to Exit 27 (570E, Polk Parkway exit). Go approximately 6.1 miles to Exit 7 (South Florida Avenue - toll: 50 cents). Turn left onto 37N (South Florida Avenue) and go to McDonald Street. Turn right on McDonald and go seven blocks to the campus. Barnett Field is the by the second parking lot on the right.

From Palm Beach/Miami… Take Florida Turnpike north to Yeehaw Junction (Highway 60). Take Highway 60 to 98 North in Bartow, and 98 North into Lakeland. Watch for the Grove Park Shopping Plaza (on the left) and turn left at Crystal Lake Drive. Go to Lake Hollingsworth Drive, turn right and go around the lake to Ingraham Avenue. Turn rightagain, and go to stop sign (McDonald) and turn left. Parking lot will be on the left, just past Barnett Field.
