WALKING WITH PURPOSE THIS FALL AT ST. MATTHEW THE APOSTLE

Do you desire to grow in your Catholic faith? Would you like to connect with other women in our parish community? Are you searching for something more in your life? We invite you to consider joining Walking with Purpose, a women’s Catholic Bible Study, this fall at St. Matthew. Weekly group sessions are starting on Wednesday, September 11 at 9:15 a.m. or Thursday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.We are offering several study options this year! Opening Your Heart, our foundational study, is designed for a woman new to WWP, whether or not you have any Bible Study experience; you are welcome as you are to learn how the Scriptures apply to our everyday lives. Touching the Divine is a study of the Gospel of John and designed for women who have already participated in WWP and are ready for a more advanced level study as we learn how to know Christ in a deeper, more intimate way. We are also offering Beholding His Glory and Beholding Your King, which are two shorter studies. The mission of Walking with Purpose is to help every Catholic woman and girl in America to open her heart to Jesus Christ. Are you interested in learning more? Please check out our website at stmatthew.net/wwp. There you will find descriptions of each of the studies, frequently asked questions about WWP, and a registration form. If you have questions, please contact Gina Sergio at [email protected] or 614-806-4356. We hope to see you!

In order to continue our mission and ministries, we encourage all parishioners to spend time in prayer and discussion with your family, reflecting on the work we do. We look forward to seeing all of our parishioners at Mass, especially during our special Commitment Weekend, September 14-15. If you have any questions regarding the Worship + Serve + Evangelize: 60 Years of Spreading the Gospel Program, please feel free to contact the Parish Office at 614-471-0212.

The next Protecting God's Children class that St. Matthew will be hosting is Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the St. Anthony Room. As a convenience, Fast Fingerprints (a third party) will be on- site from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to do background checks before the class starts. The background checks will stop once the class starts so if you want to have your background check done that day, please plan to come early. The line can get pretty long. If you have already taken the PGC class and just need to have the fingerprinting done, please feel free to come to just the background check part. BISHOP ROBERT BARRON’S PIVOTAL PLAYERS – ST. AUGUSTINE AND ST. BENEDICT ARE

COMING TO ST. MATTHEW! (FREE EVENT!)

CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players is a multi-part series that illumines a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church, but changed the course of western civilization. This video focuses on two incredible saints from the fourth and fifth centuries: St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Benedict of Nursia.

St. Augustine, the Teacher, is possibly the best example of how faith in Christ changed a person. Augustine’s narrative of personal transformation in his book Confessions provides a template for life in Christ that still rings true today.

Many would argue that St. Benedict, the Monk, contributed more to saving western Christian culture than anyone else. Born just after Rome fell, Benedict founded the religious community that would, in time, preserve the best of the old and allow for the emergence of an authentic, Christian way of life.Join Bishop Barron as he traces the lives and contributions of these two pivotal saints.

ST. AUGUSTINE VIDEO: • Tuesday, September 3, 10:00-11:30 a.m., St. Anthony RoomST. BENEDICT VIDEO: • Tuesday, September 10, 10:30-11:30 a.m., St. Anthony Room

All viewings are free of charge. No need to register. Please bring a friend! Questions? Contact Lorraine Curtin at [email protected] or 614-946-7585.

THE MAIN EVENT – Plans are underway for the 23rd annual celebration of the Main Event, the festive and much anticipated silent auction dinner party held each fall for the benefit of St. Matthew School. This year our event will be held on Saturday, October 19 from 6:00-10:30 p.m. The proceeds from the Main Event support the goals of the St. Matthew Home and School Association and will directly benefit each student. If you are looking for a great way to support a worthy cause and get maximum exposure for your business in our community, please consider being a Main Event Sponsor! You could also give a shout-out to your family with a Mustang Sponsorship. Sponsorship levels range from $250.00 to $10,000.00 and include advertising in many of the Main Event communications. If you are interested in any of these sponsorship opportunities or donating goods, services or cash to the event, or would like additional information about attending the event, please contact Katie Ference at 614-218-1613 or [email protected]. Any and all offerings will be gratefully accepted! Thank you!

IF A FAMILY MEMBER IS SICK OR SERIOUSLY ILL, consider contacting the Parish Office at 614-471-0212 for one of the priests to administer the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist and the Anointing of the Sick. Due to HIPAA privacy laws, hospitals no longer notify church offices when parishioners are admitted. As well, in the case of serious illness, families are encouraged to contact us early allowing the priest and patient to talk about any spiritual needs they may have including receiving the Sacrament of Penance.

Romans: The Gospel of

Salvation(8 sessions)

Paul’s letter to the Romans has been at the center of reflection, conversion, and controversy from the very beginning. Romans: The Gospel of Salvation provides an authentically Catholic, comprehensive, and simple way to understand the overarching theme of Romans – salvation.Romans: The Gospel of Salvation explores the ways in which Jesus is the fulfillment of Israel’s prophecies, which leads to the universal, “Catholic” family of God.

PARISH PROJECTS

As good stewards of your generosity, the Facilities Team is pleased to provide regular updates on St. Matthew campus projects, improvements, ongoing initiatives, and enhancements. We have now completed our first full week of a regular parish schedule now that school is back in session. The Hutta cafeteria has been serving us well with 600 hot lunches every day, Latchkey after school activities and an evening parent/teacher event. Additional resources have been dedicated to church cleaning and maintenance while moving forward on beautification projects with a keen eye on the approaching 60th Anniversary celebration of our parish on Saturday, September 21.Deciding on where and how the life-size marble angels located in the Adoration Chapel will be finally placed is a high priority as we are deciding the most fitting placement of these newest additions to our parish. The objective is to maximize the impact of these angels and enhance the prayer life of our faithful. It is our hope to move the sculptures only one time. Based on the size and beauty of these lifelike angel statues, the donors and designers are discerning the option of putting them in the Church and moving the current, golden angels into the Chapel. This decision may be more aesthetically fitting since they would be more in scale with their respective spaces. This decision would also expedite the removal of the remaining baldacchino structure clearing the view of the Apse area behind the Altar. Your prayers are appreciated as all options are being considered. We appreciate this opportunity to provide these updates and welcome suggestions for facility enhancements. Please contact George Harvey at [email protected].
